I laughed so hard when you said "hard act to follow". I thought the same thing when I saw Hi Ren almost two years ago. Around 250 songs later, there isn't a weak one in the bunch! Some are deep like this, some are funny, some rap, some lovely melodious, the Shakespearian tragedy of the Tales of Jenny and Screech, the stories of the hell Ren has traveled through... my story is similar to Ren's. I've been ill 20 years, bedridden for 6. Ankylosing spondylitis, MCAS, fibromyalgia... this was the first time I heard someone who had experienced the same pain I had. Ren gave me hope. A hope I hadn't felt in years. Ren lost his best friend when he was 20. He jumped off a bridge. Seeing his family go through that seemed like the only thing some days that kept Ren going, not being able to make his own family go through that. There are songs about that as well. Subscribed to watch your Ren journey! My favorites are Seven Sins, and How to be Me. Those are dear to me, as they're so close to my story. It's so hard to pick favorites though, everything Ren touches is gold! He is independent, his videos all involve friends, his videographer is his good friend, Samuel Perry-Falvey. Most of his videos are recorded with no permissions, guerilla style. A lot are one shot, live videos. He does most of his own beats, he produces the songs himself. Troubles is a great song, kind of a cliffs-notes of his life. You can't really go wrong! (Just don't start with Kujo Beat Down, you need to get to know Ren and the back story to the song to get the meaning or impact of it) just trust when songs are numbered, to watch in order, and have fun in Rens rabbit hole! The Renegades will help guide you through it! 💜

Ren's background is probably best described in his own words. He has a short 1 million subscribers video which has a brief description of his illness and a lot about his philosophy of life. Then there are the 8 chapters he published in the run up to releasing the song Troubles, earlier this year. He talks in a lot more detail about his life from age 19 to the present. He's been through a lot. He's done a number of interesting interviews. In my opinion, the most insightful was the Zack Sang show. There's a lot of autobiographical content in Ren's songs. Ones that spring to mind (in order of release) are Crutch, Insomnia, Depression, Power, Sick Boi, Suic*de, Seven Sins, and the aforementioned Troubles.

I was watching on large screen. Could not comment. Had to get pad to reply. Now as I watch I can reply. I am 73 year old survivor. I have jumped off cliffs. Swam raging rivers. Face to face with black bear, mountain lions, raging bulls. Stared down cancer 12 years ago. Traveled thru Italy, England, France, Costa Rica and lately Ecuador alone. But I have fought a inner demon, since I could look in the mirror. Ren captured my battle. Watching Hi Ren hundreds of times has helped me unwind my TRAUMA and find my way. I know I am human. We all fight together. Good review. I will watch you and comment here now. Now. About Ren. I saw George Harrison, Ravi Shankar, Janice, Hendrix. Many more. Ren is the most honest and creative artist I have seen since the 60's. He is NOT signed to a label. He wrote, produced and ended up with #1 album in England for last year. He did it... I stayed for the discussion. More discussion please. Bill

Hey!! Don't be making fun of that cutie pie's haircut. 😡 He cuts it himself to save money. That was almost 2 yrs ago, it's looks a bit different now anyways. He was about efficiency, saving time and money. He isn't vain or greedy so he didn't care what it looked like and it was off his neck. There is a video(on one of his KZbin pages) where he cuts all his teams/best friends hair(whether they wanted it or not 😂). His name is Ren Gill, he is Welsh. Turns 35 in March. The music video is called "Hi Ren". Nice reaction and discussion gentlemen. 56 yr old grandma and I love Ren's music and his humanity. He is authentic, honest, has integrity and cares about people and the earth. He has a message to get out to the world and puts messages in most of his music. That is why he stays independent to get his message across to the masses and stays away from labels and their very lucrative contract offers because he knows they would censor his music.

I agree. Minute 10:35 "He's describing what everyone has, the self doubt." - "Do you think we're born with it?" No. We're born pure and confident. It's the people who raise us and society that changes us and our minds. Interesting that they start the video by saying he has the worst haircut ever and then have to analyze where self-doubt comes from. (no hate to the channel creators as I enjoyed this reaction video, just an observation) Judgment and criticism are poisons we are force fed from an early age, hence the growth of self-conscious thoughts versus self-empowered. Our society seems to be addicted to negativity, yet we all have the capability to build each other up and feed each other love and acceptance. Ren is a genius who still struggles due to his health and mental health issues. He just had a health relapse and ended up back in the hospital. I hope all the love and support he gets helps him heal because the world needs his messages and musical expression.

