Wonderful, so controlled and as someone else said, ver dignified. What a great artist to inspire people today. I love her monologues, Pete Hutley, Newcastle, Australia.

I was so pleased to find this monologue. One associates Joyce Grenfell with comedy, but she created some very effective serious material, of which this is an excellent example. Thank you so much for uploading so we can all enjoy it.

Wonderful. Thank you for posting this. Its just as moving as I remember it. She was quite something, our Joyce.

This is so good. You'd never get anything like this today, sadly. You still get a lot of character comedy, and some of it is very funny. But the idea of subtlety and warmth has completely gone out of it. That's why JG will always be a real treasure.

I so adore Joyce Grenfell

This has an amazing, powerful last sentence, in which Joyce conveys so much in her voice, tone and look. The usual powerhouse of a performance from her! I find her acting (and writing) phenomenal and although she obviously enjoyed performing comedy in films, I am sure she would have also been great with more serious character roles, although I'm aware that performers were largely pigeonholed back then and weren't 'allowed' to do other things that the audience would not have expected.

Grenfell's great technique--the "freeze frame" at the end of the monologue. If you read her wartime journals (now in print), she had a bit of a romantic fling with Ali Khan on during her ENSA tours--just dancing and flowers but she def. had a crush. I wonder if this informed her awareness of the life of an artist on tour.

Kinda brilliant ..and touching. An adult view, too rare nowadays, of the range of modus vivendi in a marriage that's successful by most criteria. #Grenfell's 'EngLit' series is still my favorite.

I remember the day she died, November 30 1979. There will never be another like Joyce..The attitude of the woman she is playing is sad but not uncommon..shame.
