DELPHINE DESCENDS
After her family is killed and her homeworld occupied, young Kathreen Martin is sent to the distant world of Furoris for re-education. She will live the rest of her life as a serf - to be bought and sold as a commodity of the Imperial Network.
When her only chance of escape is ruined, a chance mistaken identity offers her a new life as the orphaned daughter of a First-Citizen Senator and heiress to a vast fortune.
She vows to claw her way into power to sit among the worlds’ elite. Then, with her own hands, she will reap bloody vengeance on them all.
But to beat them, she must play their game. And she must play it better than them all.
BLACK MILK
Prometheus has the chance to bring his wife back from the dead, but doing so will mean the destruction of Earth.
Spanning time, planets and dimensions, Black Milk draws to a climactic point in a post-apocalyptic future, where humanity, stranded with no planet to call home, fights to survive against a post-human digital entity that pursues them through the depths of space.
Five lives separated by aeons are inextricably linked by Prometheus’s actions:
Ystil.3 is an AI unit sent back in time from the distant future to investigate Prometheus’s discovery...
The mysterious Lydia has devoted her life to finding a planet that the last remaining humans can call home…
Tom Jones (he’s a HUGE fan!) is an AI trapped inside a digital subspace, lost and desperate to find his way back to his beloved in real-time…
Dr Norma Stanwyck is a neuroscientist from 24th Century Earth whose personal choices ripple throughout time...
Prometheus must learn the necessity of death or the entire universe will be swallowed by his grief.

This trilogy is a masterpiece and one of the most fascinating sci fi novels that i have ever read. I love that it's so devisive, because you need to be smart enough to comprehend the novel. I read a goodreads review from a guy that hates the trilogy, i couldn't help but laugh at it. Thanks for this video, its almost a requirement for anyone that wants to get into M. John Harrison's wonderful creation.

Read Light back in 2003... found it a roller coaster, but enjoyed it. I discovered the rest of the trilogy at the end of last year, not started them yet, I hope they are as good!

If you mean good as in as mind meltingly weird then you should be happy. The third is so off the scale in strangeness I've read it twice and still have no idea what the hell is going on... and for that reason I love them all.

There is a direct linage from Roadside Picnic through The Kefahuchi Tract and The Southern Reach Trilogy. All three are about places where causality breaks down and the people who can endure that.

I just finished this trilogy. Nearly the whole time I was reading it, I was questioning my interpretation. But at the same time, I was so thoroughly entertained I could not put the books down. I saw the Shadow Operators as rogue code too. But I could not figure out how they manifested, unless it was from bleed over from the Kefahuchi tract that provided the means. Mr. Moore, if you have read the remaining two books after Light, I would sure enjoy a full trilogy review. Thanks for your videos.

Read the first couple of pages and there was not one single thing that made me want to read any further. The rest of the novel may be pure gold but I'll never know. I'm done and will start something written by an author who makes an effort to pull me into their story.

Just finished reading this. Has everything which appears in The Reality Dysfunction but gels together far better and makes perfect sense. And you are actually interest in the characters even the minor ones and want to find out where the story is going. Unlike the TRD.

Light is one of my favorite books. It's like it was written by a surrealist that got tired of painting melting clocks and decided to have a go at extremely bleak hard sci-fi. Love it.

I don't know if I'll ever get to this one. I want to like M John Harrison, but I find it difficult. Viriconium had some interesting ideas but dragged on too long. So then I tried The Course of the Heart and it was probably my least favorite book ever. I want to understand what people like about Harrison, but I just don't get it and find that experience very frustrating. So I'm not sure if it's worth giving him yet another try.

Hi Darrel, I tried ordering Black Milk paperback a couple of days ago via Amazon UK and it's out of stock ☹ Is that just a glitch in the Matrix or a permanent state of affairs? Who says you're allowed to tease us only to subvert our expectations and where do I fill the form applying for compensation? Be it known that if my rights as a crazy fan aren't satisfied, I will report you to the proper authorities on the matter!

An excellent review for a book that I personallyo found impenetrable. Not so much due to the complexity of ideas, but the way in which it was written, with several line long sentences and a range of vocabulary that would confound even seasoned readers. Your review managed to clarify what many readers might have construed as incomprehensible. Last but not least your use of visuals greatly helped t what many readers might have construed as incomprehensible. Last but not least your use of visuals greatly helped to convey the themes in the novel and also make the review enjoyable to watch/ listen to. Keep up the good work my friend
