As a Certified FNP, Your previous videos encouraged me to go back to school and start Psych program with the goal of open my own practice. I should be done in December. I am just thrilled to hear all the opportunities this dual degrees can bring to me. I am also a DNP and MPH. I would love to connect with you if you are not opposed. Thank you 🙏 for all your videos. Like you said, the monetary gains might not be much, but I think it's always a wise investment to invest in your own knowledge base, especially if you'll be gaining useful knowledge that will enhance your current practice/career. As more healthcare providers become employees, it looks like more expensive overcredentialing at practitioner's expense of money and time, and often debt: CRNA program went from master's to doctorate this year. NPs are moving to doctorate in 2025. PTs need a doctorate. This is unsustainable.

@AggiBlessed
@AggiBlessed Жыл бұрын
With PA, you will need MD collaboration for independent private practice while with NP you can have full practice in multiple states with no MD collaboration needed. MD collaboration comes with high cost and it's own set of issues. PA don't have full practice. He has his own private practice.

I've been watching your videos over the last month or so really trying to decide between FNP vs PMHNP. I really want to focus on adults with depression and anxiety. I've concluded that I can treat these people as a FNP without having to do a PMHNP program. I would of course continually take yearly ceus, courses on anxiety and depression. Would you agree? What are your thoughts?

New nurse (dual bachelors one in Nusing one in Biology) here working at a short term residential mental health institution for adolescents (Newport Academy). I am enjoying it(so far) or at least not hating the work I am doing. I am looking at schools in and around Minnesota for FNP and subsequently PMHNP (dual NP) that I can attend while working. I am looking to get my Masters not Doctors because it seems cheaper and most health organizations aren't worried about the difference unless they are hiring someone to work in an administrative position, which I am not interested in anyways. Have you heard anything good or bad about any online programs? Have you heard anything good or bad about University of North Dakota or Mount Marty University in South Dakota. I've been told FNP first then PMHNP is the most efficient way to do it (Dual NP). Let me know your thoughts?

the thing I wonder about is the increased liability of being dual certified? Wouldn't you be held to a different standard treating a psych pt, and maybe not addressing medical conditions because you also have the FNP?
@LifeofaPsychNP

I thought about this as well but I’m going based on what the job description says or what your job title is. Not entirely sure tho

@@LifeofaPsychNP definitely something to look into. I'd hate to have a psych visit, do a ROS and the patient mentions some sort of heart issue. A few months later getting sued by the pt for not addressing the heart issues "because I told them and they are an FNP"...
@LifeofaPsychNP
@LifeofaPsychNP 2 жыл бұрын
@@djxpress understandable but at the same time FNPs aren’t held to treat psych even tho they have psych issues. Plus we don’t even have to do ROS anymore for billing if using MDM in the outpatient setting
@djxpress
@djxpress 2 жыл бұрын
@@LifeofaPsychNP they aren't held to treat psych because they aren't PMHNPs. But I would hedge my bets that dual certified FNP/PMHNPs are held to a different standard. Same goes for PMHNP/FNPs. Since both are dual certified, they most likely need to address both areas if the patient brings it up.

I’m a new subscriber and I have been watching your videos and it’s extremely informative and inspired me to become a Psych NP. I am currently in nursing school and interested in becoming a mental health nurse and move up and continue my education after I get some experiences under my hand. 1. My question is I’ve had a difficult upbringing and have been constant denied of mental illness and ever since it has become a passion for me to go towards that area. Would it be frown upon if you have diagnosis of anxiety, depression, Adhd…. ( should I be saying this?) Like does it effect my abilities to go down that road? 2. I want to be a travel nurse and take advantage of my youth before settling down/family etc. what could that look like travel mental-health nurse? Has anyone shared their/or your experiences if this is worth trying ? I’m a new student, so I feel hesitant to ask these “silly questions”, I’m in an accelerated BSN program and feel like the pressure is on and wondering if I was in a RN program would’ve been better or?

I hope you are making great progress in your journey! I am currently pursuing my PMHNP. I understand a certain degree of insecurity around having certain mental disorders while pursuing a career in mental health. In my opinion, you can look at it as an added perspective on mental health. You can understand the perspective of a patient and the perspective of a provider. If this is something that is getting in the way of you feeling worthy or eligible to provide mental health care, I would suggest speaking with a counselor or therapist to help unpack that. Each nurse brings a unique contribution to the nursing practice. If you are passionate about nursing, we need your contribution too!
