The two fingers as an insult go all the way back to the wars between France and England. The French would cut off the right index and middle finger of English archers who were captured so they could no longer use a bow. The English longbowmen started using it as an insult against the French to show that they still had their fingers.

@@JebroUnity That depends on the facing of the fingers. If the inside is facing out it's a universal peace sign. If the outside is facing out then it's an insult.
