A compilation of highlights from a few recent sessions at a local beach.
Conditions have been pretty decent which means throwing LRF sized metals is a viable option.
All my fish were caught using my Major Craft Truzer paired up with a Shimano Stradic.
For some great LRF reading check out my fishing buddy Ben's blog
benbassettfish...
And for some great LRF and fishy type designs (super cool t-shirts!) check out the link below

@@DevonLerfer I was fishing with bait for 30+ years. Only last year I started on LRF. Using smaller lures I can literally fish anywhere. Shallower water with kelp and rocks

I had an incident recently. I got stung by a bee under my arm and dropped my LRF into the sea. It’s now long gone. I had to replace everything. I was able to get the exact same rod again. I went for a different reel this time with different braid. I was using YGK G Soul X4 but I discovered Sunline Siglon X8 for less than I paid for the YGK. I am very impressed with the Sunline. I had to switch to my old pier rod till my LRF was delivered and I discovered I can cast a 12 Seeker farther on my LRF than I can a 3oz weight with my pier rod. What brand of braid do you prefer and also, what Jigparas do you like the best?
@DevonLerfer

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate bee/rod incident, what a nightmare! I'm a big fan of sunline small game, its by far the best braid I've used and widely regarded as the best LRF by many. Its expensive though at around £50 a spool. For an affordable and good quality alternative, I use major craft dangan light game braid and that performs very well, especially for a 4 strand 👍🎣

I've been using the jigpara micros in the "live" patterns recently and have done well on them. Quite excited about the new nano aji metals just out too!

@@DevonLerfer I did see the Dangan braid when I was on the hunt for new braid. I did think about it based on it being bright pink so I can see exactly where my line is. The YGK stuff I used was a light purple and very hard to see. I will look into the light game Sunline. I got the X8 10lb stuff. I see they do an advanced X8, do you have any experience with the Sunline advanced braid?

@@DevonLerfer This is news to me. I will definitely look out for them. Where do you buy your Jigparas from? I got mine from Chesil B&T but they are sold out of a few pink ones I hear are the best. Do you have an affiliation link to any tackle shops?
@DevonLerfer

I've not used the sunline advanced mate. I'm in agreement regarding the pink braid though, I do like to be able to see where my line is! Have you tried Todber manor for the jigparas?

Well just got back from my further attempt to catch at this beach and guess what? Correct, I blanked again !! Water was the colour of Oxtail soup andI lost one of my brand new Duo lures on the first cast. Think I'll dust off my beach casters especially as a chap fishing with bait 30 yards away was having great fun catching schoolies. This lrf is hard work.

Unlucky Lionel, Budleigh can be a tough old place with the lures, especially when the water is coloured! I couldn't get out but that breeze always causes it to stir up a bit down there. Stick at it mate, you'll get your rewards in the end!

Do you find this is the case in most places? I haven't managed to catch a mackerel yet (I'm new to sea fishing) and I'm trying a similar tactic to you. Any tips would be great!
@DevonLerfer
@DevonLerfer 4 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the mark you are fishing mate. At this time of year Mackerel will be very localised and harder to find. Deeper water and slow sinking lure, slow retrieve would be my approach.

Do you clobber them on the head to put them out of their misery? Serious question.
@DevonLerfer
@DevonLerfer 5 жыл бұрын
Good question. If I do keep them, I break their necks - quick and easy. Most of what I catch goes back though. It's a real pet hate of mine when people keep their fish but leave them to die in a plastic bag or bucket!
