If you have a scroll saw, this is a fun project with endless creative possibilities. Combining three scroll-sawed panels into one shadowbox gives a sense of depth to the scene and an LED strip in the back gives the scene a sunset glow. See the description for my cutting templates and links to the materials I used. Enjoy!

Steve Ramsey Very nice project indeed Steve. The LED lighting works really well too, especially with all of the different colours! I wonder if you can get it to cycle through them slowly?

I am just finishing up a lightbox/shadowbox/whatever this is called that I designed entirely on my own, as a new woodworker....boy, I wish I'd watched this video first. But hey, now that I have seen it, I'm really looking forward to doing the next one!

Going back and looking at some of Steve’s older videos. They are fantastic. I’m building this !
@biglar1557 жыл бұрын
I built it for my wife as a surprise gift. She (and all her friends) LOVE it. I used birch plywood for both the frame and the panels. I was on a budget and couldn't do the expensive LED light set so I went with a $2.99 wally-world LED light set for a Christmas village. Not quite as bright as the more expensive set, but some white paint on the back of the panels helps bounce the light around and nearly makes up for it. (I attached the light string to the panel with hot glue.) Thanks for a great project and a great gift idea!

I made one of these as a card for my wife on our anniversary, using an Aladdin theme, only with paper. I never thought of using wood to make a shadow box. Brilliant!

What a wonderful idea. It opens up so many possibilities! I had a scroll saw just like yours - bought it second hand - no matter what I did or how I adjusted it - I snapped my blades!

I just bought a scroll saw last Friday. This is awesome timing. I bought an old used one that only has pin mount blades but it will do for now.

That's so cute! A good idea to make this box with kids. Scroll saw is relatively safe for that and table saw cuts can be made by myself.

That is a super awesome project. I inherited a scroll saw from my father in law, and have used it a number of times, but a scroll saw is the power tool of a super patient man, so mine collects a lot of dust.

Wow. What an awesome idea. 100 likes from me. What I would change is this. I would allow the "slides" to be removable. Then you could create additional slides and have the kids create a variety of settings by matching those. Probably too much work, but imagine how cool it would be to have a different setting for each season or holidays, like Summer or Halloween.
@dennispoulos60108 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. I would suggest leaving the top box piece unattached so you can slide pieces in and out.

MCKingfisher • the only difference being that you really can't use Gumtree in the UK to find "a Eucalyptus species" cut down for fire wood like I did just last week, unless there is a forest hidden away over there I don't know about. Here we use it to find wood that people just want to get rid of that arborists just leave lying on the ground in people backyard (never referred to as just a Yards, as that's an American term for garden). Funny really finding Gum trees on Gumtree. Refer Wikipedia "List of Eucalyptus species" too too many to list there burn as "Hot as hell" . Yes it's a handy tool when used correctly.
