I am that person who did shadows with multiply! And I’m here looking for a better way and I so appreciate what you share here, this is so great!

How do you shade without coloring over the outlines? Do I duplicate the outline layer and put it over the shading layer or is there a better way? Thanks in advance.

I keep my line one layer, and my color on a layer underneath of it. I am painting in all the shading on the color layer. It's an advanced coloring book when you work this way. I do all the line work first. Do a solid fill layer underneath within the lines, then ALPHA LOCK that layer for the remainder of the coloring and rendering. I will typically apply the fancy layers (hardlight/overlay) over both the line layer and the color layer, which I DUPLICATE first, then merge, then CLIPPING MASK those layers over the painted layer. I hope this clarifies! Feel free to ask away, it's why I am here!
