You are an amazing man, Illia - strong enough to move steel beams, intelligent enough to know how to move them, and gentle enough to feel for your poor pretty koi. After all, the greatest strength is gentleness. Honestly, Marina, you have a winner there.

my hubby built what i can only describe as a wooden trellis to fit our 15x15 x 5ft deep pond. he made the squares about 6-10 inch insize i think with a small window opening all down one side so that he could still put his hands in to hand feed our fish. really worked for us and didnt look too ugly. main thing it kept out predators while still allowing small animals such as birds and frogs acces to the water. sadly we no longer have the pond as my neigbour was caught on camera pouring bleach into it killing our 75 koi, orfe and several species of gold fish, some of the koi were 2ft in size. broke our hearts. you and him both have a passion for wood and fish sadly i lost my hubby 3yrs4mths and29 days ago. to say i miss him is an understatement. i had the pond filledd in last month and grassed over and a bench placed there with his name on it. now i sit there and drink my coffee in his memory of the hours he used to sit watching the fish.

@@DeHoeveOldBelgianFarm thank you that means alot. it reminded me of a time i came home from work to find a 1ft koi in my bath that was attacked by heron but was dropped and he rescued it. it was a bit of a shock, but i could never be angry with someone who cared so much as to try and save an animal. it was in the bath for 3 days before it sadly died. needless to say the bath was thoroughly disinfected. i wish you both well, love the vlogs and hope the rest of illoas fish stay safe xx

That was a very good trip through some of your varied and wonderful projects .The cats are having such a good time aren’t they ,it was such a treat to see them getting up to their cool cat things in their interesting domain . I am sorry the dastardly heron got your pretty fish and I’ll bet he was disappointed to loose it,but not as disappointed as you were .I am sorry, nature can be a real pain can’t it. The beam lifting device is a really cunning piece of equipment, and seemed to do a wonderful job of what could have been almost impossible . It’s nice to see the good weather happening more frequently ,and allowing you to make great strides with you renovating and beautifying work.❤

About the heron and fish, herons are smart, and will eventually get used to whatever method you use against them. I’ve heard that the trick is to rotate between methods once in a while, going back and forth with different options, rather than using only one method. Birds are very wary of change, so the change itself will likely deter them. Examples: netting (always), scare ribbon/tape, electric fence, dog/cat, motion-activated sprinkles, ripples/fountain, fake heron, etc I love birds, but I understand your sadness for your koi fish, too. Poor thing. I hope this helps.

A garden centre near the Dutch border in the West has horizontal strips of strong plastic material over the roof and on the sides of their greenhouses. This shields the plants against strong winds and yet lets air in. Provided these strips are of a sturdy material it's a long-lasting solution to your problem.
