I like that the narrator reminded us that hunters are the greatest conservationists. Nobody really understands what would happen if animals like elk, caribou, whitetail deer and more animals became overpopulated... overpopulation can lead to a great number, a genocidal number of animals dying off. Maybe it's inactive scent glands - so not without scent completely; just without as much.

Alberg I know what rut means. also you’re wrong. leaving the wild unattended would be alright if we hadn’t made the past mistake of killing of most the elk/deer’s natural predators. if they are not hunted then they will overpopulate due to having no natural predators
@chuckclare43065 жыл бұрын
Alberg I wasn’t suggesting a solution. They’re really is no need for a solution because hunting control their population well enough to keep the species thriving. It also provides opportunities for humans to become closer to nature and how to respect the kill. Hunting also can provide someone with a food source (though it would be cheaper to buy meat) and it is so much fun to be in the woods and experience nature. Hunting is not humans taking advantage of nature and game, hunting is humans embracing and become one with it. We are being another part of the ecosystem and enjoying nature in a way no one else can experience. Now tell me, is hunting really ruining elk populations or is it just you complaining because you think it’s mean.
@chuckclare43065 жыл бұрын
Alberg the only thing wrong with their habitats is the lack of predation. The only solution to that is to replace the predators. Humans replace wolves and bears that were chased out of that area long ago. The humans are the predators now. Their is no way to get the predators back, other than to ship them in like cargo. It can’t happen, even if the predators are protected and we are allowing them to thrive. There is no way the elk will have a natural predator (maybe in the future) in soon enough time to control there population and keep them from over populating
@chuckclare43065 жыл бұрын
Alberg I’m making the assumption you don’t hunt. That means you don’t spend hundreds a year on licenses and tags. All that money I spend goes towards wildlife conservation because I am paying that money to the state. Now since you don’t hunt, what money do you contribute to wildlife conservation. I don’t see you pitching in any money, building forests, or keeping wildlife at bay. Lead by example
@chuckclare43065 жыл бұрын
Alberg So if this loving of predators is possible it would cost way more in whatever is necessary to move them than it would be to have people pay the state to be predators. It is unrealistic to ask a government to pay thousands to move predators when they can be given money for conservation and have a natural predator through hunting

Even for Rocky Mountain elk the weights given are not representative of some actuals. I harvested a cow in CO that had a hanging weight of 582lbs, so it was over 200 lbs heavier on the hoof than the max stated in the video.

@@richardsmith6610 What do you think the average CO cow and bull would be? I'm in NM and is it similar here I wonder. Interesting stories and relevant input!
@richardsmith66104 жыл бұрын
@@nmarbletoe8210 In my experience average Rocky Mountian branch bulls would be in the range of 500-600lbs, and average mature cows in the range of 350-450 (live weight). The cow I mentioned in my post was a little heavier than my largest 6x bull, so it was a rare example of an exceptionally huge mature lead cow (took 6 loads to pack it out solo).
