I’ve worked on the pipeline since 2008 and it’s a great job with great pay BUT!!!…. You will miss birthdays, anniversaries and holidays but if you have a strong faith based marriage it’s a pretty good gig.

Yes you will miss half of a normal life with family. I started up there in 1979. We stayed in camps with the bathrooms down the hall. We only had one moral phone in our camp that was limited to calls of 10 minutes. . I was a well logging tech in the 80s and in the 90s I started working in communications doing remote communications for exploration wells. I worked the pipeline doing communications for 15 years ending in 2013. I’ll never go back. The money isn’t what is used to be. In the 80s it was easy to make 70-80 grand a year which with inflation that is the equivalent of $200 grand today.

My boyfriend currently works at Red Dog mine and has been on a 4x2 schedule. We have a 3 year old and it’s so so hard for her when he leaves. Momma works from home and daddy goes away to work. It is rough saying goodbye so often and for so long but we appreciate all he does for us and huge respect for all the guys that work in the mines and oil fields, it’s not a glamorous job but so thankful they do it❤️

Started on a rig when 17 years old I was with neighbors drilling in north Dakota here recently. Hauled oil the last 4 years. The oil fields were good to me. Even driving truck I did 3 weeks with one off flew back to georgia and did it again. With rigs I did one on and one off. I'm 62 and still working.

Yes, take us shopping at the store! The MickeyD's cost comparisons were fun :) And, that sounds like some great pay, yet not sure how the living conditions would affect the psyche for the long haul. Safe travels, and good luck with the try-outs.

When we walked into the store in Prudhoe Bay the first thing we saw on the shelves were hammers that were made in a factory 7 miles from our home which is about 4000 miles from there. We also met a young man who arrived on his motorcycle. He had just completed a trip from the southern tip of South America.

Enjoyed your vlog. Don't listen to all the silly/hurtful comments. You are a great family. People just love to try to create drama. It's like they have to make every KZbin family channel a reality TV drama or something. How can they really know what your dynamic is like? You only post the highlights etc... Keep up the good work! 👍

I lived in North Pole a number of years ago working at Wainwright. Knew Burts parents. They your siblings and your parents business partners were my lifeline during a very, very rough time. I live in north central Kansas. I would go outside for a little fresh air with no coat for a few minutes when the temp would be 30 - 40 below. Others would chastise me for that action. Keep in mind the stay was only @ 5 min. My answer was yes, it’s cold but there is no wind! I am used to wind chills of 60 - 100 below so this is not that bad.

Please tell me of your experiences at the Aurora staying there! I enjoyed my time as a baker and later breakfast cook. We didn’t get to stay in the hotel itself, but in that train-shaped building next door. My first tour there was 3 weeks and I had all the cold weather gear except a face shield. Big mistake when it’s -50 and a -80 wind chill! And in the middle of summer one day, it was 3:00 in the morning and sun up in the sky, very fascinating! And a month before, it was 1 in the morning, daylight, and snowing. Have you been to any of the radar sites in Alaska? The last one I went to was Barrow, which was my favorite and the least remote. I worked for them afterwards and in 2014 got hired in the civil service on Elmendorf as a cook where I worked before retiring from the Air Force and been there since. I love watching all your adventures! Keep them coming!

I was stationed in Alaska for about 5-6 years back in the very early 70's. Loved it and did not want to leave but the wife hated it, so, naturally we left.😁 The pipeline was in progress at that time and a good friend worked there for 2 years. Made great money but the work schedule was grueling. Looking forward to seeing some of the changes that have taken place since 1976.
