Even Diana Walstad recommends having flow these days. Stagnant water is never good. Besides that. Great video. Beautiful tank!

You can keep the milky water in check with daphnia. To keep the fish from eating them you can cut big holes in a bottle and pull a fine nylon sock over it. Even the baby daphnia cannot escape and will be safe from the fish. I got the water to clear up in my light only tank that way.

I don't know anything about daphnia. I would be interested to know how to grow it
@cuso48356 ай бұрын
@@walstadmethodstepbystep They are filter feeders which is why they can help clear up milky water as long as the milkyness is caused by microorganisms (like in algae or bacterial blooms in extreme cases). They also don't like a lot of water movement and they are generally not demanding when it comes to water parameters. Breeding daphnia is also very easy as a single female can just produce offspring on her own and will do so almost daily if there is enough food. I got mine from my local pet store as fish food and have tried different setups for breeding them but had at least some success with most of them. I had the most success in well cycled tanks. Yours might be just perfect for them as long as they're safe from the fish that would otherwise hunt them down faster than they can reproduce. I'd say you should just get some daphnia and run some experiments on your own, it is a lot of fun an you can get a good feeling for what works best that way.

Biofilm can harm gas exchange so co2 can build up and the water might get oxygen deprived if you dont have long photoperiod. So I would keep a close eye on fishes breathing to see if they have laboured breathing or not, if they do, you can blow some bubbles with a pipette yourself to break apart some of the biofilm to allow gas exchange, or have long photoperiod so plants help with oxygen generation, or add some aeration. My bladder snails absolutely love biofilm and i only had that strong of biofilm when i added some tea to add tannins to my aquarium. I realized in the morning my fishes had laboured breathing so i broke apart the biofilm and turned the lights on, and in 1h they were all back to normal. Since then i stopped adding tea, and never got biofilm back again. As for the heater part, as long as youre happy sitting in the same room with some light clothes comfortably, most fish will do absolutely fine without a heater. I wouldn't worry about water movement near heater as they dont put out huge amounts of heat, after the tank reaches designated temperature, it just kicks on once in a while to keep that temperature stable and then turns off when its at the designated temperature. The only thing i can think of that could be damaged is if a plant has tangled itself in the heater which is unlikely. Im curious to know what you're feeding your aquarium.

i think milky water cause by overfeeding, and ur tank maybe cant take the bioload increase over time, i have same prob in my walstad guppy tank, since guppy bread like crazy my tank had milky water. my opinion check ur fish movement, if they active just let the tank balance it self, i wish this is helping. keep uploading bro. thx
