Nowhere quite like 29 Palms. Delta Company 3rd AAVBn 1982-1985. Love the place! Retired in 1995. There was no such thing as an LAV when I got there. There were RPVs, the grandaddy of UAVs. Still had M60 tanks.

@@maxstutler242 - I'm was an LAV-25 gunner (0313 crewman). Nothing POG about it. If anything, I had to maintain my skills in both mounted and unmounted warfare in case our vehicles go down. We also needed to maintain SOC readiness when attached to special forces. GTFO with that POG talk. That just tells you how ignorant people are when they talk about other small 03 units they know nothing about.

The shit we wear is heavy enough. Don't give our command any ideas!!!
@JT-bg2vy5 жыл бұрын
During my time serving in the US Army, we had shoulder protection. You know what we didn't wear? The shoulder protection. Too cumbersome, limits mobility, adds to body heat, just a pain in the ass to have. Best thing to do is to never use it and keep it in plastic. That way it doesn't get kicked back from CIF when you ETS.
@harambeexpress5 жыл бұрын
Armour is heavy, especially when you have a lot of other gear too. Any more armour than they currently have and they would move too slow and they would tire too quickly. Shoulders are not considered vital and so they are a low priority for protection. The armor plates are positioned only to protect the vital organs and it is the reason you see modern combat shooters face their target square on with their chest forward rather taking a side-on stance like you see in old pictures. There is no armor plating under the arms either so a round can go straight through piecing both lungs and probably the heart. The kevlar can stop shrapnel and low-power rounds, but for 5.56 and bigger a metal plate is still required to stop the round. The metal plates are most of the weight in the armor. The older MCBAS armor the Australian Army used included neck and groin protection, but it was never used because it was too heavy and limited mobility. I believe the Americans say "ounces make pounds and pounds make pain".
@danconti59845 жыл бұрын
Not like it will do much. You’re better off keeping the bare minimum safe so u can at least stay alive, a shoulder hit is not fatal usually so it’s not really an issue, at least for now. Also in a world of combat where mobility is everything having more pounds to carry can really affect performance.

They really think that Strikers are going to be level if one day they must fight someone? In Europe we use the LAVs because we are poor ... the LAV are very bad to do recognition work in mechanized units... big, slow, tall and very bad in open field ... what teh real point of this LAV? i never undestad why USA have this LAV... we want to have Marder and Pizzarros or BMP .. and USA has thousands of LAVs... And do you really think it's a good IFV? you are lucky to have the largest air force on the planet. USAF

@@gorkarullan but that its the proposite of the lav for supporting and protecting they have the bradley or the striker im from portugal and you
@gorkarullan5 жыл бұрын
@@rubenoliveira3260 The issue is that the role played by the striker does not fit into any unit. LAVs were invented in WWII as lightweight reconnaissance units integrated in heavier units. Example divisions or "KampGruppe". At present, its use in an armed conflict is very limited (not by number, but by capabilities), they can only carry out missions against light infantry units, or missions against insurgents (against partisans, control of occupied territory, NEVER ON THE FRONT LINE ). Most Stryker Brigades are "deployed" in National Guard units. Not in frontline units The Striker brigade deployed in Europe was replaced by a mechanized unit after the "Occupation of Crimea". Why they are not considered units suitable for first-line combat According to Capt. Andrew Gregory (Modern War Inst. West Point) The Striker is not an IFV, it is an ICV (Infantry loading Vehicle) Why do Americans have 4,500 units of such a poor vehicle? and still have not developed a Substitute for M113 (has been in service since 1960)? That's why I think the Stryker is a joke for USArmy
