I remember in the 90s the plans for hovercrafts from vacuum cleaners in the back of magazines. I used to fantasize about building them and imagined them floating like 3 feet off the ground just flying around the wilderness around my cousin's house. Instead of staples and duck tape, caulking (or liquid nails) around the edge (and then either staples or brad nails) seem to do a great job of both sealing and holding the tarp on the edge...I've been a part of 3 or 4 of these types of builds (but never with the battery powered ones, so I gotta try that!) in the past and those turn out the best... Built one of these in high school. Used 2 leaf blowers, however we used one to fill the plastic and a second one to blow air under the plastic to create better hovering. Also added a shop fan and a spoiler to push air downward for push.

You can always salvage a vacuum cleaner moter for the blower. The original Boy's Life plans used #10 can to duct the vaccuum cleaner output to the hovercraft.
