A bae choice comment: I actually disagree that Chloe is meant to die. Instead, the point of the game is that you can't save everyone. Sometimes saving just one person is all you can do. Let us consider the storm and Max's powers. While the common opinion is that Max caused the storm, Max first saw the Storm before seeing Chloe die and before her powers manifested. Further, in the timelines in which Chloe is killed outside of the bathroom, the Storm still hits. This is suggestive then that the Storm is going to hit Arcadia Bay no matter what. When Max won the Everyday Hero contest, the Storm hits Arcadia Bay nine days after it hit in other timelines. While some might like to claim that the Storm hits because Max used her time travel abilities, the fact is this: Max uses her time travel abilities in the Sacrifice Chloe ending. She remembers fully what happened. She went through a picture and then emerges on the other side to a sunny funeral... and full memory of what happened. But since she traveled through time, if her powers caused the Storm Arcadia Bay will still be destroyed... and Chloe will be dead as well. Max attempts to be a hero and save nearly everyone... and will end up saving no one. Correlation is now the same thing as causation. Max is having flash-forwards of the Storm. She is not causing it however. Indeed, for all we know, the Storm may be causing Max's abilities. She may think it's because of Chloe as was said in Chapter Five but recall: the Storm was seen in her first vision before Chloe appeared. And the people who claim Max caused the Storm (either Max herself or Warren) are not scientists. They are high school students and are working off of time travel tropes from science fiction. They are making assumptions that cannot be verified. As for Chloe herself... Chloe suffers from self-destructive behaviors and may be borderline suicidal. Her offer to die for Arcadia Bay is born of guilt. She does not want her mother to die. She has had an adversarial relationship with her mother and her stepfather and this Storm is going to make it so she cannot make amends. So if she dies? She doesn't suffer that guilt. Her offer to die is ultimately selfish. Now, consider Max herself. The further into the series we go, the more we see Max doubling down on her decision: Chloe must live. Even as Chloe argues on letting her die, Max is saying Chloe is her number one priority. So would Max save a town of people she barely knows? There's two people in Arcadia Bay that she has a connection with: Chloe, and Joyce. The rest of the students? Are people who has known for slightly over one month... and will likely not see again after she graduates from high school. Literally this is "would you sacrifice your best friend for a town of strangers?" If you are an 18-year-old girl who is growing increasingly traumatized after being abused and all-but-molested and who has one person she can confide in, one person she can trust, one person she may even be in love with? No. You don't let your friend's guilt keep you from ripping up that photograph. You let that town die and you feel horrible guilt over it... but I think Max finally realized the truth: you can't save everyone. So save the ones you can and accept you're not a superhero. Accept you're ordinary. That is why Chloe lives.

Ahhhhh if you sacrifice Chloe its just so bad no matter how morally correct. I mean, Chloe dies bitter and sad and feeling abandoned on a dirty bathroom floor without knowing Max loves her or that she loves Max and she never even finds out what happened to Rachel, and Max has all of this bottled up inside and had to be in the room and NOT stop the one she loves being killed and has to live with all of that inside her head forever now. HOWEVER, if you sacrifice Arcadia bay, Chloe has to live with being the reason a town was not saved from death and Max has to live with all of those deaths on her shoulders.

+Shauna Stevens im pretty sure that most the people in arcadia bay had the common sense to leave if they were physically and mentally able. people that definitley die are victoria, nathan, Joyce, warren, random dude in diner, Truss Limbow, frank and his dog. im undecided on david, jefferson and kate. while it sucks that they have to die, the ones that max cares the most for also care about her and chloe. if they knew that their sacrifice would let chloe live, theres no way theyd hold it against max for making that choice. especially if they knew about everything the girls went through together. also comforting to know that max and chloe leave arcadia bay to start a new life together. while they will have to live with their past decision, they also have each other to support and love one another. they might also have $5k dollars if you were so inclined to let them steal it... :Pi hope some of this lifts some weight off the shoulders of anyone guilt ridden about sacrificing arcadia bay. just trying to put an optimistic twist to lighten things.

i saved Chloe. First of all this is a love story. Call it romance, or friendship, it doesn't matter they do love each other and Max goes thru hell to save her, it's certainly not to let her go in the end. It's also a story about loss, Max tries avoid ALL losses until she realizes you have to accept some of it. There is the point I really agree with you, those people have a choice, they have a chance: my sacrifying Arcadia you say: you will make it or not we all have to face it, shit happens, but it's not up to me. and Chloe had enough. Also for Max, why living on if it's to be without her friend / GF (clearly leaning towards GF i believe).

