Considering the amount of destroyed life pods I think we need to rename them. So far the only one we have found intact is ours. That's a bit of a quality control issue if you ask me.
Devs Discription:
Descend into the depths of an alien underwater world filled with wonder and peril. Craft equipment, pilot submarines and out-smart wildlife to explore lush coral reefs, volcanoes, cave systems, and more - all while trying to survive.

@@JT-qc9nb To be fair fully-loaded reactor has huge capacity. even just 16 acid mushrooms will provide like 3000 energy - 100 minutes of scanning, which is probably enough for anything. On top on 500 energy battery. And it can be powered up again with ease. I just multipurposely plant some marblemelons - for emergency food, water and energy supply in the outpost. Overall its just fastest way to power up small base without geotermal energy sources or some cheezy stuff. But ngl, Francis solution is funny.

Best way of describing Francis' playstyle is batch processing. He will either do lots of prep work and/or industrialization to do one thing really well. Cloeset analogy is a CNC operator. When using CNC machines, most of the work is in preproduction. You take a 3d model and break it up into subcomponents if nessecary. Then you program the pathing, tool changes, object manipulation, etc. Once programming is done, you verify that the program is good by making a single part step by step; making sure it doesn't crash into the part/walls, not making unnecessary cuts, the part is in spec, etc. Essentially debugging but with physical tools. Debugging alone can take hours nvm design and programming stages. Once you're sure everything is good, you can effectively let the machine run itself without much intervention, batching out parts.

Love the series. Haven't met striders in my first playthrough. A few more suggestions The scanner room grid is a really cool idea. But I kind feel like having it persistently installed is a bit of a waste of effort. The main thing to scan for are fragments and those don't respawn, so you can install the scanner, pick all the fragments and then deconstruct it and build it at the next location. There is a case to be made for finding resources, but I feel like most resources in this game are fairly easy to find once you know where to go for them. Pretty sure you found at least one cyclops upgrade on the Aurora. Check your inventories. Can't recall if it was power efficiency or depth upgrade, but you have one. Cyclops truly is a packrat heaven. You build crapton of storage, fabricator, radio, medkit and some plant pots with plants that give you both food and hydration points. Like bulb trees or melons. Do not install a filtration machine, it will eat your batteries. And suddenly you have a base you can move around in. He is a fat boy and driving cyclops in narrow places is a bit of a chore, but external cameras on it help a lot with that.

Have fun with the cyclops. just be sure to keep a few spare powercells is storage so you wont get stranded without battery in the deep. maybe build some bases with recharging stations as a sort of refueling station. I high recommend building a mini-base in every geothermal vent. a geothermal power plant + fully upgraded scanner + 3x powercell chargers + plants for emergency food and water make for a great outpost. and its easy to haul materials with the cyclops. You can build in the Cyclops, maybe plant some food/water plants? if your base is too deep and theres no geothermal you always have bioreactor to fall back on. you dont have to go to the solar tower. Fragments do respawn. if you want new fragments you never seen try exploring other biomes. Cyclops act as save points, like bases.

Love the series FJ! It's fun seeing you discover all this stuff in game. About the scanner grid: a hex grid of scanners is a bit more efficient for densely packing circles(think packing soda/beer cans into a fridge/cooler). If you wanted efficient 100% coverage, you could go with a hex pattern of scanners with each scanner exactly 866m from its immediate neighbors. A side bonus of that is it's easy to triangulate the exact spot of all scanners beyond the second; just find the spot that is 866 meters away from two other adjacent beacons and you are good to go! But it would be a fair bit of work to redo, and mess up your naming/coordinate system. Probably not worth the effort but if you *really* wanted to absolutely, 100% strip mine this world, that might be how you do it XD. (The math for the value of 866 is a bit tough to explain without pictures. Basically, drawing lines between three adjacent scanners in a hex grid makes a triangle with equal side lengths. We want to solve the length of those sides while we have 100% coverage. For 100% coverage, we want to draw a circle around each scanner in the triangle for its range, and we want all 3 circles to intersect on the midpoint of the triangle; that way there's no space between them. If we make a (smaller) right triangle between one scanner(S), the midpoint of the triangle where all scanners intersect(I), and the midway point between two scanners(M), we know the angle MSI is 30 (it's half of one of the angles of the original triangle, which are 60 since it's equilateral), and we know the edge SI is 500m. From that we can use trigonometry and sohcahtoa to solve either cos(30) = x/500 -> x = 500*cos(30), or use the properties of a 30/60/90 triangle to know the long non-hypotenuse edge is 250*√3; both evaluate to 433. Twice that is the distance between scanners :).)

