I'm also an FNP going back to add the PMHNP. For me, it's for the flexibility and job security. I've worked in a psychiatric setting most of my adult life, so I'm excited to specialize a bit

Hi there sorry to sound nosy, but I’m also exploring these options as well and I’m wondering if it’s costly to get a postmaster certificate? I’m currently in a psych MHNP program and I’m struggling because I’ve always had more of a passion for physical diseases, but I’m kind of passionate about both
@amandalangworthy7162
@amandalangworthy7162 4 ай бұрын
@breklein3338 it's getting more common for NPs to have both the Family and PMHNP certifications. Some of the courses for the first master's course should count towards the second one.

I would love for you to make a video about why you went back to school to get the PMHNP when you were already a DNP FNP. I’m a BSN RN applying to a dual concentration BSN to DNP program. The dual concentration is FNP and PMHNP. I am worried about PMHNP because my background is in surgery, urology, primary care, and quality. So I am not sure it is for me, but there are no FNP jobs in my area. This area is super saturated with FNP’s and CRNA’s as well. So, with only an FNP I would literally have to drive an hour or more one way to work daily. I definitely have less than zero interest in driving for work! I know I can teach and work at admin level with DNP but those jobs are also scarce. So, I think PHMNP is definitely something I want to do in addition to the DNP FNP.

Would love to learn more about your transition between FNP to PMHNP; I am a FNP considering doing the same. Do you think your experience as a FNP informs your practice as a PMHNP? Was there a large learning curve starting as a PMHNP? What would you identify as pros and cons of FNP vs PMHNP, at least from your perspective?

taking care of persons suffering from mental illness can be draining...they deserve people who can weather the storm and advocate for them in and outside of the hospital/office...if you are considering entering the mental health field for your selfish reasons like scheduling or the pay...then stay the h*** out of the mental health field...they don't need you
