GFC makes nice stuff but a tent mounted above the roof line is going to have a significant impact on aerodynamics and range. AND tire poke... another aerodynamics killer. This setup was definitely not designed with maintaining range in mind.

The crash bar you cut off at 9:15 just has two bolts you can remove and the thing slides right out. I can see cutting it off so you don't have to remove the bumper, but why not remove the rest of it rather than leaving it?

No it doesn’t just slide out unfortunately you have to undo the front end and bumper and lift the front end up to slide that out. Been there :(

I can’t wait to see someone do a pre-runner build on one. If the front suspension is the same as regular f150s then any bolt on long travel suspension will work up front , bypass shocks , coil overs and air bumps. All standard f150 LT mods. For the rear it looks like Swing arm baja bug style. I think any off road race shop in so cal can build 3” over rear swing arms. Has frame too for bypass and air bump shock hoops/mounts. Extended 930 axles too…

Being an electric vehicle, most of Ford’s R&D probably was spent on maximizing aerodynamics and range…which you just annihilated in every way.

It's an F150 with electric motors. The only thing different about this and a gasser is the wheels, undercarriage, grill and weight. The aerodynamics would affect a ICE truck exactly the same.

The f150 gets horrible Efficiency for a ev. So no. He just made it worse that’s all.

They did almost nothing to address aerodynamics. It’s a bit lower than it’s counterpart and has minor little tweaks in the future. Their vehicle will probably be much more dynamic, but they wanted to rush to market to be the first electric pick up truck nonetheless lifting the truck will indeed reduce efficiency and dynamics a little bit, but since I’m going to be adding a truck camper and have it loaded down with work stuff, I don’t think it’s really gonna affect my dynamics that much.

Everyone, please watch Town and Country Ford, Lift a Ford Lightning. They were able to do the lift without cutting out the Crash bar, might be important to have when the Insurance company is evaluating an accident. Also, is the Fox spring set up rated to hold all of the extra weight from a Ford Lightning? I would say, Fox would say NO!

9:11 That is not superficial!! That is part of the crash protection system. That was placed there by engineers to crash in a manner less likely to injure the occupants. Particularly, it appears placed to deflect partial overlap frontal collisions.

Absolutely love this, but hate that the manufacturers make it so difficult to put bigger wheels on (cutting crash bar and front fender). Its almost a prohibitive step for those of us less experienced in auto upgrades/customization.

Fox's current F-150 spring rate on their Performance-Series 2.0's are DEFINITELY NOT spec'd for the GVWR of the lightning. Everyone wait until a proper coil-over mfg specs one correctly.

Speed is the only factor that kills range ive seen people saying there getting 430 miles of range around town as long as your not cruising at 75 mph every day it should be fine and they start at 39,995 four trim levels up then your at 100,000

Yeah let's cut off the crash bars cuz oh well. Lol definitely an improvement from just a puck though. Let's make sure you get the alignment done in the front. Would be bad to not tell people to do that after unbolting the control arms

Sasquatch model Broncos come with the crash bars deleted from the factory to clear the larger tires. Sure they are helpful in collisions but not entirely necessary. For our tire size selection we opted to cut ours but by no means do you have to and we certainly are saying you should. We have everything aligned after changing geometry in the suspension and while we didn’t mention it anyone that’s doing this themselves should know that. And if you’re taking it to a professional shop they certainly know it 😉 But thank you for pointing everything out to share with others. 🙌🏼

@@KingLuis1985 All F150 crash bars can be unbolted and removed as well. It just takes a lot more work and a lot more time to do it. So if they’re going in the garbage then it’s far quicker to just cut them off and be done with it. It’s always a discussion I have with customers to let them know exactly what can and will be done and if people are uncomfortable with cutting crash bars off then we go with a tire size that does not require any modification to them. Since this is my personal lightning that I own I opted to cut them off for times sake and throw them away.

All of the sensors would be out of whack at the front so you wouldn't want to risk any hands free driving if it is installed. At least until someone calibrates it properly.
