Let's talk about ACL injuries:
One of the most important ligaments that helps support your knee joint is the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). The ACL is a ligament that joins your thighbone (femur) to your shinbone (tibia) (tibia). It's most typically torn in sports like basketball, soccer, tennis, and volleyball, which all require rapid stops and changes in direction.
An anterior cruciate ligament injury is caused by overstretching or tearing of the ACL in the knee. A tear can be partial or total.
Early signs and symptoms of ACL:

Swelling of the knee within 6 hours of injury

Walking with crutches until the swelling and pain subside
Brace your knee to provide stability.
Physical therapy to aid in the improvement of joint motion and leg strength
ACL reconstruction surgery
Some people can live and function regularly despite having an ACL tear. Most patients, however, report that their knee is unstable and may "give out" during strenuous exertion. Unstable knees following ACL rupture can result in an additional knee injury. Without the ACL, you are also less likely to return to the same level of sports.
When Should You Consult a Doctor?
If you suffer a major knee injury, contact your provider right soon.
If your foot is chilly and blue following a knee injury, seek medical assistance right once. This means that the knee joint could be dislocated, and blood vessels leading to the foot could be damaged. There is a medical emergency here.
