Steph, loads of prayers have been said throughout each day since this happened. My heart goes out to you and your family who loves you so dearly. When my kids were close to the age of your kids, I fell and shattered a disk in my back requiring back surgery. Our kids stepped up when Mike was at work. Our oldest daughter helped me get dressed and undressed and get onto and off of the toilet. When Mike broke almost the entire length of his femur from his hip to his knee, everyone stepped up when he came home from the hospital, including our neighbor helping Mike out of the car, up the front steps and into the house. What I am saying is "it takes a village" to get thru difficult times. Never hesitate asking for help. This includes asking for help with the farm chores Brandon. It may be quite a while before you can drive Stephanie. Keep your wrist elevated by adjusting the strap of the sling. that will help keep the swelling to a minimum, which helps lessen the pain. Make sure you have some icepacks you can keep in the freezer...reusable icepacks. Ice onto the cast will cool down the cast and help with the sweating inside the cast and help the swelling and pain. We learned that when Mike broke and dislocated his wrist and elbow. I want you to benefit from us learning the hard way. With loads and loads of prayers, love, and gentle hugs for you sweet Stephanie and the whole wonderful family. I am also praying for your surgical/medical team to take care of you perfectly. Stephanie, just take it easy after surgery. Things may not be done to your standard, but everything important will get done. The animals and family will get fed, though it may throw your grocery budget way out of whack . The kids will get to school and activities, even if you have to help Brandon remember everything. Thanksgiving is coming. Not sure what your traditions are with your family, but you need to be relieved of major cooking responsibilities. By Christmas you will be almost healed, but time for the oldest kids to step up and help more. My mother had to have an operation the summer I was 16 and I learned to do laundry and cook and do all the housework, even though I had one older brother living at home and dad. I remember making baked potatoes in the oven and they were hard as a rock. No microwaves in 1973. I never did figure out what I did wrong with the potatoes. But when microwave ovens came out, I was married and we got one, about 1981. They were really expensive, like more than we were paying for rent.
