It's the fact that Kate blamed Collin for having gum and getting gum on his bear when the adult in charge GAVE IT TO HIM. Like he was 3. He didn't know he wasn't allowed to have it.

Also - some kids get so attached to their stuffed animals (and Collin clearly was), that to treat their little friend like an object to throw away when it’s inconvenient is insensitive if not cruel! (Their aunt definitely shouldn’t have given them gum - that’s a choking hazard for young kids - but, like you said, the whole issue is on the adult!)

@@tkay7950 I think in the full episode she said she didn't actually throw the stuffed animal away but it's still messed up that she pretended she was going to. A safe adult offered him something and he took it... why wouldn't he? I'm not sure why the aunt gave them gum especially without watching them with it but with as annoying as Kate is and as much as Jody babysits them I could definitely see her doing it on purpose just to make Kate mad lol. She probably had no idea Kate would blame and be angry with the kids about it because who does that?

The fact that Mady who was, what, 7? at the time had more sense and emotional maturity handling that situation - recognizing it was an accident and that Kate's reaction was way too much, and trying to comfort and defend her little brother - is genuinely so embarrassing for Kate.

I WILL say that Jon continued hearing his children...especially when poor Collin sent him a desperate letter, written in crayon, pleading for his father to come rescue him from the institution his mother had thrown him in. He is now living with Jon (as is Hannah) and seems to be doing MUCH better than when he was with his Mom.

I think all of the kids are so cute but I've noticed since they were little Colin and Hannah both have unique eyes. I don't mean it in a bad way but I think it's always bothered Kate

What trips me out is how young Jon and Kate actually were. Growing up I had always thought they were in their mid to late 30s, especially since they went the fertility treatment route to have their kids. To me, that was always something older couples did after trying for years. To think that they had only tried for a few months and were in their 20s is so wild to me. I’m 29 now and can’t imagine having 8 children under the age of 10. Like..? No wonder their parenting styles were such a mess!

I watched this show when I was a kid and seeing the bear scene as a child makes me so sad. Especially since reading a psychology of children book where it says ages 1-3, kids can't feel guilt and they discouraged trying to make them feel guilt as punishment at that age because it can mess them up...

My mom used to love Kate plus Eight. Even back then, she recognized how awful Kate was to Colin. It was all about Kate controlling and intimidating the children. Colin wasn’t cowed by her. If this is what was shown, imagine what wasn’t.

Can confirm that Kate was a nurse before the show started. I have a family member who worked closely with her and apparently, she was a terrible person long before she was famous lol. I also went to the same pediatric dentist as the kids and one time we were there at the same time as Kate and the twins. She cornered the dentist and talked to her for like an hour, holding up the entire office.

I’m definitely very aware of how Jon may come off better just from our biased expectations for how ‘moms’ are supposed to be vs. ‘dads’ - though, I think part of why Kate comes off worse is that she tends to instigate the fights and has a clear need for control. Then again, women also tend to get stuck with extra responsibilities for managing their families, remembering important dates, etc., and that can look like being controlling - that is, one partner not doing their fair share can force the other partner into being the ‘bad guy’. I don’t know if this necessarily applies here (since Jon does clearly do a lot of the chores and kid-rearing), but that’s something to consider… 🤷‍♀️

I dont understand churches that send the kids off to a nursery. In Catholicism these little ones are as welcome as anyone else during Mass. They are our brothers and sisters. And they can be taught with quality parenting to be quiet in a quiet environment. It's a necessary skill.

Discipline makes your nervous? Parents who don't discipline are awful parents. Letting your kids do what they want without consequence is ridiculous. When they're little no one expects apologies to be heartfelt. You're teaching the idea on a basic level ... They learn more as they get older. But you have to start early.
@katnikkerkayla
@katnikkerkayla 13 күн бұрын
sticking a kid into a corner and making them apologize as opposed to teaching them why something isn’t okay doesn’t make someone a good parent and inherently doesn’t make a person grow up to be a well equipped adult. you can literally use these kids and who they’ve all grown up to be and the relationships they do/don’t have with their parents as an example.
