As for someone who does not have a Bsc or varsity degree in general , I'm forever grateful that I never gave up and taught myself on how to code and ended up in a BootCamp , one year later I'm now earning R20 000 net as a remote software engineer . next year I'm thinking of upgrading my matric and possibly unroll at unisa to study Bsc computer science ( I will be turning 26 this year)

@@liferesetwithbonihahaha thank you sis boni I'm a huge fan of you channel it's an inspiration to people out there to give them a glimpse on potential salaries on different career field and helps to stay motivated in life . Well yeah I could say that I'm bit smart (not a genius hahah) but lazy and procrastinate too much so when I recieved my matric results I got 50% in physics, life sciences and 40% in mathematics I never bothered to upgrade my marks and Instead I waste my life in the township partying and spending time with girls my friends... I started learning how to code in 2020 during COVID then in late 2021 around September I applied at Explore AI academy, got accepted and started January 2022 and I was there for a year until 2023 January.. I was lucky to get a job offer 3 months after completing my bootcamp.. so yeah now I'm focusing on upgrading my matric and study further I want to end up with a PhD one day 😊😊😊

I will never regret having studied Bsc Computer science (Computing at Unisa). That was one of the best decision I made in life. I did this degree while working as an Electronic technician(studied National dip Electrical Eng at Tshwane University of Technology). Bsc Computer science is a demanding degree but worth it. I'm now working as a Software developer(mid to senior level)

​@@thatomothoagae7939 it took me 5 years and 6 months because some of the semesters I couldn't write bcoz of work commitments. Also, I must underline that the engineering background really helped. I got credited 5 subjects. It's also important to note that one needs to spends time reading/exploring other resources to become good at software development. It's indeed a very good and exciting career.

Very worth it. I have a Honours degree in Computer Science from Wits, 6 years experience. Currently earning R1.3mil per year plus around 300k bonus. Take home is around 62k net. Most of my friends and peers who studied with me earn more or less the same. It’s a good area of study with many possibilities.

This is a much better option. I’m a software engineer who is self taught and have no degree and salaries are really good. She will also be able to freelance too and make extra money and she can even do this while she’s studying. The more stuff she builds for people before she gets a job, the better her chances of getting a job are. Experience and ability to learn well and work with people is more important than a degree but the degree can help her get into a graduate program which will boost her career 😊

That's if you're good at your job. Many people with qualifications that are apparently seniors who can't even pass a basic test. Yes you get tested in an interview. So bs'ing with papers and experience doesn't help. So no screwing around and thinking you'll come out on top. Hear of companies interviewing 50+ candidates who meet the requirements on paper but when tested know nothing My tip is learn learn and never stop learning. If you're good, you'll be fine out there

Can I just state that the 1 year experience junior software developer salary won't always be that high. If anything, solely depends as well on where you work as well. There are very few who touch that kind of salary as a junior, but gradually it increases, especially when you move around.

The problem with software developers I see in the market is that they do not have a real passion. Once you are done with your studies and go into the market you truly know nothing and need to put in a lof of effort to keep learning and improving. Even find people with 18 years exoerience with the same skills as a person with 3 yeears exp due to the latter having passion and the other in it just for money

AMC is a nice course but the applied maths component is every intense with a lot of advanced calculus, you have to stay committed and try to stay ahead. The course in general is very theoretical while BSc Computing has more emphasis on Software, Databases, etc. But coming from Chem Eng you should enjoy either one.

Not sure if I understand you when you say extended but here’s what you need. Matric with a Pass in Mathematics preferably 60% some will still take with 50% or you can opt to do maths modules that can give access CompSci. The degree starts off with 4 courses maths being the main one to pass then final you will have to do at least 2 courses, I.e computer Science with Maths(very difficult combination) or with Statistics or applied mathematics or physics or another course offered by that university. It’s a 3 year degree but most student don’t complete it in a record time due to prerequisite and yes AI is one of the modules. If you want Data science then Computer Science with Statistics is a good combination at third year

Also IT requires you study forever, currently post ur degree certification in Java/Data Science/Data Engineer/DevOps Engineer/Cloud Certified(AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google cloud, Alibaba cloud),full stack developer, etc… you can pursue Business Analysis then Project management which is still good preferred mostly by women perhaps be a developer for some years then move to business in case you don’t like technical work.

I just wonder, if on average a developer or software engineer makes 70k after tax and with inflation going up and say you want a new home or a new car. What is the point? You will find yourself taking a loan from the bank either way and be in their pockets for the rest of your life. I think it’s very easy to blame the new gen z generation for being lazy and quit quitting but what’s the point when they don’t have a decent purchasing power in SA and the world today.

I don’t think so on average. Yes it is high if you are senior but on average I’d say lower net value as to take home 70k most people would have to earn R120k CTC. The big money is made by the developers and professionals who contract their services out on an hourly basis rather than working full time.

CS degree jobs and other tech related jobs pay decent salaries, especially at intermediate and senior levels. We've seen the proof on this channel, over and over. @@liferesetwithboniThere are more young people living with their parents today I.e gen z generation. Personally the wages demanded doesn’t meet the standard of living in today’s society in your 20’s. I believe this is the reason people migrate and leave the money to work some place else since the government has failed to give most qualified South African’s a chance to buy decent homes and a opportunity to live better off. As for a CS major it has become a very over saturated industry today and if you want a job go for it but if you want that 7mil+ home forget about it. Would rather go into finance where the sky is the limit with insane salaries in hedge funds and CTO’s and CFO’s ext.
