I just discovered your awesome channel 😀 I live in downtown Ottawa and for the past 8 days have had 2 beautiful bluejays flying to my deck and I've started leaving peanuts out for them. In the morning they do this curious warbling call, like a combination of a squeaky gate and a babbling brook, and even when I set the peanuts down, they still sit there and look at me in a curious way. Bluejays are so magical, and I love the fact that their colors are from the sunlight.

Wonderful story. Thanks for all the hard work putting them together. When I was a kid we raised a few orphaned blue jays. They are such sweet birds. One other way to tell the young fledglings is that the corners of their mouths is yellow.

Beautiful shots and a nice chronicle! I really like the extra tidbits too - quite a variety of critters (it's been a while since I've bumped into a bull moose but they make me a bit uneasy too!) There must have been 100 blue jays that I saw along a road today, maybe picking up grasshoppers (?) Never saw that before... Thank you for posting and have a great week!

I love your videos & observations! I live in rural Maryland & struggle to keep 3 big bird feeders full. Like you, we have lots of blue jays, cardinals, red bellies (woodpeckers), downies, nuthatches, chickadees, juncos, goldfinches, etc. I don't know nearly as much as you do about our birds, but I sure love watching them! Thank you for your wonderful videos!

I had a bad day at work, dealing with too many disabled people desperate for help who shouldn’t be if we had a fair society here in the U.K. As usual due to my own health condition I’ve come straight to bed and watched this video. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I genuinely mean that, you’ve turned my day around. I also think you are an amazing person who truly does bird "watch". If only the world had more people like you. Your videography is getting better all the time, and your narrative is superb. You got some incredibly sharp shots and great depth of field. I need to catch up on some of your videos, but I always enjoy them when I do.

Your footage is amazing. Your narrative fills in the blanks on much of the behavior I've been witnessing from the Jays by me. I know a lot of people don't like Bluejays because they say they don't "play nice" with other birds by feeders. I have not seen that, as a matter of fact, I've noticed other birds depending on them and their warning system of predators in the vicinity. They're fascinating to observe.

Thank you for another terrific video, Lesley! I live in an oak forest and have a platform feeder, so I get a lot of blue jays. For the last two years (since I got the platform feeder) I have had all the surrounding jays bring their offspring to my feeder. I have had a huge number of jays coming to my feeders all through the spring and summer. So many that I was going through a suet cake a day and several scoops of peanuts for the platform. : 0 ! Starting in mid-September the group began to get smaller and smaller. (The same thing happened last year.) At this point, I have a couple of blue jays coming to my feeder, and that's it! Crazy. I think some must migrate and others are busy harvesting acorns. But oh what a difference a few weeks has made. It's so quiet now. I agree with you about the fragility of life for young jays. I have observed that they get sick more easily than their elders. I suppose they have more fragile immune systems. They also lack the life experience to avoid dangers. I do love the young jays dearly, though. They are so fun to observe!

I just love your videos! And I share your love for Blue Jays. Where I live I have a perfect view of all the birds in the woods behind me from my backyard screened in porch which is covered on the outside with bird feeders holding a variety of seeds for different kinds of birds. Nice documentary. I have many blue jays at my place, but have never seen any as young as that. They're adorable.True about July evenings. Funny you should mention a moose. I've been living/working on the property I'm currently living on, for 12 years, and this was the first year we ever had a moose coming through the property. Juvenile, I believe, and going through a molt. It was frightening because, it popped out of nowhere, and charged through the end of the property, where there's a lake, and swam away.

I really love them but boy they scream outside until I feed them and neighbors probably get upset. Anyway I love your videos and all the hard work you put into all the special creatures outside. Also because of you I got a great camera so i can try taking good pictures but also to try to tell who is who but sometimes i can get 10 + bluejays that I find it really hard and they don't stay still for long...lol anyway thank you for the amazing work you do. Am enjoying your videos sooo much : > Raised in the country, but now old, disabled, disgruntled and in a city. So glad I have #1=squirrels, #2=blue jays, #3=mocking birds and #4=cardinals occasionally. The crows won't come near. They like the fancy bird bath a lady has in her back patio half a block away. The lady screams at the crows if she sees them, which the crows find infinitely more entertaining. Love that you can do actual events in the birds lives and other creatures of the world. I prefer creature friends as where I live the time passers of residents is, gossip, cards of various games, bingo and more gossip. Will keep watching in hopes of gaining the knowledge of times of year for nesting, molting etc. . Thank you and will look forward to seeing more : )

I want to start knowing the birds around my house. I used to have ducks, but I believe they eventually flew off. There are some buzzards that gather on top of a tall tree here. Now, when I throw scraps outside, a few will notice, and next thing you know I have buzzards all over the place. There's also an owl that lives in the forest near my house and a hawk which often flies around my house.

I really enjoy your videos. The quality is tv-show worthy. But I really enjoy your personal stories and knowledge. I have my own group of Jays here. I call them my roosters because they wake me up in the morning with their squawking for peanuts. I have only myself to blame for that. But I love them. I enjoy listening to their language from the very loud squawks that travel for blocks to what I call "mumbling". Today I even heard one make a sound I had never heard before. I'll be paying close attention to hear it again.

This is quite a bit off-topic but has anyone heard that birds of color show up after the passing of a loved one? It happened to me a few years back. Three Jays were part of the ensemble.
