Rosco, I'm afraid your are in what I call "the project never, never" where the last 20% of the project takes 80% of the time. Hang in there, you are doing a great job and I'm enjoying watching your videos.

I recommend recharging the house batteries by sailing - alternators engaged with the prop shaft, motor disengaged. Takes some planning and building, but it gives you electric power for free and you can keep batteries topped off even if they aren't monstrously big (and heavy, and expensive).

Could you direct the fridge condensate directly overboard via a through hull fitting? Connecting drain to a black water tank may open a can of worms later on. Love the show!

Ross , it's so great to see and hear the excitement in your voice. All the planning and cussing is really paying off and the boat is really coming togeather. Where has your better half been? It makes for a great video when Janet filmed keeping you in line. God bless and the boat looks amazing.

For more than a year I ran my standard yanmar Valero 120 amp alternator charging my LiFePo4 batteries on my cat. I fitted Victron Bluetooth temp/ voltage sensors to the alternators to see what was happening with them. I found on startup the alternator generally put our about 70 amps but the temp started increasing quite rapidly and after about 10 minutes the temp of the alternator was sitting at 70 degrees and the amps backed down to 35 amps. This remained consistent like this and the temperature remained the same. I was happy with this and did no further mods.

Donating $20 for someone to hide a squeeky toy somewhere under the floorboards when Ross isn't looking! Looks good though! One thing to maybe consider, I would be extremely reluctant to have a sewer gas path from my blackwater tank to my food refrigeration personally. I think i'd rather have it drain to the bilge to remove the possibility of infection traveling up the tube over the years.

Love the design philosophy of access all areas and the access being as large as possible. Easy maintenance that way. Also love that everything possible is totally integrated into adding strength to the boat. It all adds up eh.

Rossco, I really enjoyed your detailed explanation of the alternator mods you installed. But I would think that a single 90A alternator would be plenty to keep charged a couple of AGM starter batteries. Under normal circumstances those Yanmar 3 cylinder engines are easy to start and aren't going to be draining those start batteries. I would think that a charge controller could either split the charge current to each battery simultaneously or split the charge time between the two batteries to get those batteries topped off in 20 minutes or less. The charge status could be monitored manually as well and if they weren't topped up, then you could just leave the engines run a little longer. If this is viable then you would have 3 alternators devoted to the house bank and those are the ones that will need it most. Will there be a way of manually switching the output of the alternators to what ever batteries you wanted, if you wanted to put all 4 of them to the house bank? How about using the house bank to start the engines if something happens to the start batteries? Can you start both engines on the same start battery? After one engine is started from that one battery, it is being charged and you really aren't risking too much by starting the other engine with that same battery. You just bump the RPMS up a bit to produce more current to the other engine starter. Love the wiring job your family has done and Janet's glasswork is already proven! If you drain the condensate into the brown water tank this is just a reminder that you'll need to incorporate a small trap in the line that fills with the condensate and blocks the escape of the odors coming up from the tank into the boat.

Just saying as a fridgy. That condensing unit will need adequate cooling. So that access needs to be a large louvred area or you will be buying a new compressor when it cooks itself.

Dry bulge is the way to go as you can see if you have any leaks are issues. How much more power does the new alternator’s make? I missed that bit, or is it a case of a smoother output voltage for the house batteries? Did you say an air condenser? I have never known such a thing, normally liquid compressed.

Rosco, any possibility of handling condensate the same way frost free refrigerators do? They take the water and drop it into a plastic pans that sit on top of the condensing coils. The heat from the coils evaporates the water into the air.

If the compressor is above the waterline could you just plumb the itty bitty condensate line to one of the thru hull fittings hoses? Or a one way check valve?

If you plumb the drain from the fridge to the black water is there any concern of smells or contamination into the fridge?
@LifeOnTheHulls
@LifeOnTheHulls 2 жыл бұрын
Interesting thread. I would imagine there are many issues with back contamination. I have been toying with the idea of a secondary sump as our air conditioner will needs its own as it produces quite a deal of condensate.Rossco

@rl3898
@rl3898 2 жыл бұрын
@@LifeOnTheHulls I think the second sump is a much better idea. There is no back contam from the condenser drain to the freezer interior , that's dumb ! BUT the freezer chest often needs a drain too so there is a need for a trap between it and a second sump thats also getting AC drain and condenser drain, and then pumped out through an above water line fitting.
@larrygawne3529
@larrygawne3529 2 жыл бұрын
Are you going to have a problem if you drain the AC water into a black tank. At sea no issue, but at dock side if level gets high you can not pump out. Just a thought, have RV and waste water is always an issue.
