I use a Commodore 1702 15kHz computer monitor hooked to my MiSTer FPGA's VGA port that connects via an RGB cable to the monitors Luma/Chroma ports (basically 8-pin proto s-video). Looks incredible and, being basically a re-skinned JVC-model PVM, it has the side benefit of working perfect with original light-gun peripherals. There is a reason retro gamers call the 1702 the *ultimate* monitor. I'd just skip the light-gun sensor bar stuff and get a 1702 off eBay (well worth it).

I had no idea the Wii Remote could even be used with the MiSTer like this - this is really neat to see! Unfortunate that it's not more accurate, but I can still see this being useful, depending on the circumstances.

Yeah, would love it to be more accurate but it's fun to try it out every once in a while.

I found the mister only uses one of the ends of the sensor bar. I covered the other end. it uses the lights from one end as the CENTRE of the SCREEN. It would be nice to be able to calibrate where the centre of the screen actually is as I cannot stick the sensor in the middle of my LCD/CRT

Nice video, i have been meaning to try using a wiimote as a lightgun on mister for some time, now i know how to do it! About the crosshair accuracy/alignment, i hope they eventually make some sort of calibration function that actually align it right? sounds doable, maybe its just a matter of time until they implement something like that, because this setup looks awesome otherwise!
@LusRetroSource3 жыл бұрын
The current calibration menu does need some improvement.
@dandoyle3 жыл бұрын
Wiimote is okay, but lightguns via SNAC are perfect so if you have a CRT like you do may as well eliminate the accuracy problem and get the original experience. I’d say only go wiimote if you don’t have a CRT. Great video though, I like your style
@LusRetroSource3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I'm eventually going the SNAC route. I had a Wiimote lying around and wanted to try that that out first.

Yeah upside is you get perfect accuracy, downside is you need all the guns for each system ;)

@@LusRetroSource My device can work as an analog joystick. So it works with cores that emulate the lightgun with analog stick. I testes with SNES and Genesis. Works like a charm! Initital project is here: github.com/sonik-br/GunconDuino .I will update the project in the near future. With the current public code it only works on PC.

Super cool man. I have to give this a try. Have a wiimote right here. My sensor bar is buried somewhere, but I seem to recall it having a funny connection into the wii. Any quick tip on powering the sensor bar? I'm guessing I'll have to modify the cable.
@LusRetroSource3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately for an original sensor bar I think your only choice is to plug it into the Wii. I tried looking for adapters but couldn't find any. There are cheap USB sensor bars on amazon for around $10. I'd rather go that route than modify an original bar.
@fellleg3 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I have followed all the steps and I can't get the crosshair to move in any of the cores. Currently running v210711 of the MiSTer OS. My sensor bar is connected to my Wii U for power, and the buttons of my wiimote are recognized (I can shoot, but I can't aim). I have confirmed the wiimote pointer to work on my Wii using the same sensor bar. Help?
@LusRetroSource3 жыл бұрын
Make sure you have the light gun controls set to the correct Joystick. For example on the NES core, in the Periphery options try choosing between Zapper(Joy1) or Zapper(Joy2), like I mention on 3:02.

No you don't. But if you enable the cross hair, then you will need to disable it when you play another game, but the game will still be playable.

When I try doing this, I get an error about bluetooth not found, or something to that effect. I tried to run a script and it said something to the effect of bluetooth not being available. Is there something I need to do to activate Bluetooth on my MISTer or do certain units not have any bluetooth available? I bought mine as a premade unit from MISTer addons if that makes a difference.

Never mind, I figured out I had to use my own Bluetooth adaptor. Unfortunately the one I have doesn't seem to work as far as I can tell.

@lomdar673 жыл бұрын
You just need a step up converter to convert the 5V of the USB port to around 7.22V for the original sensor bar. I build two of them. One for my Mister and one for mame. The original sensor bar works so much better, because it uses 5 LEDs on each side and not only 3 like the cheap USB sensor bars.

can you turn off the crosshair? and if you do, is it even remotely accurate?
@LusRetroSource Жыл бұрын
Yes you can and it's not accurate at all. A crosshair with the a Wiimote is a requirement. If you want to do lightgun gaming on MiSTer with a modern television, I recommend getting a GunCon 3. I have a video about using it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5uyaoiFg79_a9E
