The Flying Pickets are a British a cappella vocal group. This song was a number one hit in 1983 in the UK charts it was a cover of Yazoo's track Only You. Why not listen to Yazoo's version, Alison Moyet has a great voice. Personally. I liked The Flying Pickets version

Good name for a group considering the strikes and union actions of the time.

Whenever I hear this song I imagine a table full of different sized handbells and people picking them up and ringing them to produce all the sounds of the singing.

Remember seeing them on a British afternoon tv show called Pebble Mill at One in the early 1980's it was awesome then and it's still awesome now.

I have loved 'The Flying Pickets' for many years. They are a forerunner of the a cappela groups of today. I attended their on-tour concert in Melbourne, Australia and was on a natural high for days afterwards. I have their CD and video ( which may be on You Tube). ) Originally they were British actors who formed a singing group to support the striking union workers. The group's name comes from the fence pickets that were thrown during the work-associated riots. Their interpretation, change-up melodies and brilliant harmonies are gorgeous -- and they're funny !

Pickets are those on strike who stand at the factory gates and attempt to persuade those still working to join the strike. Flying Pickets were those from other factories on plants who turned up to give a hand. The practice has been stopped by the outlawing of Secondary Picketing.
