As a Brit, I'd say that both France and the UK are brilliant countries in their own right, but that they are also fundamentally different and so a person could potentially live contentedly in either country. It all depends on which lifestyle works best for the individual.

I'm from north Africa and i have some friends from France but I don't know anyone in UK . In addition it's my dream to live in Liverpool . What should I do go and live with my friends or going to Liverpool
@Vixterlk3 жыл бұрын
@@omarlounis2484 That's a difficult choice for sure. It's always difficult to uproot and live somewhere else let alone another country entirely. It can be easier if you already have friends to help you adjust to life there. But if your heart is set on Liverpool I'd suggest perhaps visiting it first or staying there temporarily if that's an option that's open to you. That way you'll get a feel of what life is like there. Also, I'm not sure how old you are, but the University of Liverpool does accept international students and has scholarship options for international students that are self funded. That would theoretically give you three years in living Liverpool with a student visa, which at the moment is probably the most attainable visa, being in a university environment would also give you the opportunity to make friends quite easily. But it's only three years, so if you decided that it wasn't for you, you could go back to your home country or look into that option of going to France; which, again, I would reccommend scoping out first if you can to get a sense of the local culture and whether or not you would be happy living there. And if you did like Liverpool you could start looking into options that would allow you to stay. Ultimately though the choice is yours but I hope that my response gives you something to consider and will prove to be helpful in some way. I wish you happiness and prosperity, whatever you ultimately decide.

If you see King of england since the beginning you noticed they have all French or German origin . Just see you can check by yourself House who directed England: 1.Wessex first King of England is Athelstan. Athelstan is from Saxe region in Germany, he was king of Anglo-Saxon and he invaded England in 924, So he was at the same time King of England and King of Germany. Then French Invasion 2. Norman 3. Plantagenet who get divided into 3 houses Lancaster, d'York and Tudor 4.Lancaster 5.York 6. Tudor 7. Stuart ( House of Stuart are from Brittany French region the city of Dol de Bretagne) When the Norman invade England other region had come like the Breton. So Norman took England and The Breton went higher in Scotland. Then Walter who has Breton origin created the House of Stuart and became King of Scotland). And in 1603 they Were king of Scotland and England till 1714. 8.House of Hanover George 1 er descending of Stuart became King of England in 1714, he is born in Germany and controlled the duché of Brunswick-Lunebourg in Germany and he has French Breton origin. When Queen Victoria die in 1901 the throne was given to another German family. 9. Windsor was basically called house of Saxe-Cobourg-Gotha, But during the First World War, the anti-German feeling is so important that they have to change their name and take the name of Windsor To sum up Wessex German Normand French Plantagenet French Lancaster French York French Tudor French Stuart French Hanover German Windsor German They are 0 real English house and English king

I think both nations have their pros and cons. Education: England is certainly ahead of France. In Pisa 2018, England was far ahead in literacy, maths and science coming 13th place, while France scored very below average and continues to decline. The report noted that there is a much wider gap between poor students and rich students in France. In England, even schools in poor areas are better funded and managed than France. It's common to find poorer French schools without basic tech and equipment. English schools are more colourful, inviting and welcoming places to learn. The National Curriculum is broad and balanced and is rich, with students studying broad subjects and plenty of optional subjects for later secondary. In France, there is no national curriculum and no cross-country standards. In primary school, French students study far less than England, but in secondary school they study roughly the same subjects, with English students having access to more variety of subjects. England's colleges and higher education is world leading and offers a much more higher quality and broad education than France. The English lead the world in creativity, and this is a result of a heavy presence of the art and design, performing arts and design and technology in English schools. Health: I think France wins here. England is a colder nation, thus doesn't share the mediterranean culture and diet. Both England and France do share similar health and social problems. The French and English healthcare system are different, in a sense that the English tend to view healthcare as a more government run and completely controlled by the government. Indeed, the French system is more in line with the American system, but with fairer prices. The French system performs slightly better than the English system, however, the English pay less fees. Happiness and life satisfaction: I think both France and England are equal here. The French have a better climate which results in a more happier society, however, both nations have many areas that could be considered quite depressing. I think the life satisfaction of both England and France are similar. France has a slightly bigger welfare state, but only due to the differences in English and French society. The English tend to view the welfare state as a temporary measure to help the sick and those in need while the French view the welfare state as a more permanent thing. The French more than likely feel better protected at work. The English value a much more simple way of doing work while the French are more keen on protections, however, the English probably end up enjoying their work more and as a result enjoy higher wages, better working hours and often better productivity. I think civic engagement is more respected by the English. In England, a lot of cultural events are far cheaper than in France not forgetting England has free museums. The French do better at art while the English do better at musical events and festivals. Infrastructure largely depends on what part in England and France you live in. In England, infrastructure tends to be stronger in the South West and in London, while in France infrastructure tends to be stronger in Paris. Railways and trains are broadly similar in both nations, and 5-10 min delays are quite common in both nations outside of the main cities. Safety and security; I think England is ahead of France here. But France isn't too far behind. England has a lower climate rate than France and tends to value its police services more. The English police are trained differently and act differently. England and France have different police systems. In England, the police are far more respected than in France. They are seen as polite, friendly and professional, while in France that view is far less held. There are more schemes in England to help poorer communities with crime, but again, France isn't exactly behind here hugely. Despite the trolls here, both nations are very similar.

