Another great video! Wales looks so beautiful. The aviation portion reminded me of my father in law. He was a B17 pilot during WW2 stationed in Mendelshem. He flew over 20 missions, and he went back there for the 40th reunion. I would often kid him and say, “thank you for saving the world!” Thank God for the incredible Army Air Force and RAF…they did play a huge part in the Allied victory. A great and humble generation!

Very enjoyable, I love Anglesey. No visit to RAF Valley is complete without mentioning the fact that Prince William served there as a SAR pilot flying Sea King helicopters from 2010-13. He moved there with his wife immediately after their marriage, making him the first Royal to live in Wales since Henry VII. The Anglesey Waitrose in Menai Bridge soon acquired the nickname "Katerose" in honour of their royal customer.
@LifeistooshortCK

Absolutely right to mention it Peter. SAR was not an easy option either seeing the conditions they have to go out in. Didn’t know the story about Katerose 👍

Thank you for the video. Took me back to 1979 when RAF Valley was my first station after training as an RAF Engineer Officer. No KFC on the island in those days! For anything but the basics, you had to drive to Bangor or Llandudno. In fact, my first son was born while we were there and we had to travel all the way to Bangor in an ambulance when labour started.

Our closest KFC is franchised to a local man and all his employees are local, all the food gets brought in by lorry daily though. Regards from Solent Coast. AJ

Love your videos for my research on park ups. Did you end up staying at the south stack car park overnight? If it's allowed I may make a journey to Holyhead soon. some great shooting! Hoping to become a pilot myself at some point. Did you know the red arrows use an older version of the T2 called the T1A its also a trainer jet with older equipment and avionics. The T1A also has a slightly upgraded engine as well as the infamous smoke generator where the dye is mixed with the exhaust to produce the red white and blue smoke.
@LifeistooshortCK
@LifeistooshortCK 3 жыл бұрын
All the best for achieving your ambition to become a pilot. Watching them fly the other day made me think of all the hard work they had already done to get a position in one of those jets 👍

I was involved with the Red Arrows aircraft smoke mod when I worked at BAe Dunsfold where the Hawk was first built a long time ago. The smoke is generated by injecting diesel into the engine jet out let. The blue and red colour is just dye put into the diesel (white is just plain diesel), this dye is a thick glutinous liquid. Some of the other guys on the project were older with grey hair (I was a young wipper snapper in my twenties) It was always amusing seeing them with blue or red streaks in their hair where they’d had some dye on their hands and got it in their hair. The original trial smoke system just had the smoke pod on the belly of the aircraft with pipes strapped along the fuselage with the ends protruding into the jet output from the jet pipe from the engine. The quality of the smoke depended on how far or what angle these pipes protruded, it took a fair amount of work to get it acceptable standard for displays.

My wife and I have only just found your videos and we are enjoying them very much. You 2 are the spitting images of my sister-in-law and her husband from Brighton and Portsmouth! Anglesey is a particular favourite as we visit quite often and know so many of the locations you have filmed. Your choices of background music are perfect too. One question if you still get back to these comment sections months later. I feel I recognise that car park at the beginning of all the videos we've seen so far - 8 to 10 seconds in - but for the life of me I can't place it. I looks very Peak District. Where is it?

I have just recently bought a brand new Fiat Talento lwb van, onyx edition 6 seater, with alloy wheels, side bars and higher end fittings etc. aimed at the hospitality market, I think. It is the same van as the older vauxhall vivaro and renault traffic and bigger than the present day vivaro linked to the Peugeot group after the takeover. Because of covid and the hospitality industry being on it's back, I got it for £25k including vat. I have commissioned a full camper conversion with pop top, 120 cm sliding rib altair bed etc.etc. etc. at a cost of circa £17.5k. If you take the full cost into account, it is still much less than a full main manufacturer built job by nearly £10 k.

@LifeistooshortCK
@LifeistooshortCK 3 жыл бұрын
For us CarPlay has been useless whereas in our car its great. The car is a Volvo and carplay works via a cable. In the NV200 its wireless and the satnav keeps losing position which is why you often see us using our phones only.

Remember, the Official Secrets Act is not to protect secrets - It's to protect officials. My uncle was Group Captain Lionel Mandrake and was the CO of Burpelson AFB in the midlands. He went on to become a telephone repairman and was bitten by a dog.

I hope the dog was court-martialled and received suitable chastisement. 😏👍

If you look at Google maps you could be forgiven for thinking there wasn't much there other than RAF Valley and Holyhead but we know different don't we.. I noticed today that there is something that points you out as having spent your life in Scilly Sussex when you pronounced "seen it" as sin it. Just like us Daveys do. Also tell Carol the the windswept "hairstyle" she was "rocking' as the youngsters say, has always been known in our family as "Seaside hair". We would go down Littlehampton west beach or Climping and come back to granny's for tea and she'd say "I know where you been boy, you got Seaside hair". Made me smile on a miserable dull day in Glawstersher 🙂. I haven't had a KFC for about three years now but I know my son says the same as you that it's not what it was. Bring back the Colonel I say. 🙂

Good observations Nigel. Pronunciation of words features heavily in criminal investigations, the hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper being one of the most famous or infamous perhaps. Never heard it called seaside hair but that is what it is. Couldn’t agree more about bringing back the Colonel. Poor chap must be spinning in his grave. 👍

Nice videos. Pronunciation of place-names might benefit from a little bit of effort 😎

Wikipedia often gives the Welsh pronunciation, Ken. As I just found out looking up Rhosneigr. "Rhos" is very common in Wales, meaning "moor". Neigr appears to be of disputed origin, unfortunately. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhosneigr

Yes it would. It would be nice for you to video a local person simply speaking the place name. Would that help? You wouldn’t have to say them at all.
