@kamakshiyenurkar43323 жыл бұрын
Vareigated plant
@TheSingtangpaScienceGuy3 жыл бұрын
A plant with variegated leaves is used only for demonstration the essential role of chlorophyll in photosynthesis. For this experiment, u can use just about any green plant. No restrictions on a particular species or groups. Because photosynthesis takes place in all green plants.

@vanidhruw4 жыл бұрын
can anyone tell me why we boil it in alcohol.
@TheSingtangpaScienceGuy4 жыл бұрын
Hi. It is necessary to boil the leaf in alcohol for 2 reasons: 1. To kill the leaf cells 2. To decolourise/bleach the chloroplasts present in the leaf. No.2 reason is very important because if the leaf is not decolourised and remains green, then when we perform the iodine test for starch on the leaf, we will not be able to discern clearly which parts of the leaf turn blue black in colour and which parts do not show change in colour. However, on a bleached leaf, one can easily observe the regions of the leaf that show a positive/negative iodine test. Hope this helped. If further explanation required, do lemme know. 🤓

Do we have to water the plant while it's in the dark place ??
@TheSingtangpaScienceGuy3 жыл бұрын
depends on the humidity level. But it will survive 2/3 nights without water. If you water it just before putting in dark, that should suffice.
@hex_shining_lion2 жыл бұрын
I think that maybe you can prove that the light is needed for photosyntesis by mixing baking soda with water, sinking leaves to the bottom of whatever do you have the solution in and putting it under a light. You should see the oxygen bubbles comming up. Then by trying the same thing in darkness you should see that nothing is happening. Would this work as well as a proof of importance of the light in photosyntesis?

Not exactly

@whatabouttheearth19 күн бұрын
I know they use that in demonstrations but I would think that you wouldn't need baking soda though, because the Oxygen Evolving Complex in Photosystem II produces the O2 and CO2 from the baking soda has nothing to do with that. It's the photon that causes excitation and the OEC that breaks apart the H2O. And yeah, no photons means no PSII activation

@@whatabouttheearth Okay, now you made me think back to what was 15 years old me cooking up over two years ago... Anyway, so you are implying that if we took a plant and put it in a place with absolutely no ammount of CO2, the photosynthesis would still be running? That the plant would produce it itself? Well, I would like to start of with the fact that I am not an actual plant biochemistry expert. And that english is not my first language, so I don't really know for sure by what you mean with the oxygen evolving complex stuff, because in my language it is likely called completely differently. But I would assume you mean what we call Kok cycle. And that to my knowledge produces oxygen, but not CO2. But think about it, since supposedly photosynthesis are made to fixate CO2 from the surroundings inside the plants and make organic substances using the CO2, why on earth would they make their own CO2 and not absorb any CO2 out of the surroundings? CO2 in organic synthesis is generated mostly out of decarboxylation as far as I know. There is decarboxylation in the second phase of photosynthesis, the one that happens in darkness, but at least a significant, major ammount of CO2 produced in there is bound in 3-phosphoglycerate and isn't used for photosynthesis. Plus CO2 also has to enter the reaction as in the cycle it's more like carboxylation-decarboxylation. So it wouldn't be sustainable to use just this cycle to supply CO2 everywhere. I don't have time to think further than this rn, maybe I will get back to it later.
