I just wanted to let you know I purchased one of these Xikar lighters based on your review. After loading it with butane, I couldn't get it to work no matter the setting. After a day of fiddling with it I rewatched your video and your comments about 5:00 spot regarding the tube that lifts up allowing the fluid to come out made me take a look. My tube wasn't lifting up, but with a little jiggle it popped right up. Now it works fine. I really appreciate your thorough review.

All of the "pipe lighters" are garbage. Just get a $2 Bic and a tamping tool.

I have a similar tool on my lighter and you an actually lock it to tamp your tobacco down. Just turn the tool 180 degrees before you get to the point you mentioned and pull it down and it shall lock. I have seen in your video that your tamping tool is the same design as mine, so I am 99% sure that it works like that. Great video, keep it up. Keep puffing :)

This was bought for me sometime ago and now for some reason it takes many strikes to light it. I've taken it to bits as far as I can and cleaned it. Its been correctly purged refilled with Colibri butane and still takes lots of strikes to light. I wonder my replacement flints are rubbish? I sent it back but I'm in the UK.

Nice review, my friend. I appreciate you taking the time to do this. I have been wanting a good pipe lighter, but didn't know which one to go with. I am happy to spend $50 for one that is dependable after spending $35 for one that only lights after spinning the flint wheel 8 times! David

Hey, great review. I got this lighter instead of the Dunhill for now. It's great except for 2 things. The piece where the flame comes out rotates on its own. It doesn't seem to tighten if I rotate it. I think it just spins. I have to keep readjusting it so the flame doesn't shoot backwards towards the lighter cap. Also, when the lighter nears the end of the butane, the flame at least triples in size, which has charred the top of some of my pipes. I haven't had time to contact Xikar.

What Material is the butane tank on the inside made of? I'm Guessing plastic. Usually quality lighter's have one made of copper or brass.
@gaylemitchell58816 жыл бұрын
Doesn't the tapping tool have a Phillips on the end ? Will that adjust the flame.? Wasn't that fuel deliver rubber, or, plastic? That won't last if it is
@cutlerylover12 жыл бұрын
@ryanreardon16 a wooden match gives you the same soft flame as used by a butane lighter like this

Hey is it normal for the fuel line part with the outlet hole to turn so the flame is coming out at a different angle. I just got my pipeline and noticed the flame was not facing the proper direction so I just turned it but it seems a little to easy to turn. Is mine defective or is it ok for the gas outlet to turn from side to side?

Great video. This lighter is a dead on copy of the IM Corona Old Boy lighters. And both are based on the classic Dunhill lighters. I have all three lighters and for the money, the IM Corona lighter is the best value ($100). You get near Dunhill quality (mechanically) not in fit and finish, but at a fraction of the cost. The Xikar is a distant third.

Very interesting, Jeff. I've been looking for a nice lighter that doesn't evaporate like a Zippo. But are there any good cheaper options?

@MooTaters11 жыл бұрын
Hopefully it's better than my colibri. Got the morpheus II before they went under and got new management or whatever happened after that. That thing hates all butane...don't know if it broke after the fuel it came with was finished or if it literally can't use any other company's butane. It kicks out too much butane on low to even maintain a flame(I'd argue dangerous amounts).

anything else than a match will give you the flavour of the butane gas through the cigar/pipe. Especially for cigars, as it takes a long time even with jet butane lighters to fully light, but affects pipes also.