But with Chloe just dying like that never knowing what happened to Rachel is finally being with Max again after 5 yrs just leaves you feeling empty and sad. At least in the other ending her and Max are together, alive. Despite that ending being sad as well its more happier knowing all your efforts weren't in vain when saving Chloe.

it's clearly implied that Max has close to zero interest in boys, loves Chloe very very much (friendship clearly have some form of strong romance taking shape), and Chloe is without a doubt gay or bi (i'd say gay but still figuring herself out), and the only person she loved before was already a girl. So even in the end where they don't kiss...i think it's pretty clear the direction this is taking. The kiss on the sad ending is more to add drama.

I think the reason that max getting power is for getting chloe's love back. Chloe is lost everything and hating everything till wishing bomb on archadia bay. So max's purpose is to make chloe getting love again. Finally chloe is become very caring and selfless to agree sacrifice herself for archadia bay. Or probably it is original from rachel and then get bonding and partly know about max too, but since she meant to die before gaining chloe's love back, she send to max as her legacy. So rachel's role is filling chloe with love and max is her legacy for finishing touches.

I always like to think that choosing to sacrifice arcadia bay is just sacrificing the a ghost town, i mean, come on, people with actual sense could see that freaking huge tornado, obviously they would bail for their lives when they could, i like to think there would be less casualties after the storm and all important people including Chloe's mom and david has been safe from harm. And in the ending of sacrificing arcadia bay, it would just be chloe and max driving off to go to where chloe's mom and david were staying after the storm. 😄

The only thing here thats left untold is that most ppl wont stay in an open area with a bloody huge tornado coming your way :'D most likely, most of the townspeople survived, since lets face it: tornados are not uncommon in the US. (Especially Florida XD although the game is placed somewhere along the coast of Oregon). So it makes sense to chose Chloe. If people are stupid enough to stay in the way of a tornado... ^^; Plus, I'd want to save Chloe in the end, after all the crap both of them went through to realise they love eachother :) I dont think its a "bad" ending. Although it has its consequences, like everything in the game.

I don't even think I can possibly agree more. There's taking into account Joyce as well. No way in hell would she want to live if it meant her own daughter (whom she loves very much) would die on top of not having her husband William around. That kind of grief would make ANY parent distraught. I picked Chloe thinking about Joyce as well, and most people don't think about that. She'd be proud that Chloe has someone on her side she trust to look out for her. What I am is a _human,_ not a hero. If that were _my_ best friend vs. the whole world, I'm not going to be noble for the greater good. And I'm not ashamed to admit that. In the same vein that a true parent would never sacrifice their child for a bunch of strangers, a true best friend would never sacrifice their best friend for a bunch of strangers. And just like one of my own characters said to his best friend, _"Real talk, buddy, but if it were you vs cheese cake, I'm choosing that cheese cake, no shame. But if it were you vs the whole world, and I had to choose one or the other? It's going to be you, every single time."_

i agree 100%. max continuously goes through hell and back for chloe, and nothing ever stopped her because she would always choose her. she proves this with how much psychological torture she endures just for chloe, and even when faced with her dream come true she'll trade her aspirations if it meant chloe would be alive and well. the sacrifice arcadia bay ending is absolute affirmation of this - nothing else is important to max but chloe, who left a bigger impact on her in under a week over the entire town's insignificance in the time she was at blackwell. that ending is max prioritising her and chloe's happiness and future, but at the cost of the universe's objection and most resonates with the developed max after her powers - more assertive and confident, scared nonetheless but brave enough to face anything with chloe as they'd done throughout the game. the sacrifice chloe ending is more like the defeated timid max from the beginning, tentative and self-depreciating. max is a good person, but lets people step all over her, and this ending shows that she would rather her desires to come second for the greater good - the moral choice. its truly the saddest too bcos this max wud rather endure the emotional turmoil of her choice alone. even sadder when u consider that spanish sahara is about deep trauma that will never go away ...

