Shannon is a rare person who uninhibitedly inhabits her music with her experience through her lyrics when not only do those lyrics touch deeply on the human experience that we all share (to one degree or another), but also brings into the fore her experience as a person of color who, due to the history of an inhumane (but sadly, human) barbarism called slavery, has a family tree steeped in blood and violence. Thank you, Shannon, for this song, and for its terseness, it's sharpness, it's jaggedness, and for the fact that every time I hear it, I am forced to hear about something we hear so little about. It's humbling, poignant, challenging, and of course, beautiful.

Still love this ten years on. So damn powerful and beautiful. Shannon, you look stunning and sound utterly magnificent. Bless both of you x.

Do you know what ever happened to them, it seems they just disappeared or from my understanding someone in the band passed away??
@lukasketner Жыл бұрын
@@hydrohyperdrive8443 I only just heard them for the first time last night when I saw them live, so there's still shows. I'm surprised to see there's just the one album from 10 years ago. A new favorite regardless!

@@hydrohyperdrive8443 Bruno Coviello, one of the two members of Light Asylum, left the project in 2012, to focus on other things. That’s the reason why there was no more music from them afterward

@@lukasketnerIf you’re collecting records, it’s the right moment to discover them. Their album (that got really expensive over the years on the second hand market) did just get a vinyl reissue :)

@@iamKiluka Awesome thanks! I'll pick it up. Pretty sure they're local to my town too, so hope to see another show at some point :)

It's a kick drum playing 2 quarter notes followed by 8 sixteenth notes. That doesn't make it a Blue Monday sample.
@Asporez3 жыл бұрын
Still a cool easter egg, the song is so different from blue monday even with the similarity wich is core to post-rock.

It's similar with Machine Gun by Portishead and Rivers by Keluar

I'm actually GLAD it sounds like Blue Monday and Machine Gun. Those are two of my favorites and that drum style should be used a little more often if you ask me. I approve.
@S4M3L11 жыл бұрын
In blue monday sample riff is like 2 slow beats then 8 fast and 4 slow. In machine gun is 2 slow 8 fast. Skull fuct contains 2 slow then 8 fast, so it's different. Only sound of sample is similiar ;)

At first, I was a little skeptical owing to the sizeable debt to Blue Monday, but they really develop upon that percussive motif and make it their own. And that singer is a force of nature.

Where is guy on the horse guy going? Why is he wearing a cape? What time is this in? Is he just out enjoying a brisk horseback riding sesh or is he frantically trying to reach somewhere? Or run from something? Did he get super flustered when Dave the neighbor asked him to pick up out his yard Gumbies raunchy poo piles, and jump on his horse just because he didnt know what the fck else to do... but DO SOMETHING before shit got too real and he "accidentally" ripped Dave's smug face off??? The possibilities are endless
