This week on "The Appraiser," Colin sees a rough 1966 Mustang hot rod on the street and convinces the owner to subject it to an appraisal. It's the roughest car we've seen on the show yet and Colin is giddy with excitement. Why? Watch to find out!

I've ended up breaking things down by those who are car enthusiasts ("car guys" & "car gals") and those who are "car collectors". There is some overlap as both dig cars. But enthusiasts tend to bond with their cars through driving and wrenching on them. For them, a car as an investment in enjoyment. The collectors primary concern seems to be with the value of the car and how impressive it might be to others.

How many project cars out there that sit, disassembled, never get done, or take 10-20 years to get back on the road all in the goal of just looking good or looking shiny. People remember many many of us think this Mustang is cool, that it is beautiful just the way it looks. So if you yourself can get over having the perfect shiny paint then screw it. Just drive it like it sits and enjoy it. Forget what other people think and remember many of us probably think your car is cool just as it is right now!!

That smile when you drove it Colin, that's when you know you're not just about the numbers. Honestly, I think this 300K Miles Mustang that has a life is so much more fun than looking at a million dollar 50 year old Ferrari with 30 Miles on it. The Ferrari has become a collectible that hardly sees the light of day, sadly tucked away in a conditioned place, only going places on a trailer. Cars aren't stamps, they are meant to be driven, to awe people and be the dreams of little kids when it drives by, to have a great life story like this one. Thanks for this, I'd love to see more videos like it, it's just great..

I'm not a Mustang guy and normally appreciate originality above all else. Yet this has proven to be my favorite episode of The Appraiser (I REALLY wish you would title the KZbin thumbnails as such). I love the story of this car (& owner) and the fact that it has over 350K miles on it, just under his ownership. He is clearly a car guy through and through, and car guy stories are inherently more interesting than car collector stories. I was looking for my first car back in the '78/'79 timeframe. I wanted either a British sports car or an older Chevrolet, like a Camaro or Chevelle. However, one of the nicest cars that I happened upon was a 66 Mustang Fastback. It was pretty cherry, in light blue metallic paint over a blue interior with the base 289, it appeared to be all-original and at $2,500 was out of my price range. The original Fastbacks like the one I encountered as a kid or the one seen here in this video were the only Mustangs that truly appealed to me aesthetically. They remain great looking cars to this day in my opinion. I hope whoever bought the example I looked at all those years ago took good care of it. With any luck it might still be around today. Thanks for putting this episode together.

350k on a mustang is not so out of this world when you think about it. Cars today rack up A LOT of mileage. especially those that serve as daily commutes, as well out doubling up for outdoor excursions. A Mustang is such a car. You commute with it, you have fun with it. Its a daily banger, and a weekend warrior. And ironically its one of the better sports cars for doing distant travels. Just big enough for long distance comfort and storage, not terribly bad on gas mileage and holds up fairly well, not to mention being the type of car you can feel just a bit special in. So an older marque such as that can readily see such mileage if not more. Easy to put on, and easy to repair when things go wrong. One of the biggest saving graces for mustangs are their simplicity. In general their isnt much that one cant manage with some basic tools. And just as long as your not utterly thrashing out your ride with mods capable of cracking your block or blowing out things then theirs really no reason why your stang cant keep going on.

Rebult 2 times (one time rebult wrong with bearing caps in wrong places and wrong orientation) but never been bored. Still runs strong! In the 90s it was used in the winter. Cold starts in -25°C and 0.5m of snow on it. Last winter it allso was a winter car and we bought a electric preheater to heat up the old y-block for faster warmup. Without heater it can take 15-20min of driving to get it warm enough for us to not freeze inside 😂

Will all of the overly-anal car collectors please show themselves by crying out that Colin didn't establish a price for this car, lol. This video illustrates the fact that not everyone is fixated on their car's value. Yes, it can be beneficial to insure a car for what it's worth, but with Hagerty the value really comes down to what you personally think your own car is worth (within reason), not what anyone else thinks. Even an appraiser like Colin can appreciate this.
