For those in the area and market - I just saw someone in Broken Arrow OK, an apparent non-rider, on FB Marketplace today selling a 2022 Rebel 500 for $1500. Dent on the gas tank and "probably needs a battery." Even if you gotta put a little work in on it, probably aren't going to beat $1500.

I've been watching your videos for a long time man, I absolutely LOVE this content you've been putting out for years; I come from a Harley Family so my brothers and I have been always thinking that Harleys were our way to go, queue to like, 3 years ago when you put that 300 versus 500 video and i've been watching every now and again when you post and subscribed later on because you kept popping up in my recommended. anyways, I just wanted to say that i'm really thankful for you man and I kid you not, today, when i've been searching for a deal on a rebel 500 with abs showed up, i felt something in me that was like, "go for it" and I went to the bank, talked with my financial advisor, and i bought the bike today! Long message but, all in all, I appreciate you for all the content you make Burch, can't wait to watch your videos AGAIN and learn again from videos you've already posted for mods for the rebel 500

Back in 2017 I was looking at the Rebel for a first bike. The transmission case sticking out on the 500 was a deal killer. I went with the 300, but that single thumper vibrated like an industrial paint mixer. I thought the bike was going to vibrate apart. Sold it after one summer. But it was great to learn on. Very easy to ride.

Really good video for newer riders and the benefits of Honda's varied 500cc platform over the last 8 years or so. The one thing I thought of, and this could really be it's own video, is bar selection. You got into it a bit with the ergonomics with Nina's seat and riser adaptations. As part of the ergonomics, bar selection is huge and can introduce newer riders to all the types, adjustments but also how on some bikes, the bars might hit their legs or the tank in ways that are uncomfortable especially on slow speed maneuvering. I lean toward the SCL too as I started on dual-sports, buying my first bike at 14, I think it's completely normal to not be flat-footed but it helps that I grew to be a touch over 6 feet, I still miss the challenge I had as a kid. @11:05 but as Nina points out, plenty of people HATE that, I'm pleased she got some great aftermarket goodies for her bike to make it her own.

As someone who started on the Rebel 500, I went with a CB500X when they did the mid-model upgrade with better suspension/brakes because I liked the motor/power. I haven’t ridden an SCL500 but the Rebel is a little too low and close for me and my hips/back hurt after half an hour of riding it. I have spent a little time at the dealer sitting on it and the SCL500 just feels like a halfway point between the CB and the Rebel. The CB500X is definitely taller and for me much more comfortable, even on days I’ve spent several hours on it. Oddly, with the same motor on those two as well, the stock exhaust on both sound nearly the same. And at lights when my wife and I are riding side by side, they will fall into sync and sound like twins. So I feel like the aftermarket exhaust highlights those slight differences.

Hands-down picking the SCL for the size/ride position. My ONLY hold up is the lack of storage options like you mentioned. I'm use to my Honda Trail w/ a big tail box full of camping supplies and tools. Trail tops out at 50MPH for me, so I need a larger/faster option for when I don't NEED all that storage. Hopefully getting an SCL by next year. Gives it some time to get a few more add-on options I hope.

I think the ergonomics of how you fit on the bike when you are riding is more important than if you can flat foot the bike at a stop light. The engine is the same, but aside from the cat, I'm pretty sure the cams are different too. Can't find the exact specs on the cams, but the OEM part numbers are different. That might explain slightly different power figures and sound.
@LifeOfBurch
@LifeOfBurch 18 күн бұрын
Yea it looks like the SCL shares cams with the CB’s and not the Rebel. Interesting that Honda wouldn’t make note of that anywhere. All they say is the SCL is “Featuring the hugely popular and always-ready-to-deliver Rebel 500-based engine”. You’d think they’d word that differently if those cams made any difference 🤔
@_nopestr
@_nopestr 18 күн бұрын
@@LifeOfBurch Maybe marketing decided the difference is not that important. And yes, the gearing is different - rear sprocket on the SCL is one tooth larger. Rear tire circumference is pretty much the same, so it's not for that. Oh, and the intake is different too.

Hehe, I just realized.. we need an SCL650 that has a 6gal fuel tank, and either a highly fuel efficient twin, OR a beefed up for reliability single cylinder like a XR650 has. If there was an SCL650 with a proper fuel tank size for "scrambling"/lightweight ADV style trips, Honda would have a true contender to rival the KLR650.
@LifeOfBurch
@LifeOfBurch 18 күн бұрын
There are a lot of bikes that I could see being compared to the SCL500…and I can’t say that I’d imagine either the XR650 or the KLR650 ever being on that list 😂 It would be rad to see an SCL with the Transalp’s new 750 though I think! 😳
@MotoDash1100
@MotoDash1100 18 күн бұрын
@LifeOfBurch oooh there ya go. And yeahno, SCL500 and KLR650 don't compare head to head at all. But same reasons to like the KLR650 can be found (almost) in an SCL500, seat height, LED headlight, high mounted exhaust, decent-enough ground clearance, quiet when idling, and dead reliable (I think SCL500 runs the Rebel 500 engine just tuned differently, I might be wrong though). But really.. I just want Honda to release a bike with EFI, 5+ gal fuel tank, and NOT 1000cc+ heavy bike like Africa Twin. So hey.. a road-oriented version of the XR650L engine but with EFI and a decent fuel tank size and hey... KLR650 finally has true competition. (T7 is not in same price market, XR650L last I checked still runs a carb, DR650 runs a carb, and iirc none of those bikes have 6 gallon fuel tank stock)

Considering things like the headlight/blinkers or taillights aren't gonna make/break a consideration towards a purchase being that buyer's seem to wanna change the blinkers/tail package a lot of the time. As for the headlight, I'd prefer the old style & then if I'm changing to LED it's gonna be less on the electrical system. IDKnow this but when a manufacturer installs LED's from the factory using a lot less amperage in the system I think they might give you a smaller alternator to cut some costs? Anyone know if this happens w/ the large Motorcycle Corporations? I like the "bobber" look but if ya change that rear fender & get into rain I'd hate the wet ride you might get? Or if I had bikes like you, falling from heaven... lol, I'd ride my Scrambler on sunny days only, yeah!
@LifeOfBurch
@LifeOfBurch 18 күн бұрын
Interesting points! I’d never thought about the possibility of how different the electrical systems could be on the gen 1 vs gen 2 because of the LED’s 🤔 But yea, any of the fender-less bikes are reserved for days where the forecast says 100% sunny!! 😂

I actually came across some boys who found that out & they had to purchase stronger electrical components to power the stuff they wanted but that made me wonder b/c Manufacturers will cut anywhere they can & since an LED setup uses a lot less electric/amps I can see them using an alternator that just produces what it needs?? I digg the shows even though I ask strange cH!T..... ya'll be safe out there & I'll see ya next time, Lord willing!

Buy the scl500. Between a rebel 300 or 500 the 500 isn’t worth the extra cost for 10 mph more top speed, and is just a compromise since the rebel 1100 has been out.

Rebel 300 top speed is 86mph and rebel 500 top speed is 96, my bad 10 mph top speed difference. Again the juice isn’t worth the squeeze. At the end of the day the rebel is in its best form as a 300 or 1100.

@@dinospumoni8860 I’m not sure where those stats are from, but that’s still just not true though lol the Rebel 500 will do over 100mph and has SUBSTANTIALLY more power getting up to highway speeds than the 300.