French health system is undoubtedly better than UK,and relevant better medical resources in UK are mostly in private sectors,the fee would be higher than in France. Actually, France do have a national curriculum :) As for PISA, these tests are interesting for a number of things. However, it is known to be slightly easier for anglo-americans pupils. The format of the tests and questions are traditional in their educational system whereas French pupils discover it on the day of the test. What's more, PISA only test 15 years old. 15 years old teens may all be in the same educational-year in England but that's not the case in France. 15 years old are distributed in six different years of the french schooling system [Hence, 40% of the 15 years old tested haven't yet gotten to the year they are 'supposed' to be in and so haven't covered the "15 years-old" curriculum yet.
@010Astroboy4 жыл бұрын
I would just like to point out that the magazines and people making the decisions on which universities are best in the world are usually dominated by Anglo-saxons so there is a huge BIAS there. The criteria used on how they judge this is also highly questionable.

I'm British and I agree.Our 2 cultures are the pre-eminent in modern history, and we only stand to regress, in the future, by comparison to the massive nations, in the world, who stand to outpace us in the future, due to the natural tendency of advanced technology becoming cheaper and more readily available to less "Traditionally advanced cultures" in the future, which can then more easily Exploit their natural advantages e.g. raw materials and therefore become more dominant, by Comparison to Smaller, less populous Countries with Fewer Natural Resoures. The long-term future will probably see China, India, Brazil, USA and Russia, outpacing Europe, so Europe, or at least nortthern and central Europe (at least), needs to get more integrated, I think, but doesn't mean we need to lose our independent cultures

Well, I've been to both the United Kingdom and France on a cruise ship to countries in northern Europe in July of 2017. It is hard to pick one because they are both strong European nations. I'll have to go with France because of the French language and culture. I'll visit the UK as a citizen of France and enjoy the things that country has. God Save The Queen for the UK and Vive la France for France.

Being able to comprehend English is much more benefitial than French though.
@newmanchester85044 жыл бұрын
@@davidbooth46ify , that is interesting. I'll have to say this. The French language is the most difficult language to speak. That is what I heard. Heard about this on France 24 English. I have to be careful on what to say to people in England (UK). An elevator is known as a lift, fanny pack is a bum bag, pants is trousers, friend is mate, vacation is holiday and highway is motorway. Plus, got to get used to the UK driving on the left and France driving on the right as I go back and forth between countries on the eurotunnel. I don't hate the UK and I don't hate France. There is things I am going to like and things I am not going to like from both the UK and France, but all and all they are good countries, even though they had a nasty past of hating each other. People say the French are rude and the British are rude. Some say both the British and French are stuck up with the Brits being snobbish. Then you have people say the French are culture snobs. Well, the French being rude is not true. As the British say, it is a bunch of bloody rubbish. UK and France are mixed bags. You have good and bad in everybody. Anna Wintour, a journalist and editor/editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine, is a witch who bullies fashion models and treat people in the fashion world like rubbish. She hates small talk and ignores people when they say hi to her. There is people like her in the UK, but not everybody is like her. I ran into some nice Brits on KZbin and in public in the states. The only French person I met in the states is at a T.J. Maxx that I used to work at. She was an American of French descent.

Our educational systems are not comparable, we do not develop the same skills, and it is not measurable because of our cultures. But there is a reality, France is the 5th world power, it is like England the basis of Western civilization, we have spread together the freedom to think and to undertake. We share the same story, the English language is 80% French words, we had the same King William the conqueror, and we are together beaten for freedom in 14-18 and 39-45.

For unemployment rate... I think UK is more "encouraging" to find a new job 😅 The maximum length of time you can receive unemployment benefit is 23 months in France...6 in England. 6 months of work in the last 22 months in France to receive unemployment benefit... 2 years of work on the English side.
@nathanjora76276 жыл бұрын
There are so much problems with your analysis... My gosh... First of all : education. Is it really worth the time to explain how an anglo-saxon view on education might not be ideal when studying not anglo-saxon educations ? (especially when there is a claim of objectivity) I mean, just take the fashion in which students are evaluated in both countries, they are totally different. The same goes for unemployment : we have less employment, but better safety (far better safety of employment) and better redistribution, which means that the 5% of differences to that regard, between France and England, are compensated by the fact that French earn more unemployment benefit, for example.
@lifelonglearners97846 жыл бұрын
I appreciate your general point. There is huge complexity in France and the UK so condensing ‘liveability’ into a 5-minute video is never going to be totally comprehensive. It will however, create interesting content that will hopefully lead to debate, understanding and learning (i.e. the point of this video). Specifically, regarding your education comment I feel fairly strongly that education is a cornerstone of a country and society benefits when there is a robust education system. Therefore, even if the approaches or views on education are totally different in each country it is important to try to compare this aspect. The PISA rankings are based on an international standard assessment covering performance in a range of topics (Science, Math, reading, problem solving, and financial literacy) - hence it is not assessing the education system itself but rather the output of that system. It is a fairly robust approach to international comparison. IMO the cost of higher education and the completion rates are also objective comparisons (university rankings are less so). I am not sure I totally understand your second point but I appreciate your overall comment. Thanks, Alex
