I'm 80 years old. I bought the lifetime teton 10' I love the seat, foot holds, tracks both sides. The oeftnly negative is when I am not paddling the kayak turns itself to the left. Not a big deal. I'm 6'2" and weigh 204 lbs. I would recommend to lose the bungee cords front and back to maintain the flexibility of the cords.

6'2", 204 lbs, 80 years old, and still kayak fishing? Man...I wouldn't have wanted to mess with you in your prime. Probably STILL wouldn't mess with you 😂 GREAT points on the Teton, Gerald. The bungee cords could be better but they're sufficient for my needs. Keep doing what your doing, sir!

The bracket at the center below the seat is to attach the bottom center strap to keep the seat from sinking if it is detached from the clips/kayak. It is supposed to attach loosely so the seat can still be adjusted while attached. The bungees on the back of the seat are used to keep the seat from folding forward. I attach them to the rear storage bungee cords. Apparently some models had attachment holes on the rod holders, but mine doesn't and it appears yours does not either.
@mikeheuer1276
@mikeheuer1276 8 ай бұрын
Yep. It took me a little while to realize there is a strap underneath the seat that perfectly fits that hole and secures the seat to the kayak. Funny thing is, you can see the strap in the video and how it perfectly lines up with that bracket. I initially used it for the bungee cords.

I bought a Teton 100 during the summer of '22 on sale for $330 mostly based on the seat. The paddle didn't come with it, so that cost another $50 or so. I bought a keel protector, scupper plugs, an anchor, a couple of rod holders for the side rails, and a handheld fish finder. Loads and unloads easily on the luggage rack on top of my Trailblazer. Bought a wheeled dolly that fits through the scupper holes so I can roll it a fair distance instead of dragging it. The biggest issue I have is finding fishing holes in the local reservoir during the summer months. Helps to learn where they are and where I can put the kayak in nearby to make it an easy distance to cover by paddling. No way I would fish while standing up. Took me a couple of outings to get a good feel for balancing it while seated.

That was a wonderful review bro! I settled for the Pelican special and definitely pay for it with comfort and usability. The seat is horrible and I feel it within about 2 hours like you said. It doesn't track well and at times I feel unstable enough just sitting in mine let alone trying to stand. That would be an instant trip for my gear to the depths 🤣😂! It requires alot of effort to start and stop so it definitely limits how far I'm willing to go in order to conserve energy.

Good video as always. I have a Native Slayer 12 and it has pros and cons like any kayak would. But, a couple of things really stand out. The built on or in I guess, wheel on the back of the boat makes for extremely easy transport. Also, the seat that comes with the boat is very comfortable and it can be arranged in the low or high position. The storage is more than enough, but not too much if that makes sense. On the left and right of the seat there is room for one 6x9 inch box that can be strapped down if you prefer. There are two big deep storage areas, one at the front and back. It's stable, but like you said, not for a long time. Also, is that St.John's Marsh you were paddling through? I've always wanted to kayak there.

I bought the same kayak at Dicks last year on cyber Monday. It was selling for $399 at that time. Dicks was giving 25% off if you bought it online. Saved $100. Went to the store and they bought it out to me. Great deal. However, I am only 5’5” tall. I find that reaching to the front of the kayak is a little difficult for me. And although I like the gear tracks, once again they are to far away for me. I have added a couple a little closer which made it better. I also find that I can’t find a really good position for my feet. One is too close while the other is too far away. I have an idea to make it better. Otherwise, it is a great kayak.

I'm looking to buy my 1st kayak sometime soon, and this model is close to the top of my list. I want to keep it under $500, and I plan to use it mainly for fishing, as well as some wildlife photography. Would a sit on top kayak be more stable than a sit in model as a platform for photography? I just turned 60 years old and I'm about 5'8" tall and 215 pounds.
@TheMichiganFisherman
@TheMichiganFisherman 2 жыл бұрын
Sit on top platforms are ABSOLUTELY more stable than sit in kayaks. Especially for what you want to do (photography) You’re not that heavy at all but you might want to look into a kayak with a slightly higher weight capacity. I’d say this kayak is the best for really lightweight guys. I’m only 180. This kayak would definitely work though. If you want to go slightly heavier the Lifetime Yukon is EXTREMELY stable and very affordable. Only downside is it weighs 20 more pounds. Hope you enjoy whatever you get 😀👍 EDIT: Sorry. The Yukon is $529. Thought it was cheaper.

