If you wanna tell a new story then don't bring back your fan favorite character as the protagonist and just delete the past. We did not need Max for the story, it's a new power and the game has no ties to Arcadia Bay storywise except for Max. If you wanna be faithful to what came before you then really tell a story that builds up on it. Having Chloe and Max still be working on their mental struggles and maybe a new timeline where Rachel lives and you have to safe her this time, but only Max can interact with her because Chloe died in that timeline. I can't believe a fan game pick stuff like this up and not the real sequel.

I feel like this game would have ultimately been more respectful of the game it's continuing off of if they just stuck to it continuing from the Sacrifice Chloe ending. Both endings lead Max to the same place and the differences so far in the first two chapters feel superficial. We had our continuation of the Sacrifice Bay ending in the comics, if anything it would have made for a good promotion of the comics. When you promise respect for both endings (when it's really respect for one and acknowledgement of the other's existence) and that Chloe will appear if she's alive and you deliver on neither? If anything, I think promising Chloe will make an appearance when she doesn't even have a character model for a flashback or anything feels spiteful and unprofessional, regardless of if you ship Pricefield or just enjoy Chloe's character it's a disrespect to long-time fans and the original story and creators. Also from what I've gathered from spoilers, people came up with WAY better plot points in their theory crafting than what actually happens. So, in general, the writing sounds weak whether you like Chloe or not. I wish they had just made a new protagonist and had Max as a background character, would have saved so many fans from feeling betrayed and mislead with Max in the spotlight again.

Chapters 1-3 were great, 8/10. The pacing of chapter 1 specifically and the feelings of grief were damn near perfect. Chapter 4 started to lose me and then 5 was just so drawn out with pretty much no character moments that were earned. The dialogue may have gotten a boost, but the relationships didn't work NEARLY as well. Overall 6/10, and I'm not looking forward to where they're taking this franchise.

I just saw the whole game and I can tell this isn’t Life is Strange anymore. I’m so sad and disappointed what they made out of it. They should have listened to Dontnod. The old games have a special place in my heart and I can’t watch/play any further LiS games. I wasn’t even a fan of true colors, LiS 2 still got me and I liked the vision of new characters and new storytelling, but THIS LiS game is just heartbreaking for a big fan like me.

I say that as a borderline who freed myself from so much toxic bs. Chloe needed serious mental health help and she was dealt a bad hand. But let’s call it what it is; she was manipulative, she gaslit Max and Rachel gaslit her. She passed that behaviour to Chloe who was already struggling and toxic to a degree because of her not dealing with her trauma in a healthy way, and she gaslit and manipulated Max, was awful to her mother, showed a complete lack of remorse towards Kate until the most serious thing happened, and provoked a mentally unstable rich kid. Did she deserve what happened to her? No but was she a bastion of morality? Also, no.

And sometimes, you do need to find a reviewer you trust and share a similar taste with, weigh the pros and cons, watch their review, maybe watch a little gameplay to decide if you wanna purchase. Cuz like, games are expensive. 60$ is a big investment to many of us. A lot of us dont have the luxury of having 60$ to spend on a whim on a game we are uncertain about. We have to watch reviews to determine if its worth the money or just pirate it. Its not the same as not having an opinion. And its totally valid to not want to spend 60$ on a game you dont even know will be worth it, and using outside reviews to determine that.

I won't get it and here's why: (Spoiler) . . . . . . The fact that Chloe won't be in the game is beyond awful to me as someone who played the first game and sacrificed whole Arcadia Bay for the sake of Chloe and Max being together. And I've seen people that said "oh how do you even want to make a sequel with such a choice?" Well look at Games like Mass Effect, where crew mates can die if you're not careful enough and it can have an impact on the next games, because you transfer your save file. To me, as a Max and Chloe fan, it's a punch in the face and I'm not getting the new game. But trust me on this one, they will bring her back in the next game, they see the people complain and they want to make money on that... Which is a smart move ngl, but I'm not falling for that. The series (at least the Max one) is done for me. I will just create Max and Chloe in Sims, where they can now live happily lol :D

I liked (not loved) the game but what they did to Pricefield really soured the experience for me. I'd prefer they hadn't made this game at all over seeing Chloe and Max being done made canon regardless of what you chose in the first game. Why ruin something a lot of people cared about? They could have made them be temporarily long distance, seems they wanted to get rid of Chloe and open up new romance options. My Max remained single.

I think one thing to note is that the 88 doesn’t really attempt to put the game in context with the other games while the 50 seems to think they changed the characters too much. Also, both reviews mentioned a lot of twists in the story. It’s just that one reviewer liked that and the other didn’t. Being as the 88 didn’t really mention the other games in the franchise it may not be someone with a particular attachment to the series

I watched E;R play the early access for it. Seems like more of the exact same kind of thing the previous games delivered. I regretted purchasing the first one (the only good part of it was the Kate Marsh subplot & its incredible resolution) so I'm not exactly invested. But the sequel that I dread will be squandered is Dragon Age Dreadwo-I mean Veilguard....not holding out hope for that one either.

I don't think any of us who are actually this invested in the life is strange (especially max's story) franchise will ever be happy. opinions on everything are simply too polarising. as someone who chose to save chloe in LiS 1, I chose to save arcadia Bay in the beginning of DE because it felt more suited to this story that they seem to want to tell, and because I would like to minimise the inevitable disappointment by just letting the game take me on the journey it wants to take me on edit: typo

That's the thing, they clearly liked one ending over the other and so put more care into it. The problem is on them for saying they'll "respect both endings" and giving the player the option to choose what ending they want. They could have written them breaking up well and understanding why they did, but it's so vague that it comes across as sweeping the event under the rug to move on to this game's story. For me I can still play this game and realize it has an interesting idea and I want to see where it goes (and see if the leaks are true), doesn't help the feeling I get that if you chose the wrong option by the devs you are punished for it with bad lore between the two games

The majority of complaints I've seen is the treatment of Chloe and Max's relationship where it's either she died at Arcadia (which everyone already assumed) or they broke up (which is actually highly possible since they were dating since 18 at the time and people grow apart over time). If that's the only issue with this game it doesn't break it for me. I genuinely was not even that invested in the Chloe romance in the first game, it was the overall story that I liked. Tbh Chloe is one of those toxic girls with baggage who you'd want to avoid dating seriously anyway 😂

It is actually the bugs and some of the gameplay more than the story that is causing the lower scores. Shacknews gave it a 70, but loved the game, it was the technical issues that brought the score down.

Yeah any review that talked about gameplay, at least those specific moments I just completely skipped. Like time travel is very cool and how they use it in 1 is excellent, but there is next to no gameplay in LIS and that's totally cool. It's not the point of the franchise. Same here. In Episodes 1 and 2 the mechanics and puzzles are actually cool, but the game doesn't live or die based off that at all.

The first game became a classic despite its scores, and I really think they completely missed the point of LIS 2. That could happen here as well, at least the lower reviews. The more positive reviews also seem to be better written. I think the worst reviews are trashy, even dishonest. The game does have some story issues but it gets the most important things right. And I believe a lot of the fanbase does not get what this series is about.

Because of leaks, while they probably wasn't supposed to, copies have been out in the world for awhile, not to mention with the 2 week early access, they actually let you download the whole game, the files are there, just some code blocking it, my buddy just put the files into his nerd programming skills to run the full game the first day of early release XD, he even let me restart it and play it so I spent a weekend at his place playing it, even though we're grown men XD
