Lol this was made in 2001 good old Harry Enfield comedian can't believe some think this was made in the 1930s
@foufoufun9 жыл бұрын
+Rob Watts I wasn't sure at first but it was too accurate with the current future to be made in the 1930s. Also like Crashhandburn999 said, electronic computer didn't really exist until the 50s. The term "computer" is far older though but I'm pretty sure that the term "crash" for a computer was only popularized around the 70s.

Not possible. They might have had a primitive analog computer but there were no electronic devices until the invention of the vacuum tube early in the 20th century.

Quite accurate? QUITE ACCURATE????? I live in Great Britain and I have spent an entire school year (semester) and I use Southern Railways, run by Govia Thameslink Railway, and no train, and I mean NO TRAIN, has run on time in the ENTIRE year. Quite accurate my arse!

At first, I thought this was a real dated 1937 film. But when I saw the portable Grammophones, I got the joke. Truthful as the trend is, British people in 1937 would have thought this would be completely awkward! Exposed midriffs, yes. But they will be tummies that are tight, toned, and twerked.
@resilient55577 жыл бұрын
bubblinbrownsugar616 ha go to any theme park in the summer time and you will see lots of midriffs that are not toned and definitely should NOT be exposed.

@UK3133710 жыл бұрын
The reason they're talking about 2001 and getting it so accurate is because this episode was made and aired in 2001. It's a spoof! For those who STILL don't understand: British railway privatisation happened in the 1990s and hasn't been 100% successful. The portable gramophone is poking fun at the Sony Discman and other portable CD players that were popular around the millennium. "The Enormous Turkey" is poking fun at the Millennium Dome because "turkey" is British slang for a loser or something completely useless/pointless. "Jollity" is obviously Ecstacy.

Another joke is that the railways weren't nationalised until 1948 and this spoof is set in 1937 when there were separate rail companies, just like after the privatisation of 1994-97.

***** It's true, it was too expensive to go to the Moon so they went to Mars instead. That's why all the photo's and TV transmissions were in black and white. No-one suspected a thing! The laser reflectors at the "landing sites" were actually set up by Werner von Braun's contacts at the Nazi Moon Base.

In November 1998 a survey found that 73% of people said that they were not planning to celebrate anything more than a normal new year's day on 1st January 2000 ... most of the remaining 27% were Catholics - for them the year 2000 was a Jubilee Year, the last year of the 2nd Millennium. On January 1st 2000 huge celebrations occurred throughout the world with most people believing it was the first day of the 3rd Millennium, the first day of the 21st century.

I am a fan of a lot of things American,they do a lot of things brilliantly.But they do not do satire and irony anywhere near as good as the British.I know comedy is subjective,and I may be biased being Irish,but I find the British comedies to be a lot funnier than most American ones.There are exceptions of course,but on the whole the British do comedy better.I think it is because we don't really mind laughing at ourselves and our peculiar ways. Saying all that,one of my favourite comedies of all time is Curb your enthusiasm.

The reason why US "invented" most things was because inventors, many of them immigrants or children of immigrants, were allowed the benefits from their ideas.A good example was the Frenchman that perfected photographic techniques in 1800's.Concept was appropriated by French government and inventor merely given a pension by the French government.In US, a person could become very wealthy from patent or selling patent.This important fact overlooked by both sides in this debate.

Electronic computers - The Brits- a man called Tommy Flowers a GPO Engineer in 1943.

nope. One of the earliest examples of what we might call satire, The Satire of the Trades, is in Egyptian writing from the beginning of the 2nd millennium BC. The text's apparent readers are students, tired of studying. It argues that their lot as scribes is useful, and their lot far superior to that of the ordinary man. Scholars such as Helck think that the context was meant to be serious.
@ChuddleBuggy12 жыл бұрын
@rhn94 That's what I thought at first. But thinking about it makes me realize that the actors aren't contemporary, and if they are, they are relatively unknown considering their acting ability. Furthermore, no professional outfit would spend money on the creation of this film without marketing it out, and yet it is inarguably too well made to be of amateur origin. Granted these actors aren't identifiable from theatrical history as well but until it is proven otherwise, I'd stick with authentic.