I wouldn't buy this thing, it's junk! I was gonna pick up a couple of these for my daughter and son in law but after reading the reviews I passed. Spend a couple extra bucks and buy something that's gonna last and you'll be happy with. I have kayaks that are very stable, you can easily stand in them and fish all day long. can you remove those orange rod holders and rotate them for a different angle? Also, I'm really liking this kayak but I'm 5'10" 225lbs and am worried about pushing the capacity too close with gear etc. Think this would handle it?
@TheMichiganFisherman
@TheMichiganFisherman 2 жыл бұрын
They’re screwed in so I’m sure you can remove them, but if you look at the shape, it’s made to be only at that angle. The shape and contours of the boat would prohibit it being at ANY angle.

At least you guys know who your coach is 😂👍 Tamarack Pro is VERY comparable to the Teton. Should be a bit more sturdy since the weight capacity is 25 lbs more than the Teton. I think you’re really going to enjoy it. Glad to know I won’t be the only one on LSC in a tiny kayak this year. Everyone has power or pedals…I’m old school. And cheap 😂👍

@@TheMichiganFisherman Yup, got the yak at Walmart for $402 out the door. I wanted the Yukon but it would be hard to transport without a trailer That GM John Davidson is dumbass. PP Coach Brad Larson sucks so promoted him to head coach. Now the whole coaching staff sucks with young players that have potential. Red Wings GM Stevie is going fix the problems. I always liked Red Wings. Can't stand any other teams in their division. Especially Bruins, they got their ass beat in Gm1 last night lol

The one thing I forgot to mention: This is NOT a kayak for heavier guys. 🚫 With a 275 lb weight capacity, if you're really heavy or slightly overweight, you may want to spend a couple hundred more dollars and buy a kayak with a higher weight capacity. The black post under the seat is for attaching your seat to the boat. You will notice the center strap under the seat is longer than the other straps. It’s so you can loop it through there.

I'm looking to buy a kayak and this is one that i am considering. The only thing that I'm skeptical about is that seat. It looks like you would be sitting with your thighs at an upward angle instead of straifgt out
@TheMichiganFisherman
@TheMichiganFisherman 2 жыл бұрын
They are slightly upward. But I still find it EXTREMELY comfortable. I literally did a 12 hour day on it once with only two small breaks and I was fine. Dick’s has these on sale now for $329 and they’re normally $479. That’s not a typo. It’s an awesome sale. I might even buy another one. If you wanted to make the seat more level you could put a block of wood under the back risers. Since you’d be higher up it may affect the stability though. I’m going to try it the next time I go out and I’ll let you know. I’m gonna be doing an updated video on this kayak soon. If you want to subscribe I’ll probably put that out within the next three weeks. 👍

@@TheMichiganFisherman Now, this wouldn't be the kayak you took a dunk in LSC trying to pee-pee would it?🤔 Listen, from one fisherman to another. Sometimes we just gotta do what we gotta do, and if that involves having an oversized bottle of some sort, to make, er, certain activities easier while sitting perhaps, I know it's alot harder to flip if you aren't on your knees. All kidding aside, I'm glad you had on your PFD, and I'm glad the water wasn't frigid, and I'm glad you collected yourself enough to get back in the yak and get to safety. How fortunate for you OC just happend to be out in the same area. You and Outdoor Conquest are my two absolutel favorites to watch. Good attitude, good sense of humor, loads of knowledge..so stay safe and keep the great footage coming. Tight lines!🎣

@@alexfamie5255 thanks…but I actually WAS trying to use a Gatorade bottle. My kayak seat is in a very reclined position. Imagine sitting in a recliner and trying to pee in a bottle. You can’t because you would spill it all over yourself. I was trying to kneel so that I could have the correct angle to go in the bottle. Thanks so much for the kind words about me and Lucas. @@TheMichiganFisherman Oh, man. I didn't realize you had one of those seats. I know exactly what you're talking about. I'm 6'1 around 230 so I feel your struggle on that note. Im always sitting forward just a bit when im casting but when I'm sitting relaxed I'm probably just less than a 90 degree if that makes sense. The first time I went in a yak was a 10ft sun dolphin sit inside and the challenge of peeing that day taught me alot about balance let me tell ya. 🤣

I went to Dicks Sporting goods to check one of these out. Looks like itll fit my needs fine. I thought maybe the seat would have a higher position. I was surprised to see it looks like your butt sits right on the floor. I had a wilderness systems yak for a while and while it was a nice one, your butt gets wet. You ever have that problem in this one?
@TheMichiganFisherman
@TheMichiganFisherman Жыл бұрын
Yes. That’s a negative I didn’t really talk about. If it’s a calm day it usually doesn’t happen. Rough days it happens a lot. I’d put scupper plugs underneath me but I run my transducer through the hole there. You could raise the seat with a 2x4 in the back. I tried that just last week but I didn’t like how it felt like I was leaning forward and I felt like it put pressure on my feet while they were on the footrests.