Every episode, she's doubting herself a little less, gains a little more security and confidence within herself, her talents, her capabilities. And having Chloe by herself gives her a sense of balance, she feels like _Max,_ and not just like some lonely loser like she most likely told herself she was when she was in Seattle. And I'm sorry, but when you make a promise to someone where you tell them with assurance on their behalf that you will never abandon them, especially when it's your BEST FRIEND in the world in particular? You KEEP that promise, whatever the cost, even if it means sacrificing a dying town of people. I couldn't keep that on my conscious, not keeping a promise that I said I wouldn't break. Max wouldn't dare break that deal, it would be so out of character to me. Saving Chloe is my canon. She's the missing part of Max she ultimately found, and needed in her life, and vice versa.

@@princessgotchi Max moved, and came back, walking on the same soil as her best friend she hadn't made a move to see a month after settling _five_ years after being split apart. They were _bound_ to reunite, no matter the context. Maybe Max getting powers and her _just so happening_ to save Chloe's life was through really crazy luck, or maybe it really was fate or destiny, but the way I see it? It doesn't matter. She got them, she saved Chloe, she made it her responsibility to use them for Chloe's sake, be it to guide her and protect her. Rachel may have been Chloe's angel in her eyes, but Max is Chloe's _guardian angel,_ and that carries far more significance to me (I feel Rachel was ultimately gonna be Chloe's downfall, but Max is really the only real anchor she can count on, and that's why I said fuck it and let that twister kill Arcadia Bay). You cannot have Max without Chloe. You cannot have Chloe without Max. They only bring out the best in each other, and they can't do that if one loses the other. Suffice it to say, if fate told me I had to sacrifice _my_ bestie, I'd tell it "You're gonna have to fucking bury me with them then", especially if I had a promise to dedicate myself to them on the line to keep.

2019 and still re-watching this because why not? It's a blessing and a curse to have that power. Every action really has a consequence no matter what decision we made. There's always a bad and good you just gotta go along with it. I feel bad and sad that these two characters has to go through a lot to be in what they are now. If Max sacrifices chloe, that ending is not so close to reality knowing that you've seen those and reuniting with your best friend in a funeral? I can't imagine all the feels that Max has to endure just to justify what they said is really meant to be. Max will only experience what chloe had gone through when her father died. Really sad , she's like a stranger to chloe after 5 years not being in touch with her. She only knew rachel not the present Maxine Caulfield.

i belive that when chloe goes to heaven (sorry, i do believe i heaven i know people don't really like religion theses days, i have no problem with atheists) she will remember EVERYTHING that her and max done. other wise, she dies, on a floor without ever knowing 18 year old max. when they meet again, if you sacrificed chloe, chloe will know, remember, and have all the feelings and memories or her and max's adventures. this is such a sad "game", but the character development and storyline is just PRIME. i have one major problem with the game, though... I cried over it but there was no way I could sacrifice a whole town to rescue Chloe. I rescued Kate, showed Victoria that one doesn't have to be mean to go up in the world. Chloe was on a head-on collision with death. After sacrificing everybody she would force Max to use her powers again and destroy the next town full of people. After all the timeline wasn't restored and I was pretty sure Max hadn't lost her powers because of that. By sacrificing Chloe, Max would have become an "Every day's hero" by winning the contest and her life would finally take a lift the "normal" way. I really cried over sacrificing Chloe, because she didn't deserve that, but she was a loose cannon on epic scale, destined to be the cause of destroying town after town.

My god after 2 1/2 or so years this game still wrecks me. The ending is still a massive lose/lose but always Bae over Bay a 1000 times out of 1000 for me. I think we really need a sequel that continues the story of Max and Chloe where they throw us a bone and a few people managed to live and they spend the game trying to figure out a way to go back and save Rachel and the town while keeping Chloe alive, or give us another hard decision but actually make it where there is an actual GOOD ending to go with the heartbreaking bad one rather than 2 heartbreaking ones. I really don't think if they make another game that if it doesn't have Max and Chloe in it that its really going to be the same Life is Strange. New location and some new characters? Absolutely. But completely redoing everything would make it a completely new game altogether and it would honestly cease to be or feel like Life is Strange anymore. The developers have shown they have massive talent for making a game like this....Just gotta keep Max and Chloe in some form and work on their endings and we'll be doing hella good.

Fuck me man playing this very game came close to literally tearing me apart even when i used the time power for good at most times and play the good heroic Paragon route it had still found a way to make me feel like a huge dick and deeply regretful sure i saved a freind at the cost of many despite on one hand the entire city felt it was going to shit anyway and the fact that time nado had only hit that area i still felt bummed out but satisfied this game generally put these girls through hell the world was not really kind to them and felt if they couldn't have their city they still had each other now i just don't know i might replay again soon just not yet
