Great pay and I really hope you are truely happy. For me, having a job that pays $30 an hour and working 40 hours a week and then come home and seeing my 4 healthy kids everyday and eating together home cooked meals prepared by my wife and spending all the time with 5 of them maybe is not a typical American dream but I AM LIVING A DREAM.

@@pilot41186you should be mad at the generation before you who sold the pilot world out by introducing scope clauses for a slight pay bump. Because back in the old days, you could get hired at a major airline with 250 hours and a commercial multi.

@@pilot41186 if that was meant as a criticism, id like you to see yourself taking an average 400 souls on an average $260,000,000 chuck of metal at close to 1000 km/h. anything can happen and you’re responsible solely. unlike other jobs where some bloat people even manage to do absolutely nothing and make a living. i’m an aspiring pilot, and don’t mean criticism to any job. we all run the world together.

@@daddymmgI’m a part 141 student, my school is an accelerated course to get people their ratings as fast as possible, you could say a pilot mill. It’s geared towards preparing students to become airline pilots from their first day, where as part 61, while having the same ratings, is geared more towards recreational flying, or atleast for PPL and IRA. If you’re a fast learner and capable of excelling in a fast paced environment, go 141. If you feel like you need time to grasp all the abstract concepts of aviation that you will experience at the start, go 61.

I personally say transition to the wide body (787 cause I am biased) instead of upgrading to captain. Longer flights, cooler overnights, more adventures, more new vlog ideas, and you can just upgrade to captain once on the widebody later.

I hired on to a class 1 railroad as a freight conductor. We went through 6 weeks of training and then 6 months of OJT learning the territory we would be working. After those 6 months I was working either a guaranteed extra board where I needed to be available to work but if I didn't get called I still was paid for the day, or I was working a regular yard job where I was home every night or day. My base pay was $230 a day, no matter if I worked 2 hours or 8. If I went over 8 I started getting paid overtime. I am now retired and loving life!

Many of your passengers, with jobs requiring business travel, have additional “time away from base.” Whether those hours reduce the real pay per hour, seems to depend on whether the destinations are viewed as home away from home, even like mini vacations … or setbacks because you’re away from home. It often depends on the destinations.

Grew up as a military brat, many times on USAF bases that had flight lines. Dreamed my entire life of becoming a pilot. Took all the hard math and science classes in high school. Lived in Colorado Springs at the time. With my dad's 22-yr USAF career and my high scores, extracurricular activities, I was almost a shoe-in for the USAFA. Then I developed T1 diabetes halfway through my junior year in high school. Killed that dream. 40 years later, still feel crushed over it. MSFS2020 helps, but it isn't the same thing.

RE seniority and "it's not too late". AA does not experience peak retirements until around 2032, then a gradual tapering. The tapering is still incredible attrition! 1000+ retirements a year at peak, then 950, then 900, 850. 800. 700 etc. Even on the back side of "peak retirements" the hiring is crazy good.

SWA and AA have placed a indef hiring freeze on pilots. Theres way to many pilots in training and the regionals to majors pipeline is overloaed. The majors will be dialing back more and downsizingand expect 50% less pilots needed ny 32'. The schools are teaching single pilot ops for the airlines too. A close friend is a line check Capt/sim Capt and still on the line there, he said hiring will be on the shelf for awhile and the newest pilots will be dropped.

What is the difference between some pilots getting paid based on 75-80 hours per month of flight time and the method you are breaking down? Are you required to meet a certain number of monthly hours or flights per month even when you try to fly the minimum amount? If you only fly one day a month, based on one turn, would that be all someone makes (the $1500)? Trying to understand the different tiers of pay. Thanks for sharing!

Having spend a long career at a major....something here than needs to be point out I think...Look where he is living ....one of the most pricey and expensive cities in the world. NY. So what is that 213 an hour really worth ? Not really a commutable schedule in a 737 ....so he is kind of forced to live there...or it will come out of his body and time away commuting back and forth to his base. Flip side....many younger pilots now not really looking at non major airline altenatives...like flying boxes.... Usually far better and commutable schedules. (1 week on..10 days off..etc....) ..flying better routes. ..What is difference between getting up at 4 am or going to bed at 6 am ? Not sure. Ah the glory of being an airline pilot.

But, since pilots have to have so many hours of rest, the typical 737 pilot makes a little over 100K per year. I retired 8 years ago at age 55 from a Fortune 50 company that had warehouse workers making that much or more a year. Most worked 12 hour days five days a week, but were home with their families every night.

Sorry but the numbers you have for hourly rate seems way off. From pilot central a United fo on 737 with four years seniority the pay is listed as $161 to $168/hr. Where is $213 coming from?

I'm on A320 for lufthansa for 13 (!) years and I get (after tax) around 115$/h pay per block hour. we only get paid block hours.every other duty or ground courses with the company (emergency training and so on) is not paid extra. and our management always tells us pilots we're going to ruin the company and our salaries are not competitive. but hey promotion to captain is waiting at around 20 years seniority right now with lufthansa :D but even then we will ne get close to your FO salary in year 4 :D :D

After 20 years of military flying and 20 years of Commercial work.....do not underestimate the cost on your health. Pilots are paid much for their work - and there is a huge toll to be paid with health. Pilots notoriously underestimate the impacts on health trying to get back home with maximum $ in their pocket.
