I’m sure all ports and shipping companies are different but concerning the crews not being allowed off the ship while being loaded/unloaded allow me to add this. I’ve always wondered about that very thing. I was in Charleston SC a year ago and had a conversation with a Homeland Security Officer about that. Paraphrasing but he said ‘ yes they can leave the ship as we cleared the crew long before the ship arrived’. He added that it is a great perk for the crew. I’m sure the rules vary.. Cool video!

I have worked in the Port of Oakland (many years) and have seen some of these massive ships come and go...24/7. I would like to know how they keep track of so many containers going to so many ports...loading and unloading. These ships do not unload every container nor load every container the ship can carry at any given port.
@redshift8302 Жыл бұрын
RFID I would guess.
@woeter2968 Жыл бұрын
Loading plans and discharge plans for each port are drawn up onshore and sent to the vessel for checkup, prior to the discharge/loading Each container has it's unique ID number for life(container Identification number). This gives info on the owner, ID number, size and a lot more. On the plans they use this number and Port codes which is or can be attached to the discharge plan. Loading/discharging needs to be planned as else the vessel might be damaged due to bending/shear forces. Also special locations are needed ashore and on board for dangerous goods, reefers, open top container, over-width etc.. So from the spot at the loading port to the location onboard to the spot on the quay in the discharge port is all in computer and based on the container ID. Hope this might help you. It takes a lot of departments to make up the plan and the final checkup on board by the Chief Officer and Captain's responsibility.
