Blacked out look is really good, but the loss of reflectors is scary. BLACK REFLECTIVE sticker sheets would be a great choice on those forks. This material is black all day and reflective in dark. Comes in many colors, even orange. The technology is really cool (3M, VFLUO) and you've seen it on tractor trailers (the red and white stripes). The reflective sticker is actually better than the plastic reflectors since it shines at all angles. Solid colors are cheap, but there are many cool options (I have reflective Union Jack flags on my Triumph). Someone also mentioned reflective tape for the rims, which is available in black as well. Look for pre-cut helmet reflector kits to blend into your brain bucket artwork. Stay safe! Thanks for the great videos!

Hey, fellow SCL500 owner here! I can confirm that the bike works great for 2-up riding, at least with the stock exhaust. The heat shielding did a good job, so my backpack's legs never got overheated, and the bike handled well both in the twisties and on the highway. Took her out for like 2 hours and the only complaint was a bit of tush soreness lol

Love what you did with the forks! Smart move. But everytime I look at that bike, my eyes are drawn to the fugly headlamp. It looks like Honda stole the idea from Porsche...and I hate projector LEDs anyhow. If it was me, I would put a vintage-style headlamp on there. In fact, my '82 Nighthawk 450 came with a fugly LED, and that's exactly what I did -- replace it with a stock-style halogen. Not only does it look better (to me), it also provides more visibility (due to surface area) to oncoming drivers. I nearly took out a Harley once because I couldn't see his crappy little LEDs!

Could you do a comparison or ‘verses’ between this bike vs Rebel. I imagine a long ride of 400miles would kinda suck on this bike vs Rebel 500 but would be much more fun for local runs on the SCL?
@LifeOfBurch Жыл бұрын
Yea I’ve definitely been throwing that idea around. Only thing that sucks is it’s been so long since I’ve spent any time on a Rebel 500 that I’d really be drawing from memory. Honestly though I’d take this over a Rebel 500 all day everyday for any occasion! If for no reason other than the suspension and seating position/space. I could leave this bike stock and do a 400 mile trip fresh out of the dealership, but I wouldn’t fathom doing that on a Rebel 500 without upgrading the seat and rear shocks first, and maybe even highway pegs given my lankiness lol

I haven’t minded the stock suspension so far, but if a good alternative comes out I’ll definitely consider it! The front suspension gets a bit bouncy over certain surfaces so I think I’d be more interested in an upgrade for the front if anything.

Surprised you didnt grab some black adjustable brake and clutch levers.
@LifeOfBurch Жыл бұрын
That’s definitely in the plans, but I haven’t seen any specific to the CL500 yet. The brake lever part number matches the CB500 lineup, but the clutch lever matches the new Groms. So I’d need to buy two different sets of levers and use a lever from each if I wanted to do it right now.

It’s hard to tell on camera, but this orange color is really deep, has a lot of flake, and changes color depending how the light hits it. So trying to come close to matching it with vinyl would be dang near impossible.

Hey Burch! Do you feel like the throttle has a lot of "roam" before it actually starts working? I test rode a cl500 this friday and really enjoyed it, but I had to roll my wrist a lot for the throttle to engage. Felt very weird. On my rebel 1100 there's basically no "roam" on the throttle, I move it and it engages immediately. Not sure if it was an issue with that specific cl500, or if it's normal.

Cool video. I'm thinking about trading in my Rebel 1100cc DCT for this bike in the green color. I got 14,500 miles on my Rebel and got tired of it. I think I want something smaller lighter and more nimble. What do you think? Greetings from the Jersey shore.
@LifeOfBurch Жыл бұрын
They’re very different bikes, so I think the most important thing would be making sure that the scrambler style is something you’ll actually enjoy and will work for your riding style. And also making sure that you won’t miss the Rebel’s power. The scrambler is absolutely perfect around town and in the twisties, but once you hit the highway you can immediately tell how much less power it has compared to the 1100. It’ll do highway just fine, don’t get me wrong, but compared to the 1100 you can tell it’s rung out cruising at speed. It’s extremely nimble though and can handle any terrain you throw at it which makes it an incredible do-it-all commuter I think. The seating position, although very different, feels more spacious than the Rebel since you can slide around on the bench seat however you want. The clutch is also extremely light so it’ll be an easy transition from DCT. Hope that helps!

I'd rather add color than black things out. What's with a certain generation de-chroming motorcycles? IMO Honda should have chromed (or painted) the fenders like they did with the Monkey for a proper retro look. Then I suppose we'd just see a lot of videos of guys taking flat black spray paint and undoing that.

Those JDM bars/grips are too narrow for a man’s hand but good for dainty hands and limp wrists! I love the leather grip wraps from Trip Machine (look awesome, add girth and padding for man-sized hands), are hand made from premium materials, and install easily over stock grips. (Thicker grips alleviate the “death grip” and remember, the more relaxed the grip, the smoother the ride and easier control). Here are two more cents for you: I’d throw on a pair of hooligan-looking (befitting to a scrambler) hand guards that bolt into the stock mirror mounts. Gotta be orange though … or yellow, orrr upto you chef! Lastly, bar end mirrors are nice. But If your budget allows, check out the Rizoma collection. Their high level engineering and manufacturing processes are simply superior to anything offered by the Made in China bargain market. Or if you’re a true connoisseur, check out the no-glass mirrors from Motogadget, they are one-step-beyond! 👍🏼
