I am so sorry for your loss Andrea. This is one reason that I do not consume alcohol. I like to be in control of my actions, so that one day I will not make a decision that will destroy the lives of others. Thank you for sharing and I hope that this help raise the awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving.

That is so sad. Im sorry for your loss, Andrea. Its so painful to see how many people decide to go driving while drunk. Thank you for doing this fundraiser. There are so many people who need to know the truth.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I agree - the pain of these choices is just unbearable, becuase they're exactly that - choices. So many people don't have a choice when it comes to things that they decide to do in and with their life. Drunk driving should technically, in a perfect, ideal world never ever ever have to happen. It's so senseless and confusing to me. Thank you for listening and commenting in support. It really means so much to me, truly 💙

Andrea, I'm so sorry for your loss, and I can't help thinking about the person the son married either; their life as a married couple ended pretty much as soon as it began, all because another driver on the road selfishly chose to get behind the wheel while drunk. But, I think this video will influence people to stop driving under the influence, because sometimes, yes, people can drive after drinking more than they should; with blood alcohol levels over the legal limit, and nothing happens, but other times, it can cost people their lives.

Now I better understand why I always connected with you and your videos: you're a fellow Michigander/Michiganian (or as they say in Yidfish, michigene, in a good way of course😁) . Now I'm going to drink some pop😂 (not).

I have zero tolerance for people who drink and drive. A drunk 19 year old hit me at over 100 mph and the tried to tell the police I was her designated driver even though several other cars witnessed it. I have reported ex-friends for drinking and driving. There are no excuses. Thank you for every update! Diabetes can really drag you down at times and it helps to hear others and what they are going through.

How did you manage blood sugars on a cruise?
@ShesDiabetic
@ShesDiabetic 7 ай бұрын
Actually - it wasn't too bad! My one big hack...I took the stairs everywhere!!!! Hahaha! But actually - the portions on the cruise weren't too large at all - very reasonable - and I just tried to eat on the lower carb side of things. They even had no sugar added desserts that I was lucky to partake in! Everything in moderation worked in my favor - except the stairs - I did those in excess, not moderation lol!

This is tragic. A hard loss for everyone and my heart breaks for the poor bride. Sadly this sort of thing happens far too often. A friend lost his best mate in a crash caused by a guy who had apparently just had 2 beers but on a dark night, on a corner, was blinded by the glare of the headlights and crossed lanes resulting in a head-on collision. My mate had been to a party with his best mate. His best mate's Mum was the sober driver for the night. It's tragic that having taken care to have a sober driver and not be a danger themselves, someone else was less considerate and killed his best mate and best mate's Mum. What destroys me every time I think about this is that his best mate was actually his toddler son. So his best mate's Mum was his wife. As you can no-doubt imagine, he struggled with living every day of his life for many, many years after that. He just didn't want to be here anymore. The guilt, anger and loss was immense. There are literally no words of comfort to give someone who's going through this. It seems that people who are toxic, careless or selfish will often cause so much damage to others. Meanwhile the other driver had minor cuts and bruises and got away with a driving ban. People need to be less selfish and more considerate towards others. There's simply no room for "nah, it'll never happen to me, I'll be fine." Don't forget to give yourself time to heal too - while not directly involved, it's hard not to be rocked by something like this if you have an ounce of empathy or love in you. So be as patient and kind with your own feelings as you would with anyone else's.

I think you and Justin of Diabetech should get together to do an episode of his podcast. You’ve had T1D since age 15 and he has only been a diabetic for just over 3 years diagnosed at age 29 right before he turned 30 back in 2021. I think since he says he talks with “…& those thriving with Diabetes” you should be one of them along with Diabetic Danica and Michelle Lord. Not sure what your subtopic could be off the top of my head but I know for Danica it would be about Certified Diabetes Educators (CDCES) and Michelle would be Being a Diabetic Mom raising Toddlers.

I knew a man (we no longer associate) who was arrested for drunk driving. He definitely had an ongoing problem with alcohol. In order to be able to get himself to work, the police allowed him to drive with a device that was added to his vehicle. I'm not sure what it was called, but basically it was a breathalizer, attached to his car, that he had to blow into to start his car. How simple would it be to equip all vehicles with this technology. If any of our lawmakers were serious about preventing this kind of behavior, they could make this a priority and push car manufacturers to install it. Our roads will never be 100% safe, but any steps we can take to improve safety should be taken.

You don’t have to worry about me being a driver; I’m obviously old enough at age 34 but for disability reasons I don’t drive. I’m looking forward to the “Correction Factor, how to manually dose Insulin corrections for Diabetes; The Basics” video. [You don’t have to come up with a title 😉] There may be new people out there new to the T1D world who have just entered it or people like me who know about T1D and just want to be prepared for the unpredictable. I know to a lot of people out there that there is a myth that T1D only gets diagnosed around the ages 5-17 but I know it could rear its diagnosisable head at any age. So far I know of two KZbinrs who were diagnosed around age 30.

Drunk diving is the worst, but driving by itself is also bad if we could walk, cycle or take a train. Driving kills also through accidents that don't involve alcohol and global warming kills too. I know... it's depressing 😢, especially in the US which is such a car centric country.

Hi Andrea, first of all, sorry for your loss. I don’t know if I mentioned it in a previous message. My parents and I nearly could have the possibility of dying in a home fire, ironically, it was in the first wave of the pandemic and luckily my parents and I were fine and this situation is now gone in the sunset. Having faced the possibility of the inevitable. I now have the mantra, “I have faced worse.” Also to try and enjoy the best you can and try and saviour each moment in the here and now. I try not go into the cheesiness into this topic, but it’s true, just live and feel the best way you can, in the kelly clarkson, “What doesn’t kill ya, makes ya stronger.” right?
