Reolink has a number of "Content Creators" of YT on its webpage for this product. I'm glad you are on the page because home security is your lane. Having general "Home Tech" people doing reviews and comparisons doesn't really help a consumer. I first subscribed when your channel was new... I appreciate you have maintained your clear and effective structure in your videos - thank you. The software in cameras and back-end processing seems to be really shifting quickly as companies seek to differentiate themselves - especially when selling the same models from an OEM. Having lived with EUFI motion activated I find it misses far too much. I think 20 sec pre-record would be better than 10 sec because it can capture what is happening that the cam can see but the sensor has not yet acted on. Continuous record - even just at low FPS and then jumping to full res and full FR on demand might even help battery cam with solar but my experience is as soon as you start getting a lot of motion events a battery just can not keep up with a small solar panel. Maybe in time the power management will be a lot leaner in how it can run a cam but for now I think hard line power is needed and still options for wifi. Run POE for those that can be wired that way and 240V (mains) power with wifi for those that can't have data wiring. By preference I'd also set up a separate wifi router with my recorder in a secure room of my home on UPS so the cameras cant be disabled by shutting down my normal wifi.

Definitely after speaking with many professionals, we are getting rid of our wireless motion, activated events, and going with continuous. There’s been a huge push by law-enforcement to have continuous because there’s been many situations where the motion event didn’t pick up for whatever the reason or didn’t last long enough. With this in mind it would be helpful to know what is the best wired device with a great app.

@@LifeHackster Any progress on trying bigger solar panel? While you are at it, it may be worthwhile to experiment with power bank as well. The thinking is that the camera won't take more charges from larger panel once the battery is full and larger power bank will solve the issue. In order to pre-record, it has to be recording all the time, draining the battery. So without a solar panel, you'll get 4 days or less before empty. With a solar panel you might be able to stretch it, but in the winter, don't count on it lasting more than 3 days. Also, SD cards are not meant to be written to 24/7, so idk if they added some internal buffer or what, but I would also assume that it's going to chew through the SD card faster than other cameras

@LifeHacksterАй бұрын
I know..more of a marketing strategy. It ticks all the boxes though, they didn't mislead... that is why they didn't say 24/7 recording.... it can record continuously which is true until the battery runs out. @@da9el84 I think they are grammatically correct when saying "Can record contiously for 12 hrs a day", that means it records without breaks during that 12 hrs a day timeframe and that is correct. From our view on this video that is a horrible angle for the solar panel no wonder why your solar panel wasn't keeping up..... You really should look up the correct angle for your zip code to angle it.

This is my camera testing setup where I used Reolinks mount in the fascia board but because of my gutters, positioning is limited but this is actually probably the best spot where the morning sun hits it..getting the panel 6-8 hours of sunlight. See my timelapse. I now transferred the setup in my shed with appropriate sunlight ~ 4 hours but in peak 11-3 sun... But, the main thing about this is that the 6 watt solar panel will not be able to keep up even in the most ideal setup non-cloudy day for 24/7 recording. It needs a bigger high wattage one.
