My Army schooling and service was a million years ago, so I’ll direct this question to anyone who has had recent military leadership and management training. What’s the difference between this new-to-me CARVER Matrix and the decision matrices that I was taught to choose between Courses of Action A, B, & C as a staff officer making recommendations to the Commander? Thanks and greetings from Taipei, Taiwan.

This is a new decision making process to me. Followed MDMP during my time in uniform and this is fascinating.

the perpendicular calculations are groundbreaking sir.

How to do this? Give an example.
@deepak.laodicean3 ай бұрын
Sorry you can learn this in business courses. I dont want to break any classifications. You just have to realize that the factors on the vertical side has weight implications too and what they need to allocate.
@unknowninfinium43533 ай бұрын
@@deepak.laodicean Sure and thanks. I wanted to know your perspective because even if the vertical side has additions how is it different from other verticals where the horizontal were scored and then descisions were taken. How can verticals have that same conclusions when verticals arent the different scenarios as supposed to the horizontal.

This is important similar to ask hole subject, to identify targets and which one crucial to stop first, with this concept gives ability to stop the most dangerous target first and go to least

Very similar to a risk matrix, used in insurance, PM and risk engineering all the time

I done some practice questions from a test based on the DLAB earlier in the afternoon today, it's amazing! I used to doubt my language abilities, after I tried it, the opposite, I'm more determined to learn Turkish now, I stopped duolingo because it's kinda crappy to fail me for a couple mistakes. Starting from scratch again.

Brother! So crazy to me that I found this comment after watching the video on SO language learning as well. I'm in the same situation right now, but i've never tried the DLAB. Where did you find the mock one you did? I've love to try it for myself.

For a uniform singular methodology I haven’t seen anything better. Many of the underlying principles have been copied in some form by self help or business optimization & planning organizations or programs.

Eh I would have liked to have seen you walk through a few examples. I mean this is an introduction but i feel like this requires external information to implement. Now I need to go look up a video that will give me the details.

I agree I find it hard to understand and acquire without a 'study case' examples.

It is kind of funny that tactical military planning rediscovers the microeconomic concept of opportunity cost, though specifically applied to target engagement opportunities. I suspect that the matrix components have some sort of "measure of value" dimension. Specifically, what "unit of measurement" is used typically, maybe USD? It would be kind of cynic to measure the lives of servicemen in training cost in the CARVER matrix as for denoting potential casualty, isn't it?

Useful examples. Thanks for the brevity. In civvy world, this is known as the decision matrix. (If each criterion is weighted, it's a weighted decision matrix.) I've usually seen it transposed (i.e. each option is a column and the criteria make up the rows.)

This is strangely circular, since such utility or cost/risk/benefit assessments are common practice in business. The scoring needs explaining, and especially how to assign values to a non-numeric criterion. In business the metric is usually money. What would be useful is the specops secret sauce, i.e. injecting that sense of urgency, gravitas & significance. It's too easy to get buried in complexity. The weakness of business or personal decisions is also they are often abstract & theoretical with no major consequence of error. Personal note, I sense the host is weary - the VO doesn't have that intensity it normally has.
