I love seeing you cook on a wood stove. My grandmother used to tell temperature by putting her hand in the oven. Her baked goods were always perfect. A favorite memory is she would give this little girl a cup of coffee! Of course it was more cream and sugar than their strong farm coffee, but she always paired it with thickly sliced toast with home churned butter to dunk in that coffee. I still will make some buttered toast to dunk in sweet and blonde coffee in her memory once in a while, when I miss her. Thank you so much. You are such a delight to watch and listen to.

I always buy whatever beef or pork is on sale for stews or grinding up for ground beef or sausage. That way I know what's in it, how much fat, salt, etc., and I get the best price per pound. Plus, that way I know if they cut up old meat or ground up old meat....lol

Thank you for giving me comfort this past year. My daughter was taken from us by a drunk driver and some days my only peace is watching a couple cooking vlogs on youtube, yours being one of them. Years ago there was a comedian type woman. I believe her name was Peg Bracken (?). She had a comedy cookbook. My mom and I had copies of it. One of the recipes was called Stay In Bed Stew !! I looked her up with Siri. The book was the I Hate To Cook Book . From 1960. Her stew recipe was meat , veggies and tomato soup. You baked it a few hours in the oven. So you could squeeze in a lovely loooong nap ! It was SUPER good. Blessings from California. 🥩

My mom did me a huge favor. She and my dad left the house for work, not getting home until 6:30 every night. She would leave me instructions on a note pad on how to cook a meal every night Monday through Friday. So I’d get home from school, tidy the house, unload the dishwasher, start dinner and do homework. I did this from 13-17 years old. I learned to scratch cook this way. Soups, stews, spaghetti, Chile, chicken and dumplings and everything imaginable. All with little notes like 1)cut up an onion and brown in oil 2)add stew meat and brown and so forth. (My Dad was a butcher so we always had good meat.)To this day I cook without a recipe, knowing exactly how to cook from scratch. So lucky I learned this early in life. And wow what a great kid I was having dinner on the table every night. Haha being a teenager sometimes that dinner was burnt or undercooked since talking to my friends was more important but that’s ok I learned to multi task! (I too am shocked at the price of stew meat.)

I make cheddar buttermilk biscuits with rosemary in it. Soo good. Love them. Years ago when we first got married I had a great big wood stove in my first house. It didn’t have an oven but I’d make soups an stews on it. So good. You look like you’re plenty warm in the cabin with that stove goin’! My hubbies a big fisherman too. Love it and it’s good for him. One time the boat broke down over in a cove on the lake and they didn’t come home! All night I waited and prayed. When morning came we called the sheriff boat rescue to go searching for those crazy guys. Sure enough about 2-3 hours later here come a big tower with the boat. I was so relieved to see my husband! Added a few more gray hairs to my head! Stew looks yummy! God Bless you all! 🇺🇸

Today, was “clean out the veggie drawer” day, so, in the pot went a head of cabbage, the last of the potatoes and the last onions and carrots, I dug around in the freezer, found 4 smoked Turkey wings and my my homemade chicken and left over ham broth, (It took my biggest pot, but it is now simmering on the stove)...Not only does it smell yummy, but now my fridge is cleaned out for my Christmas Cooking and leftovers!... (And my January grocery shopping!) ....Most of today’s pot will be dropped off at my neighbors, (with everyone else having kids, being busy working and getting ready for Christmas... ....even with social distancing, that is going on) ....I will have a yummy supper, as well! .....I live alone now, with husband passed away, and kids all grown up and living in another state, but sometimes, I just miss cooking for other people every now and then! ...Nothing feels finer, in the winter, than a good ole’ pot of something yummy on the stove! Your good cooking always inspires me! Thank you, and Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to all!

Hey yall, from Kyle, TX (about 3-4 hours north/northwest of Houston--near Austin)! I've watched you both for the past approximate 8, 9 years. Just "stumbled onto" your channel to begin with. Lori was stirring up some kind of tube pan cake! I've never written you before. I know this mail takes much of your time. There is NEVER any need to respond to me! Admire you both for your convictions. I especially love "Pa Brown" for his Bible lessons! You can't be any more "on target" than when you learn from the Scriptures. As a couple, it seems to me you do so much for building up the scriptural concept of marriage as God desires from us. My husband, Carl, a GOOD MAN, is deceased (approx 7 years ago.) Prior to that he preached for the Lord's church for about 15 years, and served as an elder for the Dripping Springs TX church of Christ. As I watch almost everything on KZbin (I am 83 and that takes a lot of my time these days!) I never know how to subscribe except on TV! Is there a way to subscribe and "ring the bell" from the TV? I love your interplay with each other - it's easy and natural. You obviously are in love............and it sounds like you've trained your children well. I have 5 grands and (going on) 5 GREAT children! Just wait! God certainly has been good to us! Really, He's good to ALL of us (for example, Matt. 5:45) . I love that you're kind to animals and birds, eetc. I've copied and saved (mostly, these years) many of Lori's recipes - think I must be "country" at heart!!) I love things you make - and have TRIED MANY OF THEM! Have felt the need to contact you and say I'm one who watches and have watched you for a long time before I subscribed - on TV). "God Bless...Love you two!" Janice Garner 🐟🦈🌱🐕🐤🐣

My aunt always cooked on a wood stove. Everything tasted so much better and she never knew anything else until after my uncle passed. She was a really good cook.

Get yourself a bay laurel plant....probably hardy in your area. I have a bay plant in a big pot on my back patio. I get a fresh bay leaf anytime I need it. The fresh ones have more flavor than the dried.

My son trained as a meat cutter. He said the steak trimmings became stew meat. I buy bottom round roast, freeze it for a couple of hours, then cut it into small chunks for stew. I make my stew in my Instant pot. Merry Christmas!

I saw a few things in that shop that I would buy. I used to love to go antiquing, as we called it, but haven’t for quite a few years now. Your beef stew and biscuits look so delicious for sure.

Ms Lori you took the words right out of my 👄 . I was at the store yesterday and shared the exact same comment with another shopper how the price is jacked up merely because the butcher cut up the stew meat by several dollars. The taking advantage of customers in such a manner is simply outrageous. Occasionally I’ve added a cut up sweet potato to my stew as I enjoy the nice flavor it adds to the gravy. I’ve not yet tried a rutabaga in my stew but your addition of barley is something I definitely want to try. 😋

Beef stew is delicious and yes, beef here is expensive too. I learned something new about adding baking soda to flour for browning. Will have to try that next time. Thank you!

I wanted to tell you, I remodeled my bathroom, I really wanted a vessel sink, but I hated the modern looking sinks they had for a antique buffet I wanted to use as a cabinet, soooo I went to the flea, I found a old bread bowl, took it home sanded it on the inside, sealed it, had a hole drilled for a drain.. and walla... beautiful new sink for a old time bathroom.. my next one in the downstairs powder room, on a antique wash stand is going to be a old oval enameled dish pan, like the kind they used to use for a baby bath, I also found it at the flea market in great shape.. no chips, stains or rust..