This was a single live take. They attempted four of them and this is the one they chose. If you notice he's mic-ed up and the guitar is amplified. There were several cameras including the handheld. The edits you see are the different camera viewpoints from the same one take. Ren spent many years being misdiagnosed with mental illness only to discover 8 years later that it was Lyme disease that had gone untreated all that time. If you don't know Lyme disease can affect many systems in your body including the organs and your neurological system. As a result of the long time misdiagnosis he still struggles with some mental issues and is often bedridden from the Lyme disease.

I just saw your Hi Ren reaction, and put this journal entry of Ren's as my comment to that reaction. ~~~~~~jAN 01, 202~~rEN~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Up until I was 9 years old, I would intermittently hear a voice in my head that was not my own. The voice was distinctly different to mine, and always negative. It would self criticize or urge me to do things I knew to be morally wrong. The most peculiar thing about the voice was that it took no effort on my behalf to produce. My own thoughts always felt like there was a process that required effort to bring them to the forefront of my mind, this voice appeared as though it was spoken by another. The sentences felt predetermined like they had already been constructed. I remember very vividly at 9 years old, becoming very frustrated with the voice. I stood in my back yard, internally screaming at the voice to be silent again and again, and it did. In a flash there was silence, to the point where my head felt like an empty room. I wasn't used to the quiet and that voice never returned. It almost felt lonely in my head. When I got older I had intermittent bouts with auditory hallucinations where I would hear perfect symphonies, usually at night when drifting off to sleep. They were so clear that they sounded like they were emanating from a radio in the corner of my room. I knew they weren't there, but for some reason they never came with the feeling of fear. I also recall sitting on a bus at the age of 15, and hearing the sound of a crowded room, with about 100 voices chattering away, I was the only person apart from the driver on the bus. These experiences were always very brief, and few and far between. My last hallucination was during an intense bout of psychosis in 2015, and was my first visual hallucination. I was walking down a pavement after jumping out my mums car in a crossroads in a moment of frustration and distress with my condition. I was trying to run from myself. What appeared to be a homeless man with a dark complexion approached me, and asked me what was wrong. I explained that I had been sick most my life, and I wasn't sure I had the strength to continue. He looked at me, and smiled and told me 'everything is going to be okay in the end Ren.' I had not told him my name. There was something so overpoweringly sincere about this very simple message, which brought with it an overwhelming feeling of inner peace, and in a flash, he vanished. My rational brain always linked these experiences to what the doctors have told me, that there are parts of my brain compromised by the autoimmunity in my body. That the myelin sheaths surrounding the complex electrical system that conduct my thoughts were damaged and compromised, causing these lucid experiences that I knew did not exist inside the physical world. The part of me that edges away from logical and rational thought always attributed these thoughts to some kind of otherworldly intervention, that made my thoughts the battleground of some spiritual tug of war. For a long time I never really acknowledged this part of myself, for with it brought the danger and stigma of sounding like a crazy person. I decided with my latest release, to the best of my ability, to capture and express this chess match of thought. Hi Ren comes out in just over 24 hours. I can't wait for you all to hear it.

Hey guys, great reaction! I like how you use movie clips to help us understand your references. Very cool. I subbed for your Ren journey. I've been following for almost a year and I love watching new reactions because I get different perspectives. Ren does a song with his then gf, Bibi. The name is Crutch and it was done at time when Ren did not yet have his Lyme disease diagnosis and he truly thought he was dying. Low budget but beautifully done ❤ Enjoy and welcome to the Reniverse 🎉

Renegade here! Little info about Ren that I post on every new to his work reactor! He is self taught on piano and guitar. With ONE MILLION SUBSCRIBERS - Defining success video you can see what kind of person Ren is. He fights with health issues from age of 19 (he is 34 now) and for the first 7 years doctors misdiagnosed and treat him with all kind of pills that he doesn't need for bipolar and other mental problems, while the whole time he has Lyme disease, when he finds out that he has Lyme after those 7 years, he already had big damage to his body and develop autoimmune diseases because his Lyme hasn't been diagnosed and treated for years! He is trying to fix his body even now! With his song "Troubles'' you can learn more about a part of his journey. With his work he brings messages to the people and he is trying to make the world a better place!!!🙂

@@MagicianandtheJock to that excellent description we have to add that when he was 17 he lost his best friend to suicide. That has been a subject to him throughout a few songs. He got a call from another friend who hade talked to his best friend, so Ren knew about what was about to happen and ran as fast as he could to the bridge....but got there to late...

A lot of Ren's stuff is recorded live. He has 1 video that took over 150 attempts to get it right. Ren's stuff (especially the old stuff) is done with a pretty small number or people and budget. (he's only had two or three newer ones that were more than a few thousand pounds). Ren's story is inspiring, tragic and ongoing. Misdiagnosis, years of illness, struggle with sanity, finally finding a medical cause and treatment. Hope, success.... relapse. He's struggling right now so if you're a believer he could use your prayers.
