These are the highs and lows of living in a truck camper. We realized our refrigerator vent was completely destroyed. After calling around to several dealership we found one in Poncha Springs, Colorado in stock. So we drive to pick it up and install it in the parking lot. We find a park to do our daily workouts. About a week ago we found mice in our truck! We got one out but we think one died in the air vent. The truck stunk so bad but it is slowly going away. We drive into Buena Vista and get a bite to eat at House Rock Kitchen. After that we go find another camping site. Drove around for a few hours and everything was packed! We did eventually find a spot. The next day Kellie cooked spinach feta wraps for breakfast. Later that day we hike the Zapata Falls trail near The Great Sand Dunes National Park. We head to a new campground and Kellie cooks fried mushrooms and trout.

43 years ago, I got divorced. I took my 1966 Ford F150 and built my own over the cab truck camper. Took me 4 months to build, I lived in it for two years. I insulated that creation to the max. I put a small wood stove in it. At minus 10 below I could get the inside up to 60 degrees. I dont blame anybody who lives in a truck camper. Its a tough life but it got me through.

Get a box of dryer sheets and spread around in your truck, outside compartments of the camper and a few inside camper. Should keep mice out. Used this method for years in our RV.

Peppermint essential oil if you want to try an aroma method. Honestly Colorado mice are on another level. They do not care about your dryer sheets, tin foil, poison (they just take this back to the nest for a snack), NOTHING WORKS. They were chewing on my hair as I slept. We DID everything to keep them out. Killed 5 with traps in one night but that was most nights all summer long. Like biblical level stuff. Us "locals" called it a "bad year. Probably?... Kody and Kelly, they can get into your truck like a siv. They can get through the smallest of holes and if they can't they will chew their way in. Only option is to go nuclear. Murder without mercy, best advice I've got. They are cute till they start chewing on 😇👸.

Noooo! Fallacy! We did that parking our trailer on relatives land because there car wires git chewed! All it did was invite then in! They used fir nets100s destroyed it and blankets.,Got inside roof chewed insulation. Only good thing os a truck clipped the top side edge of trailer few months later destroying frame so we got to total it on insurance! It was 5th wheel! Got 17 foot bunk trailer. Freed up truck bed!

Hey guys! In 2020, while I worked from home, rodents chewed on my Jeep's cables causing $6k in repair. I found a solution: Mighty Mint Rodent Repellent Spray from Amazon and cheap Irish Spring bar soap. Spray the places where they can climb (like tires) and place soap where they usually nest, like under the hood. You can place the pieces of the soap bar while parked and remove them when driving. I never had a problem again and have also converted all the neighbors to the same recipe. Good luck!

Make peppermint spray and spray it on your engine. That’s usually the entry place. I have a Mercedes sprinter van and they built a huge nest right next to my turbo intake that my son found when he was changing the air filter. Thank God we found it. This was built in just 4-5 days where my van was parked in my yard. Also if you can put a light on the ground under your engine at night.

I haven't read the comments, but a good deterrent for mice in vehicles is peppermint oil on cotton pads. They can smell it even if you think it isn't strong enough anymore. I use a mouse deterrent called Cab Fresh in our camper. It has a very nice herbal woodsy fragrance. Trout...yummmmmm! Happy camping 😊.

If you take your thyme.....put it in a shallow cardboard box.....cover with a tea towell.....it will dry and mucho better. You just crumble the dried thyme in your dishes and you will be happy. :) Such a better way than keeping it in the fridge. This looks fabulous by the way. And the area is beautiful.

I love mice and put out feed for them I guess I keep them full. They got in my sisters truck where the AC drain is and chewed a big hole. $1000 later and the dash completely removed it got fixed. The water was soaking the carpet inside the truck. bummer. Good luck with everything. It is always something.

Watched a KZbin video Titled "Life in a truck camper has its ups and downs" and you mentioned that you had mice in your truck vents. Thought we'd leave a note stating for future reference that rodents do not like the smell of mint. Look for mint that comes in concentrated drops. Sprinkle everywhere you can, including your engine compartment and your vents. Good Luck, signed Mike & Debbie.

Great fix on the top of the camper, Cody. The fish cooked in a skillet looks awesome. Certainly if you invest the time to catch more fish, you'll GET more fish. Which, by the way, is just about the most healthy thing humans can eat. Homo Sapiens and those who came before us have been eating fish for millions of years. We lived by rivers, oceans, seas, gulfs, bays and bayous for millions of years because FISH were so easily caught and eaten. Every single way to cook fish-- among them baking it, grilling it, and more-- all of them are better for you... than frying it. But? Frying it in butter is SO damn good. Eating good on the road. Every fish you catch is a fish you didn't have to buy in a store! So go fishing more!

Mice can make a nest in the housing where the the fan or AC fan is when it is idle, then when you turn on the fan: mice blender. When I was a kid, my mom's car had AC; one day she turned it on and fur blew everywhere. My dad took out the AC fan housing and it was a horror movie inside; momma mouse and a bunch of babies.
