Ern, get a mini-split air conditioner installed in that garage, man! They don't take much in the way of electricity (odds are any increase to your electric bill will be lost in the noise), they're quiet, and they work very well! For reference, I don't live in Phoenix, but I do live in a desert area that can run between 105 and 115 in the summer time, and my Mitsubishi mini-split handles that without issues.

Reserve life does vary based on in-base or commute, major airline or regional, individual company policy and of course how energetic one is to pick up trips. It’s all about choice. 👍

Every time in the west Im always amazed at the sunrise times out there. Its 530AM and the sun is like up, up! That's crazy to me on the west side of EST w like 645am summer sunrises.

Nice video... can you talk about more about your personal experience like, what age did you started working for the airlines, I think it’s important specially for people like me looking into career changes midlife. I like your channel.
@FlyingwithBigErn4 жыл бұрын
Hi Airplanegeek! You bet, I'm working that into one of my upcoming videos. BLUF: I was an Air Force guy and was hired at the airline in 2011 at the age of 36. Hired on my birthday actually😄! It's been a great career but not without its ups and downs. The quote "Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life" pretty much sums up my experience at the airlines. Hope that helps! Cheers!

FlyingwithBigErn thank you very much for sharing your experience, looking forward to that video... I’m Currently 34 major airline mechanic looking to move into the flight deck in the future. Just got my CFI rating and will keep pursuing my dream. Hopefully I’m not too late. I’m glad I discovered your channel.

Just found your channel, and subscribed. Your info is great for those aspiring pilots! Hey slated to separate from AD in about a year and live roughly 1:45 from BWI..I’m not sure how far you are from PHX but sitting on reserve; is that distance feasible with a 2hr call out??? Again keep this up! It’s great stuff!
@FlyingwithBigErn3 жыл бұрын
Appreciate that Todd! It’s a 2 hour callout for us. We have guys that live up north and drive that amount of time to the airport. Very doable. Cheers!

How frequently do you fly GA to keep your hand flying skills sharp while you are flying your regular gig with SW?

Wait a minute... you have two garages?
@PlanetaryNukeFS14 жыл бұрын
They are usually commonplace in higher level neighborhoods. A gated community right next to mine has quite a lot of houses with multiple garages.

There is No Way I could get up that early in the morning to work out. And where are the cars in that hot climate?
@FlyingwithBigErn4 жыл бұрын
Ha! Yeah it's pretty rough in the summer. The early morning workouts do help...a little😆 . I park the cars in the other garage, lucky that my wife allowed the sacrifice of one garage for the gym.😬

It’s the Rogue monster lite folding rack. Truth be told we’ve never folded it😁. Should have bought the regular rig🤔. Cheers!
