Sweet looking battery. I've had SUPER good luck with ac delco agm batteries and I highly recommend them. Optima batteries have gone down hill after 2008/2009 they just don't last. They used to be a bad ass battery but no longer unfortunately. Thanks for another great video it looks like that battery fit like a glove and great advice with the rubber mat. When you start smelling burning hair you know what it is 😮

I’ve heard about the optima’s going down hill over the years, I got a deal on this one back then so I ran with it. For the price difference between a good agm and this, it’s not that much more honestly. Although with the prices of everything, I’m tempted to go back to horse and buggy but can’t afford that either 😝

Inflation is off the charts; regardless of what media says. And batteries basically last 3 years nowadays; I remember when we could get batteries with 7 yr warranties. This one now starts and runs like a champ!

I couldn’t agree more…. Ot sucks how much things cost right now. Sure makes life difficult for many. Down here in the heat, most batteries only last 2 years on average, 3 if you’re lucky. I also remember back in the day batteries lasted longer and had better warranties.

Hey man, This certainly sounds like a futuristic battery. You did mention one thing about putting rubber over your battery. I've been doing this for years. I use 4mm rubber. You don't want someone sitting on top of your battery who is a wee bit tuby and your seat springs touch. 🔥 So thanks again for the video ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.

Hey man! Definitely not the typical lead acid battery lol Ever since I brought home jawbreaker I’ve always had a rubber mat over the battery just in case. It’s the simple things that help prevent issues down the road. Hope all is well my friend 🤙

An update on my old 40 project. started testing and cleaning long block items that need to go on and found the carb I got for this out of the pile of parts the guy had is an old 36hp carb. I guess the difference between the Solex 28 PIC and PIC-1 is one is manual choke and the other which the 1965 40hp took was an auto choke. I kind of like the manual ones so may keep it around at least for testing this motor when running it down the road.

I believe it will as well. I plan on selling it eventually as a stock motor and then move on to picking up the Corvair engine a guy has waiting on me to pick up. Next year's project. Can't wait, 6 cylinder air-cooled. Oh, my niece's husband has his 66 up for sale 15,000. wish i could share a picture but it's show car cool. Only reason he is selling it is due to possibly being laid off soon. bummer

As the battery charges, the amperage stays the same from empty to full, which means the alternator can become quite hot. With the lead acid batterys, the amperage drops as the battery charges. I would think a 60A alternator would be able to keep itself cool at that amps though.
@VWJawbreaker4 ай бұрын
That’s a good point Paul. I’ve been running it now for about a month and haven’t noticed any issues in voltage, amperage or temps so far. I’ve been watching both the battery and alternator.
@Sylvan_dB4 ай бұрын
Try one of the old fashioned load testers (that have a high current heater inside and a momentary button you press and hold to see the voltage sag on the analog meter). I find those will detect marginal batteries a lot more reliably. Of course, for any battery test it needs to be fully charged. Even 12.4 volts is a bit low. Normally on that AGM I'd expect it to be 12.8 and a normal flooded battery to be 12.6. Both those are after sitting for a day or so after being fully charged.
@VWJawbreaker4 ай бұрын
@@Sylvan_dB I agree, those old style testers work much better. I did another test later and it showed weak even after a full charge. Being the batter is 5 years old, I’m shocked it’s still going as long as it did.

@VWJawbreaker4 ай бұрын
The battery charges just like the other batteries since it has a battery management system integrated into the battery. Your generator or alternator will charge the battery but if you need to use a battery charger you’ll need to get one that does lithium batteries.
@RJLM3304 ай бұрын
@@VWJawbreaker that’s the part I missed about the integrated battery management I’ll need to see if my present ones have that selection.

I'm curious, if in storage for a long while (few months over winter, etc.) will this need a trickle charger like lead acid batteries, or does it act like a Li-Ion yard tool battery and hold power well while dormant?
@VWJawbreaker4 ай бұрын
All batteries will self discharge but at different rates. These will hold a charge better than a lead acid battery. Best to disconnect the battery if it’s going to sit for a long period of time. Also a lithium battery needs a different charger than a lead acid battery if you need to charge it.

those batteries can go on their side so maybe an even smaller one on it's side whould be ok. lithium motorbike bateries can go anywhere, even upside down.

The battery website says "Operate Temperature: Charge: 0~C+60C". Does that mean it will only charge in temps above 32F? I live in the Northeast.
@VWJawbreaker4 ай бұрын
Yes and no. The battery management system won’t allow the battery to charge if it’s too cold. However being in a vehicle where the cab will warm up or even in an engine compartment, you should t have an issue. That’s mostly for people using lithium batteries for solar setups. It would be best to reach out to them and ask their tech support for further information.
