It’s never too late 🤗 I’ve always been terrible at romantic relationships. I have lived with a man in my early 20’s and I’m married now in my early 30’s (but it looks like we may be getting a divorce). I come from a very small family that is dying out because neither I nor my two cousins (who are all over 30) have kids nor want any. I do love my mother and my grandmother immensely, the rest of my relatives (there are very few) I don’t like or don’t know very well. The people who are everything to me are my friends. They are my family. We have been there for each other through deaths of family members, constant startings and endings of romantic relationships, financial problems, education and career ups and downs, health problems and so on. I often think about how much our society centers around romantic partnership: marriage, custody of children and all those things all center around having one romantic partner. But really the relationships I have invested in in my life are my friendships. I would gladly “marry” my best friends tomorrow and really mean it when I promise to love them always, and gladly tie all our assets together. I might even have been more positive to children if I lived with my friends and we raised them together. It’s the romantic relationships that don’t work for me, because I don’t really invest in them. The only reason I got married was because I was about to turn 30 and I felt like I was supposed to, but I was miserable immediately. Not because I don’t love him, but because my marriage makes me feel lonely. I honestly just want to be with my friends, they are the only people who make me happy. Friendships are so underrated in our society, and romantic relationships are put on such a pedestal, even though they usually end. Imagine if we lived in a culture that actually promoted investing in our friendships the way we do in our romantic relationships, I think people would be a lot happier. I have no idea how old you are but it is _never_ too late to build friendships with people. I hope you find this: it’s the best thing in the world ❤️
