@@charmayne161 I'm saying this objectively, not just because it's the country I live in. Firstly, I cannot stress enough how safe Croatia is. When I hear Americans advising women to "always be aware of their surroundings", I'm truly shocked. Here I can walk alone, with my headphones, in any part (I'm living in the capital, Zagreb) of the city at any time of the day. We simply don't even think about the possibility that something would/could happen. So that's one thing you don't stress about. Our school and educational systems is different. By school, I mean we have primary school form 1st till 8th grade(so from cca. 7yrs old till 14), then we have high school and it's not connected with primary in any way. You are choosing your high school by your interests/aspirations. You can go to a gymnasium(there are different ones, I went to the "Science and Mathematics" one; I don't know how to translate it, because it won't make sense. If you want, I can describe them to you). There are also (I hope I'm translating it correctly) vocational schools. Some of them last 3 years, but the majority is 4. After that, you can go to the University. We don't have colleges. By educational, I mean that our kids have much more subjects, it's not superficial learning about some topic. I can vividly remember a guy from my high school- he was living in the US for a number of years and returned to Croatia when he was 15. He was having troubles with math because we were far ahead with the matter. Some people say that we're "burdening our children" because they really have to learn a lot. But to be bluntly honest, kids are like sponges and in their age, they are able to learn incredible amounts of data. Also, education is of utmost importance because the more you know, the less is a possibility that you will be easily manipulated. You won't be a sheep. I'm not trying to sound like a conspiracy theorist... Back to the safety. You can let your kid outside, send them to the park alone and don't worry if they will get kidnapped. I don't know if this was of any help. I can go to a greater details if you want.

Socialised healthcare ensures your child will always receive the best healthcare no matter your financial circumstances, and I no longer fear my kids being killed at school by a child with a gun.
