Grieving is a life-long process. I lost my dad in 1996 and my mom in 2003 (a few days before Christmas). The pain lessens with time but it never completely disappears. There are times when something will "trigger" a memory, etc. It can be something like a smell or a song, etc. Expect those times and understand those memories will simultaneously make you cry and smile. Don't suppress your grief or try to push it aside. It's much healthier to work through it and acknowledge it. Losing a parent is tough but it seems you had a great relationship with your mom. You will be glad you maintained that relationship and will have no regrets in the future. I know too many people who regret they didn't make more of an effort to maintain/re-establish a relationship with a parent before they passed. Take care of yourself and know that grief is fluid.

My mom has been gone for 8 years now, and I still catch myself thinking about things I want to call up and ask her about. Then I get mad/sad when I remember that I can't. Having siblings helps, especially when both your parents are gone. The best advice I can give you for the first few months is to always carry sunglasses. You never know when you'll be doing fine, and then some song plays on the grocery store Muzak and suddenly you're sobbing in the Safeway. 💔 The firsts (Christmas, birthdays, etc) are always the hardest, so try to be gentle with yourself.

Francisco, my condolences to you and your family. I wanted to share I went through something similar after my mom passed. The last year was full of not so nice days especially the last few months. I found those memories playing back in my head like you describe. Just know they will eventually ease up and be replaced with an image of the way you remember her before she was ill with her beautiful smile. Again, it’s still fresh for you so be easy on yourself. From what I could see you are a sweet and caring son, love Patrick ❤

But now I think of her being free of pain and illness and I feel that she is at complete peace and knowing that brings me peace. You will always think about her and her love for you will never die. Please don’t forget that and remember to live your life in the best way you know to honor her memory it will help you to heal. I use to still take my full rollerboard suitcase when I flew again for just in case we would stranded somewhere! One of my best friends here in Chicago had been holding for a few years now. My Stacey, like myself, takes care of her Mother at home here in Chicago. She like coming in the afternoon or early evening. With her seniority she holding east turns. Well, please continue to fly safe. And you are fine with warm and great memories of your Mother. If you feel like crying with those memories than do. I do still when myself with tears in my eyes as well since Jan. 2017.❤😊❤

Welcome Home! Oh my goodness. You are loved! Your dog is so happy with you! I am so glad you have her. I am finishing my 11th year in retirement from AA. The only thing I care to remember is my last trip to Barcelona. Also my retirement check on the first and my great friends. I am not sure this will help you now, but: "Look back, but don't stare." You will have your best friend and pet to look forward to for a long time my friend. I will share this with you. I am 69 years old and although my mom passed in 2012 I still will think about calling her. And when I think about behaving badly, she stops me. I would not trade that for anything. The memories and love will never end.