A 3x3 primary grid should be sufficient if memory serves. As for the leviathan class creatures people said you should have encountered earlier. They only live in deep sea and in the areas north, south and east of the aurora. You coming to the aurora from the west explains why you didn’t meet them until recently. A little tip about the scanner room: It can only scan for stuff you've 'seen': ie. been near. building one won't magically allow you to find everything of interest in the area. If you went past something valuable however, the room will then be able to scan for it and you can go back to it. As to the aurora, the whole insides is one area connected to both exits. you could have gone up and further on and ended up in the prawn bay. I'd recommend scanning for wrecks instead of data boxes. Those will be the big chunks of the aurora that you can swim around and inside to find various bits and bobs. They don't always have data boxes lieing around the place so you could miss a few wrecks that don't have those if you only scan for data boxes.

"Can I build stuff in here?" Oh boy, it may appear to be huge, but it does not have the room to hold everything that you want, only what you need, in a minimalist way. 1 or 2 plant pots for food, lots of storage lockers, modification station, fabricator, radio, first aid, bed. It's usually advisable to carry around, in the cyclops, enough materials to build a basic base, including power cell chargers, as they consume more power than they refill when installed in the cyclops. Nice idea with the scanner rooms, however, the wrecks are the places to find new tech, specifically databoxes. Scattered around the wrecks is also the place to find fragments for tech you have not yet discovered, particularly the nuclear reactor and the various Prawn Suit Arms. I'm trying to avoid spoilers here, but, if you take a look at what materials are needed for the various cyclops and prawn suit upgrades, it would be beneficial to carry those in the cyclops, so that when you discover the missing materials, you can build the upgrades in the cyclops, without needing to return to your main base to do so. It may appear to be indestructible, but the cyclops can be destroyed surprisingly quickly, particularly by a determined predator. Those amp eels can be particularly troublesome, especially in tight quarters, my usual tactic involves zapping them with the stasis rifle, then just leaving them frozen in my wake. All predators are attracted by both sound, and light, so only use the floodlights in "safe" areas, and never use flank speed unless you want the engine to catch fire. Silent running can be useful, but it drains an awful lot of power. Important tip, the cyclops cameras are your friend, particularly the keel camera, in tight spaces, as you can continue to steer whilst using them. You appeared rather calm when you received the "hunting" message, a lot calmer than I was the first time I heard it, I barely left my base for days afterwards, what kind of sea creature can send radio messages to others of it's kind? The plot thickens. lol
@peterlyaskovsky1473

Cyclops becomes 200% safe as soon as engine is turned OFF. Using flank speed is a suicide, and noone sane should ever use it - any predator capable of damaging the sub is faster anyways and becomes more aggroed = exactly opposite effect. Ampeels and crabs do NOT damage the sub at all, just mess with onboard power for a few secs = you can just ignore the warning and keep swimming. For the rest we have stasis + thermoblade

Fun tip for the Seamoth. Each directional input held at the same time adds a bit of speed. If you hold forward (W) and right (D) you'll go faster than if you just hold forward, and even faster if you also hold up (Space). Takes a bit of practice to learn to drive with your ship pointed at odd angles to get where you want to go, but when you get the hang of it you're absolutely zooming.

The Jellyshroom caves Degasi base, Proposed Degasi Habitat (250m), has 2-3 more PDAs you missed. 15:26 Don't worry you only missed a Giant Wreck that has a lot of useful fragments. When you were circling did you ever look up? 31:08 If you read the Logs name it implies there is a "Lifepod 6 Crew Log #1" likely near by, lol. 47:49 Fun fact, if you sleep in a bed after starting searching for stuff in a scanner room it will "simulate" time passing. You have already stumbled on the power trick in your main base, started to copy it for the south outpost, and then undid it lol. When you were hopscotching the tubes to the surface, you can just attach a T section to the top of those and put solar panels on that. Even though they aren't directly connected because you deleted the pieces between them, the game still considers them one base and power is used for the whole structure. My games I never use the power transmitters.

A tip that you already found but may have missed: the moon pool can fast charge the power cells in a prawn suit in seconds vs the 5+ minutes or so for the wall charger. So you can fast charge the cyclops, just be careful about blacking out the base. Also the smaller ships will pull power from the cyclops power and it is power neutral.
