Well you did it again!!! I know this video is old, but I ended up getting this pattern and several others since I’ve been binge watching your tutorials. I appreciate your attention to detail and your thorough explanation and how to do things to have the best possible finish and not just a fast tutorial like others where I feel like they just take short cuts and sew super fast like they are trying to show off. Thank you so very much Karina. You are one of THE best creators on KZbin!

My mom used to say 'if it's worth doing, it's worth doing well'. Don't worry about seeming too perfectionist. Attention to detail is what sets handmade apart from homemade. I love that about your methods, the tips I've learned from you to achieve that perfection is a main reason I watch and support your channel. I also just like listening to you. 😁🥰

I have had this pattern cut for awhile now. Got started today sewing it and followed your tutorial for the neck and exkband I have had this pattern cut out for a while, but started sewing it today using your video. I followed your video and instructions and was able to do the neckline and neckband with no issues. Everything came out perfectly! I am so glad I hand basted as you taught because everything came out so much easier and better than I could have imagined. I have watched and followed most all of of your videos and even though I have been sewing for many years, I have learned so much more from watching your channel than I could ever imagine. That Henley neckline is very flattering as it adds a vertical line down center front, it looks fantastic on you. Regarding making the dress in two parts, another option is to add a casing with elastic at the waistline. Great tutorial. Thanks!
@LiftingPinsandNeedles
@LiftingPinsandNeedles 3 жыл бұрын
The reason I prefer a separate bodice is that this way, I can curve the center front a tad lower to account for the volume of my bust. This way the center won’t ride up and the dress won’t be shorter in the front. A bit more work, but I don’t really mind :)

So helpful to have the process handy in a video. If the neckband fabric is not quite stable enough could a knit interfacing be used to give it more structure?
@LiftingPinsandNeedles
@LiftingPinsandNeedles 3 жыл бұрын
The knit interfacing I have does not really stretch much at all, so because the band needs to stretch to fit the neckline in some areas, I would be reluctant to fuse interfacing. But, if your interfacing does stretch well, then it’s a good option too :)
@aerocoaster3252
@aerocoaster3252 3 жыл бұрын
I would have put the “extra” buttons at the top of the placket on the wearer’s left side, which is where they would be if the placket really had buttonholes. But that is being really picky. Your henleys look lovely on you.
@LiftingPinsandNeedles
@LiftingPinsandNeedles 3 жыл бұрын
If I had nice knit interfacing (mine is not great) I would’ve actually sewn buttonholes. I’d fuse the band from the triangle down. They are decorative and I sewed them on as the pattern design shows. It’ll all optional :) Thanks for watching 😊.

Hi Corina, I just love your tutorials. This question is not necessarily for this video, but I am interested in your answer. Do you ever trim your 5/6" seam allowance down to 3/8 before you start? I know that is your preferred seam allowance. Please keep up your wonderful work as many of us love, love, love them
@LiftingPinsandNeedles

I never trim seams before sewing because It can affect the accuracy of the piece. I deal with what I have but I still have preferences :)

Love all three makes but especially the dress. Your comments on the cuff version using material without pattern on wrong side - would it work by folding the material right sides together, stitch to keep in place, then fold back on itself to the outside? Not sure if I’ve explained that properly, I know what I mean !!

The tab view is just a normal long sleeve that’s hemmed normally. There’s no cuff there. That’s why I mentioned the wrong side being seen when you roll it up. It would need to be a nice wrong side or it be the same 😀

Great tutorial as always Karina. You're always so generous with your knowledge and experience. I have a question...when you machine stitched the placket to the neckline did you still need to stretch your fabric a little as you sewed even though you had hand basted, or did you just let the machine feed the fabric?

I stretched the band to fit the neckline when I hand basted. When I sewed with the machine, it was already done, so I just sewed normal with a straight stitch.

Great sewing tutorial as always....the placket looked daunting until I watched your tips. 1 question: did you have to lower the apex or under the arms on this pattern for your perfect fit? Thanks.
@LiftingPinsandNeedles
@LiftingPinsandNeedles 3 жыл бұрын
Not at all. I pretested the pattern before the actual testing and made it just as it was. All I did was add length to the dress version. No changes up above.

Great instructions. I found that I had to stretch the band a lot to the point is wrinkled around the shoulders. Did you have that problem?
@LiftingPinsandNeedles
@LiftingPinsandNeedles 3 жыл бұрын
Does your fabric have the 40% stretch? Did you cut your band with the greatest stretch going across? I didn’t need to stretch excessively and it’s only 10% shorter in that area.

When you cut your facings out, how do you face the fabric ? You said that you put your interfacing on your fabric before you cut our facings out.
@LiftingPinsandNeedles
@LiftingPinsandNeedles 3 жыл бұрын
This pattern does not need the neckband to be interfaced at all. There are no buttonholes, so it’s not required. When I block fuse, I calculate the area of fabric where the pattern pieces will fit. I fuse the interfacing on the piece of fabric first, then I place the pattern pieces and cut. They’ll be perfect and already have the interfacing on. Usually for woven projects

Just had an idea... Could you put a casing inside the dress for elastic to give the look of two pieces and that would naturally shorten it just a bit. Hmm.

I like the loose comfy look of this one and hemming will take me only a few minutes, whilst adding a casing will take longer 😀

Karina...I have been meaning to ask you, on one of your last couple of videos...I saw a thread that looked like the same thread that you used on your overlocker and sewing machine. 🤔 So I was wondering...do you use the serger cone threads for your sewing machine as well? Much cheaper thread. If so just the regular 100% poly? I will have to give that a try. I currently use Gutermann, I buy the larger cones when I can, but they don't come in all the colors. Thanks in advance for answering the question. I have really been loving everything you have been posting! Thanks a bunch...I learn sooo much for you!

Depends on the color of the garment, I’ll use wooly nylon serger thread if I have the color but if I don’t I use big poly thread reels for everything:)

@seamsuneven7824 3 жыл бұрын
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles Is the big poly reels serger thread? Because I wasn't aware that it was safe to use that kind of thread in a regular sewing machine. Really what is the difference between poly thread on the smaller spools do you know? Thanks
@LiftingPinsandNeedles
@LiftingPinsandNeedles 3 жыл бұрын
@@seamsuneven7824 oh i think I’m confused by your question. I use regular 100% poly thread in big cones on the machine. Also on the serger occasionally to match the color of the garment. I only use serger wooly nylon on the serger, not the machine. I buy big cones because I go through a lot of thread and it’s cheaper than the little spools.

@@LiftingPinsandNeedles Here in the US they sell Serger thread on the cones. In different blends of thread I guess? 🤔 I don't have one so not 100% on that. But I do know they have nylon blends and 100% poly. I was wondering if you use the Serger thread on your sewing machine or do you buy like Gutermann poly thread that is made for sewing machines? I hope that is more clear? Basically have you ever used your serger thread on your sewing machine?

It’s the same I used for the top and dress. A structured denim look jersey. Feels stiff like cotton spandex and has nice stretch.
